Pool -- a very male dominated sport (in the wake of Cubc and OMGWTF's matchup)

Looks like I killed this thread.... :D

Yobaguuaablabla, no offense, I leave this argument for you, Flex and Peer ;) I am ready for a bet when I find another guaranteed chance to lose to you :p

This thread has started to get real interesting, with pictures from my home :)

Regarding what's written in some of the posts, the language is so difficult. Why use those words that no one can understand? I am using 10 minutes to read one post, because I have to take a look in the dictionary every second word... :D

JoeyA: You will never get hcp from me. I have never played one-pocket, I don't even know the rules. Is it the game where it doesn't matter if I shoot the 8 early in the game?

JoeyA: You should definitely try to forgive Marcus, he has tons of great stories. I once heard a story he told me about a clown in New Orleans which he hustled for 900 $ in one-pocket! Man, I laughed for hours of that story. That guy must be such a clown, he didn't know what hit him...

So, what city do you live in? I don't think you mentioned it? :D:D:

Take up the dictionary problem with Peer. I use littel words that everyone understands and that I know how to spell.

Very funny, Roy! I got your clown, right here. :p

I'm going to keep an eye on you. ;)

This worked for me once. There was a very hot girl playin by herself i went up to her and ask if she wanted to play some she said yes. I ask is she waiting for someone and she said she was waiting for her boyfriend. I said well i'll play til he gets here. He never made it but i did! LOL!

I must ask you this. If America is SO bad, why are you here?

Duh, that's easy to answer -- since I'm white and a male, life is good in a racist xenophobic country (how about that ;^)

Is this why you feel you can postulate about a subject you only have assumptions about and that it would have any resonance with us?

Sadly, I think I know a bit about this matter -- my old ex, who I came with to the States, was subjected to the most xenophobic act imaginable. She has now moved back to Norway. Since this is a private matter involving someone else, I choose to leave it at that.

Yes you should leave it at that. We've all experienced tragedy. Stop blaming Americans and America for your troubles. Ive been in Paris in a cafe where young men were giving the Heil Hitler salute. If I didnt have street smarts that I learned in pool halls I dont know If we would have made it out alive.
Ive experienced many situations like this in foreign countries and yet in the oddest places in America Ive found the most kindest generous people ever. In the border towns of Texas and the coldest parts of the Midwest.
What do you expect when you call us these names when you can look at your own country and find these things. Isnt Prostitution legal in your country? I know the Labor Party tried to change that law.
What happened between OMG and Cubc is a natural conflict that will continue between young men and women. It transcends national borders. Im glad it happened here and in the way it did. Perhaps we will learn from it and learn how to treat each other particularly as competitors in league and tournament play.

To me, it seems like there's someone else who doesn't know when to stop.

You see, when you again accused me for not knowing what I'm talking about, instead of giving you factual data (as I did earlier) I thought I might could be generous enough to give you a glimpse into the private life of my ex to show you that I am indeed very familiar with this topic. Obviously that was a mistake on my side.

As you can see, I have not, so far, criticized you or attacked you personally, but yet you have repeatedly ripped into my persona. And why? Because I made the cardinal sin of expressing my believes that "when I initially saw Cubc going off on OMGWTF, to me it just revived this not-often-talked-about misogynistic and racist mindset which I think is quite prevalent here in the states."

Stop blaming Americans and America for your troubles.
"Blaming Americans and America for my troubles"..?! I don't have any troubles, so there is nothing for me to blame anything on anyone. (Don't you remember that I just confessed being a white male, and hence, had a good life here in America..?)

I also notice how you again project your arguments on me, the same way you did earlier when claiming that I'm just an "outsider". Please don't pretend that you know anything about me, because you don't. However, I can give you a hint about how much an "outsider" I am -- I've lived longer, much longer, here in the States than I've lived in Norway, and I've also lived & worked all over the world (incl. Japan), and I also bet that I've studied sociology and history (including American) to an extent that you would admire, if you only knew.

Isnt Prostitution legal in your country? I know the Labor Party tried to change that law.
Oh yeah, and we all know that the grocery stores in Norway carry heroin and that the polar bears roam freely in the streets of Oslo along with the topless women.

I dont care how intelligent you are but you are an outsider. Speaking from an outsiders point of view. Just like I am speaking about Swedes, Finns, Norwegians, Danes etc.
Trust me, education is a bliss. Try it.

There was once a bar maid who was married but worked at a pool hall named Pickles's sports Bar. She was one of the most attractive barmaids I have ever seen. She was constantly being hit on. She was never interested in any other man other than her husband. She was always telling guys NO.

What was uncanny about this girl was her ability to tell guys NO and not make them feel like they were a loser. Not one guy every thought she was a b***h. Her husband was employed the U.S, Coast Guard and was a quiet man who never showed any jealousy toward the guys trying.

One day, I could no longer stand it and I approached the blonde girl with the sparkling eyes and beautiful smile. I asked her what was her secret and how did she learn to talk to men so that their feelings weren't hurt but that they knew she was already spoken for. She credited her mother with her ability to speak decently to guys who were always hitting on her. Another thing, guys who were told that she already had a man and that she wouldn't be changing her mind, understood that and most always became good friends with her and she never had to worry about the bullies trying to force their affections on her. She always had guy friends around who were happy to play the protector card. I don't even know her name but she had the ability to melt a man's heart just by looking at him. When she told a man NO, they understood it was simply NO and their feelings weren't hurt and they didn't walk away mad. I think she was just a really nice person who worked at treating guys decently when she said NO. The other thing was she really wasn't stuck on herself. She was gorgeous but you knew that she didn't think that was the most important thing in the world for a woman to be.

She didn't stay long in that job. I believe her husband was transferred and one day she was just gone. Pickle's has never been the same. :D

That is because when a person is sincerely nice and genuine AND tactful then they learn how to say no without bruising another person's ego. Instead of coming off as if her space was violated she probably conveyed to the interested men that she was flattered by the attention but unavailable.

So many people these days are just downright rude in their interactions. Manners have taken a real downturn.

It makes me feel OLD at 40 to utter the words that people were more well mannered when I was growing up than now. I don't know that this is true as I was not too into adult interactions when I was a kid and a teenager. But somewhere along the line I learned to to say please and thank you and all that goes with it. And no one could say I had a storybook upbringing.

Let's all face the fact that we are FAR from an enlightened species. We call this the Information Age. Perhaps future sociologists will call it the Personally Confused Age. Why are women approached by men? Because we are genetically engineered to. We are not at a point in our evolution where our brains are bigger than our balls. However as we continue to evolve we are slowly rewiring ourselves so that men and women can see each other as equals intellectually and as such can cooperate physically to share the burden using the best qualities of each.

Right now we suffer from information overload. Since information is instantly available it seems as if "the answer" is a few clicks away. However, as some know, the answer to personal satisfaction and social acceptance is found within.

OMGWTF is a social commentator of the highest order in my opinion. Her wit is sharp and her observations are very keen. While she may lack the grace of your bartending goddess when it comes to dealing with space invaders she more than makes up for it in clarifying detail when she gives us her perspective.

Life is a very male dominated sport. Until we finally get over the hunter/gatherer part of our biology and psychology it won't change. However, with each successive generation there will be less and less men who feel the urge to conquer in order to feel whole. At some point there will be no discussion of equality. But that point is probably a hundred thousand years away.

Until then, let me show you how to shoot that shot honey ;-)

Two days ago I was walking into a liquor store, and this older gentleman walks out at the same time and says to me "Ooooohhhh, baby, you look gooooooood!"

I was 50% creeped out and 50% flattered. Most women are much more creeped out by that kind of thing.

The point is that he obviously wasn't thinking I was going to fall in love with him. He knew the effect what he said was going to have. Some guys act that way hoping for the opposite effect, and then get upset when it doesn't work out that way.

Makes me wonder... if 90% (I made that up) of what guys do (thoughts, actions) are related to women... then isn't this a Female dominated world?:p ;)

Oooooooohhhhh, baby !
When I read your posts, I touch myself.

( thumping my head IS touching myself, isn't it ? percentages have always confused 65% of the time and befuddled me the other 50% )

Oh so I am the one who is uneducated now? OK Maybe it is time I stopped. Its this kind of chauvinism that comes from overseas that is hilarious. And how can you answer chauvinism. When Euro's think they are more educated then us Americans and yet they come here to enjoy all the resources we have it is dumbfounding to say the least.
You are the one who says "Norwegian in California." I am an American in America. Unlike you I think the other side of the coin. I think we are in the forefront of the fight against racism and sexism.
You didnt share anything about your private life you just alluded to it. I cant read your mind but I can tell you I have experienced a lot myself. Dont underestimate me.
All in all I would say that this is a great country. That our mindset is more based in freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, collectively. You smear us when you say we have a society where racism and misogny is prevalent. And maybe at times we deserve it. But I want you to see the other side of us too.
As for OMG and Cubc I hope that what we see is a situation of the American spirit of where the Underdog can overcome odds. Where hard work and determination overcomes the imbalance of race and sex.
But enough of this. I dont meant to demean anyones mother country. It would be like comparing Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin to ABBA.

Okay, so you believe that the U.S. is a nation which is "in the forefront of the fight against racism and sexism" -- a nation...

...where women make 24 cents less per dollar than men

...where women have no paid maternity leave

...where women hold only 15% of Congress

...where women didn't get the right to vote until 1920

...where a woman, or a colored person, has yet to be elected President (while even Muslim Pakistan had a female leader already 20 years ago)

...where interracial marriages were outlawed up until 1967 (similar laws were enforced in Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945)

...where the black incarceration rate is 8 times higher compared to whites

...and where [drumroll please] women often get mistreated while playing pool.

The U.S. might be a cool place to live and in the forefront of many things, but if you believe it's a nation that's "in the forefront of the fight against racism and sexism" then your criteria is certainly different from mine.

But since I'm a white male, why do I care..?!

The trick I want to see is the average family in the USA having 2.4 kids, how do you split a kid into tenths?

I think a lot of this has to do with manners. For whatever reason there is a large portion of society that simply do not possess much in the way of being polite. Not that they are deliberately and maliciously rude but that they do not even consider the remarks they make to be inappropriate.

I don't tell women that I don't know well that they are pretty. Even ones I do know well I refrain from making any comments regarding their appearance. Basically, if I wouldn't tell them that they are "ugly" then I don't feel like I should tell them that they are "pretty". But a lot of folks these days just spurt out all kinds of things without thinking about it.

A female dominated world?

Sure is.

Jenny and Johnny were playing and Johnny held up his GI Joe doll and said "I have one of these". Jenny held up her Barbie and said, "well I have one of these". So Johnny countered with his GI Joe Jeep and said, "I have one of these", Jenny held up her Barbie Corvette and said, "I have one of these", so Johnny drops his pants and says, "I got one of these!"

Jenny lifts her skirt and says, "I got one of these and my mommy says with one of these I can have as many of those as I want."
