Pool Ball Collecting.

I've never heard of the four-player game before. I'm guessing it was a game created to sell balls, like the original set for 8-ball, which were reds and yellows. Maybe four-player cut throat? Decide groups before you start. Rack them in a 4x4 diamond with no two colors the same in any four-ball "row". That pattern will take a while if the beer has been flowing. Here's an example:

After further thought....I believe this game would also be intriguing played with 4 1-balls, 4 2-balls, 4 3-balls, 4 4-balls....racked like Bob demonstrated. One cue ball. Balls that sink off the break, get spotted.

Not sure where to go from there....because a really good player would just hop up and run 12 and out....So maybe there would have to be a limit on number of run you would max out at.

I purchased the balls from a private seller in Germany, part of a bundle of three beautiful Raschig sets. The whole consignment cost me a rather eye-watering $1111.00.

These three outstanding examples were probably treasured by a careful owner for many years, forming the crowning glory of a precious collection in all likelihood. Therefore, even though I truly consider myself blessed to be their new curator, the euphoria is tinged with a little sadness that such magnificent pool balls were listed on a relatively obscure website with nary a mention of historical provenance. That just ain’t right and I don’t want it to happen to my own collection.

One other point of interest. There is a minuscule line of text and numbers just underneath the blank white box on the back cover. It reads R0683. Possibly relating to a date would be my best guess, but who knows?

Best wishes,
RC.

Your finding this made it all worthwhile by sending the idea out into the world so maybe the game would be enjoyed by others. Super thanks for sharing and your passion for pool.

Good evening, everyone. :)

Here is a link to nine pages of patent documents related to the Card Ball Pokers I posted up on the thread yesterday.

https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/fb/1d/a6/74ccdca96f61c9/US4840376.pdf

It makes for quite an entertaining read whenever you have a spare half hour. I would be extremely interested to see any magazine articles or advertisements of the time (1989) detailing the company’s products.

Best wishes,

RC.

Raschig Nine Ball Turniersatz. Insert Card 11.

Hello again. :)

Here is the latest update of my insert card project. If you would like to learn a little more about the process followed in photographing the balls shown in the rectangular picture frame, or perhaps how I drew the computer generated image underneath, please refer back to my original post number 1133.

Best wishes,

RC.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Whilst on the subject of Raschigs, I noticed this spots and stripes set has just been listed on eBay. Not by me I hasten to add. :)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Raschig-Po...7-a91b-405e-9523-cbf8aee0eff6&redirect=mobile

They are advertised as used, but look to be in reasonable condition (even though the photograph is rather blurry) and I’m confident they’re genuine. Just thought I’d post up the link as a few folks on here have expressed an interest in picking up a playing set for a decent price.

Best wishes,

RC.

Raschig One Pocket. Insert Card 12.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. :)

Here is a screenshot of the latest insert card, part of an ongoing project to record the historical provenance of my treasured billiard ball collection. If anyone is interested to learn a little more about the camera technique employed to counter lens distortion, or how I drew the computer generated image at the base of the card, please refer back to the original post (number 1133).

I'm slowly uploading pictures of my entire collection to AZB's private album section. If you would like to view this gallery as it grows, just click on the link below.

I travel all over the country. There are as many places that think they are the epicenter of craft brewing as ther are diners that claim to have the world's best coffee. San Diego, Portland, Ann Arbor(MI), Chicago, St Louis, Denver, Minneapolis all come to mind. Craft brewing is huge in most any large city and they all have great beers.

There are also a lot of great "production" beers out there that started out small...much like the trajectory Titos Vodka has taken.

I love to try the various craft breweries, as do many of my co-workers. While there are many good ones, the vast majority of craft brews are nothing more than OK. Sadly, rather than try to make a better beer to distinguish themselves, they try and stand out by making a vast array of, shall I say, weird ass beers? I think we have reached an equilibrium point in Colorado with the number of craft breweries opening is now equal to the number going under. In the end, everyone has the chance these days to find what suits their individual taste buds, so that, at least, is a good thing. Back to the balls...

Hello, XPLSV. :)

How do you like playing with that gorgeous set of Raschig R9s? Any marked differences noticed from your usual balls? A little more lively, perhaps?

Best wishes,
RC.

Wow, what a find. I'm into Cues & "FINDS" are tough to come upon... but this ball set is "A TRUE GIFT" that probably wasn't a gift at all.

Hello, Ceebee. :)

Many thanks for looking in to the thread, sir. It is always much appreciated to hear your views.

Best wishes,

RC.

Tinypic, the image-hosting site used to upload my images have packed up. As a consequence, all my earlier photographs on this thread have disappeared today... including the index on page 1 which took an absolute age to compile. :(

What a damned nuisance. I’ll endeavour to replace all the lost pictures by using the edit function, but it will take a while.

Maybe you should set up a cheap website, that buys & sells Pool Balls and or replacement balls..

A website is in the pipeline, sir. :)

Not so much for buying and selling pool balls (although not to be ruled out) but rather just showing off our respective collections. An online Billiard Ball Museum. :)

If you have any interest in sharing the costs, thepavlos is working on a website for our collections of business cards and cue brochures. Get in touch with him and see what it would be to piggyback.
