Pool -- a very male dominated sport (in the wake of Cubc and OMGWTF's matchup)

The U.S. might be a cool place to live and in the forefront of many things, but if you believe it's a nation that's "in the forefront of the fight against racism and sexism" then your criteria is certainly different from mine.

But since I'm a white male, why do I care..?!

As I said earlier, education is a bliss. Perhaps you should try it..?

Are you trying to give "white male (s)" a bad name. Why do you insist of portraying the bad stereotype. I keep telling you that there are good things and bad things of every country. It seems to go into one ear and out the other. I guess thats what "education" does fo one sometimes. It makes you think that you are smarter than everyone else.
I am a male of color. I have worked with many community organizations. Black, Brown, Yellow, Red, and White. We have fought the good fight for Justice in our country. I have been in marches 250,000 strong to end poverty and racism and sexism in this country. Oh we have problems in this country but Im talking about the goodness of the PEOPLE. Of all colors. We saw that in the OMG vs CubC even as most supported OMG. Its the people of this county that I talk about. And you can never take that away from us. And its in our history books. The fight for a bette way of life. You should try reading about it if you are going to make idiotic selfish proclamations. So you can read statistics and add 1 and 1 equals 2. So what.
The funny thing is that the people of Europe didnt mind it when our soldiers liberated their country of Fascism and Nazism. Oh they even begged us to come over there to help and now people like you show disdain. I feel sorry for you. You must hate yourself for living here. Being untrue to your own beliefs. Living in such a horrible place and yet having high standards. How do you live with yourself everyday.
See thats the thing about education. It doesnt work unless you have the integrity to go along with it.

There was once a bar maid who was married but worked at a pool hall named Pickles's sports Bar. She was one of the most attractive barmaids I have ever seen. She was constantly being hit on. She was never interested in any other man other than her husband. She was always telling guys NO.

What was uncanny about this girl was her ability to tell guys NO and not make them feel like they were a loser. Not one guy every thought she was a b***h. Her husband was employed the U.S, Coast Guard and was a quiet man who never showed any jealousy toward the guys trying.

One day, I could no longer stand it and I approached the blonde girl with the sparkling eyes and beautiful smile. I asked her what was her secret and how did she learn to talk to men so that their feelings weren't hurt but that they knew she was already spoken for. She credited her mother with her ability to speak decently to guys who were always hitting on her. Another thing, guys who were told that she already had a man and that she wouldn't be changing her mind, understood that and most always became good friends with her and she never had to worry about the bullies trying to force their affections on her. She always had guy friends around who were happy to play the protector card. I don't even know her name but she had the ability to melt a man's heart just by looking at him. When she told a man NO, they understood it was simply NO and their feelings weren't hurt and they didn't walk away mad. I think she was just a really nice person who worked at treating guys decently when she said NO. The other thing was she really wasn't stuck on herself. She was gorgeous but you knew that she didn't think that was the most important thing in the world for a woman to be.

She didn't stay long in that job. I believe her husband was transferred and one day she was just gone. Pickle's has never been the same. :D

The barmaid is not the issue here, dude. I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand, dude. Across this line, you DO NOT... Also, dude, barmaid is not the preferred nomenclature. Bartender, please.

...where women make 24 cents less per dollar than men
It is generally true that women doing the same job as men now make the same amount. Wasn't always the case, but we've made progress. It is not as easy to bring the male/female balance on high paying jobs in order. Amongst younger people that is happening already because women have have changed the typical college major they take.

...where women have no paid maternity leave
Most US companies provide paid maturnity leave. I don't believe it is something the government should ever supply.

...where women hold only 15% of Congress
Again this takes longer, because it follows career path options choosen. Or maybe women are inherently more honest than men and can't stand the thought of being a politician.

...where women didn't get the right to vote until 1920
Not behind most of the world.

...where a woman, or a colored person, has yet to be elected President (while even Muslim Pakistan had a female leader already 20 years ago)
When one who is an acceptable candidate is presented, they will be elected.

...where interracial marriages were outlawed up until 1967 (similar laws were enforced in Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945)
In some backward communities, certainly not a national trend.

...where the black incarceration rate is 8 times higher compared to whites
They are incarcerated because they are criminals. Now the reason they are criminals reflects 400 years of history, not overcome in a decade or 2. What, are criminals supposed to be allowed to roam the streets because they are as much a victim of society as society is of them?

...and where [drumroll please] women often get mistreated while playing pool.
Yeah. So you condemn a country?

The U.S. might be a cool place to live and in the forefront of many things, but if you believe it's a nation that's "in the forefront of the fight against racism and sexism" then your criteria is certainly different from mine.
We are in the forefront of these issues. You grew up in a relatively sheltered environment. I grew up in a small town and we never saw a racial incident, everyone was cool about such things. Then I went in the service and there was a race riot on my base. It didn't make me a racist, but it made me understand how racism develops from fear. You've lived in a much easier environment to be liberal in, try to understand where we come from. There is an old saying "Don't criticize a man (or nation) until you've walked a mile in their shoes". This country is not perfect, but it has made enourmous strides.

But since I'm a white male, why do I care..?!

As I said earlier, education is a bliss. Perhaps you should try it..?

I don't say our country is perfect, but we've done a remarkable job of assimilating people from all over the world. You can't throw that many people together without strife. If we are ill disposed towards treating women properly, it is a legacy of what for most of us is a European heritage. Our attitudes and behaviors stemmed from England, Ireland, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and yes even Scandinavia. We are a reflection of Europe. For 1/4 of my ancestory I can claim forebearers back to the pilgrims, the other 3 gparents were European born. Most of us whites are Europeans 1 or 2 generations removed, our attitudes and behaviors came from someplace.

I supported you when you were being attacked for not having been military, but I think you're off base here.

But then again we were probably the scum of Europe, eh?

Here are the statistics on what percentage per dollar behind men women are in earnings, in different countries.

Funny. Seems to be 7 European countries ahead of the U.S. on this list. And European countries make up the overwhelming majority of the countries where women make less.

#1 Korea, South: 41
#2 Japan: 39
#3 Portugal: 30
#4 Spain: 29
#5 Canada: 28
#6 Germany: 25
#7 Switzerland: 25
#8 Austria: 25
#9 Ireland: 25
#10 United Kingdom: 24
#11 United States: 23
#12 Netherlands: 22
#13 Czech Republic: 22
#14 Finland: 21
#15 New Zealand: 19
#16 Italy: 17
#17 Sweden: 17
#18 Poland: 17
#19 Luxembourg: 16
#20 Hungary: 16
#21 Australia: 14
#22 France: 13
#23 Denmark: 12
#24 Belgium: 11

And as far as maternity leave, guess what? That costs. In Norway, you are happy to steal money from productive members of society to give it to those who are not working. Good for you. In America, we see what happens when you do that.

People sit on their fat arses and won't work unless forced to.

Like in much of Europe. I LIVED in Germany for three years, and visited Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Italy, etc.. I saw that people just don't work as hard there. And that's good, right?

Well, that depends. If you are happy with not working as much, therefore not EARNING as much, then fine. But when our business leaders visit Europe and get eggs thrown at them because the populace has been brainwashed into thinking less work (and therefore less production) is a good thing. Well, let's just say European work ethic is not quite up to par with Americans.

Well.. I'll leave it at this. Since you seem to be sooooooo concerned with the plight of the working woman, then please go learn Hangul, Portuguese, and Japanese, and go rail against S. Korea, Portugal, and Japan for their mistreatment of their women.

Besides, the list above shows you that women making less is FAR from a phenomenon only in America. Seems to be a human trait.

Perhaps it is the fact that business is a competitive exercise, and because of more testosterone, men are naturally more competitive, therefore they succeed more often in business?

Yes, women CAN BE as competitive as men, but are generally not so.

What Peer is obviously forgetting is that Women are inferior to men in every possible way except for child birth and cleaning. They were created from just one of our ribs afterall... :D

Why should it matter. Youre a "white male" right? Thats all youve established.

My last post on this subject.

We got Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin. You got ABBA.
I know thats sophomoric but hey youre the "white male".
Go 'head feel superior.

WOW! Well said....if that Peer guy argues with this....he totally loses any sympathy/support I may have for him. I don't agree at all with Peer, I just was feeling a little bad for him.......but if he can't humble himself and appreciate the truth in this....he's not even worth the time.

I don't dispute that, not at all. However, it's off topic -- and as the OP of this thread I try not to comment on unrelated issues, nor to people's personal projections on me.

I sincerely ask if you could quote where I'm "off base" -- I happen to be a person who want to improve, get as much knowledge about myself and the world as possible. And being this way, I just sat down and re-read all my posts (total 17) in this thread, to find where I might be "off base"... but the only thing I could come up with (that I still can't comprehend being unfounded) was my first post: "when I initially saw Cubc going off on OMGWTF, to me it just revived this not-often-talked-about misogynistic and racist mindset which I think is quite prevalent here in the states" -- where, as you can see, I clearly said "to me" and "I think", and the other one was post #156: "The U.S. might be a cool place to live and in the forefront of many things, but if you believe it's a nation that's "in the forefront of the fight against racism and sexism" then your criteria is certainly different from mine."

Besides from some sarcastic ping-pong with my fellow countryman Roy (about how we norwegians are fukked up), as far as I can see, the rest of my posts were about factual data. But again, it would be helpful if you could point me to which post (or statement) made you think I'm "off base" -- I bet anyone who has met me in person would know that I have no pride, and hence, I would happily amend any "off base" statements and even try to learn from them.

Frankly, it's quite difficult to feel anything but superior reading your puerile and inept statements, one after the other -- the last one so silly that it's actually funny; it's as if I, a norwegian, would claim Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin were Canadian.

Apparently some people think education is too difficult, so they try ignorance instead.

You said it. 10 years ago. I am pretty sure we all have changed a little from what we were 10 years ago...

Read Niels website, and he writes about how he used to be on the road gambling, and how he now has changed to become more a tournament player.
