Pool Commentators

OK, Simple question.

Who are your favorite pool commentators and why?

I like DannyDeliberto when he cracks on Gradys vocabulary..
I also liked listening to Buddy.
I'll probably fet told to go away, but I would like to hear Kieth.

I really enjoy Grady Mathews, Danny DiLiberto and Billy Incardona as hosts. ***(Pat, please consider re-hiring Grady) As special guests, I love how Nick Varner, Buddy Hall and Howard Vickery add knowledge, insight and humor. Speaking of humor, nobody is funnier and wittier than Freddie Bentivegna! Wow is he good! Mark Wilson speaks with eloquency and knowledge. I also miss Johhny Ervolino, our beloved "Velvet Foghorn"....
For "least favorite", Tony Annigoni (Well William...", "OK...uha...uha...Ok"), Don Polo and David Maddox. But NOBODY is as bad as Mitch Laurence....

On our AZBilliard Forum, my favorite posters are Freddie Bentivegna, Grady Mathews and SJM (who is always so gracious and well reasoned)

I'm partial to Billy Incardona and Nick Varner. I about died laughing at the couple that Bert Kinister did. Man he says some things that get you thinking. They are so funny.

I can't think of any of the pool commentators that I don't like (compared to football and most of ESPN where I don't care for hardly any of 'em), but I'm probably partial to Grady and Billy cause I've seen so many AccuStat videos and they really diagnose 1P well. Only one irritation: to Jim Wyche - it's called "break" here, not "break-off", but IMO they all do a really good job of pool commentary.

I like Danny the most. I think Mataya is a hoot and I'd love to see him and Mitch Laurence together. It might be cool to have Mitch (voice of reason and decorum), Danny (knowledge and good at buffering Mataya) and Jimmy Mataya together. Wouldn't that be a hoot? I'd like to see how good Mitch would be at moderating Mataya. I think Mitch has talent but he needs to be tested and Mataya would definitely test him. I like all the others mentioned above as well.

I really like Jerry Forsyth and Jim Wych. I think they are a good combination. I also like Miike Sigel but he says the phrase "Anything is possible" too much and it kinda gets on my nerves.

Might be a little touchy having Mitch and Jimmy together, seeing as how Mitch has Ewa. She used to be Jimmy's wife.

Oh, I'll tell you one I didn't like, Kevin Trudeau. I watched that IPT match between Lori John and Mike Sigel and Kevin kept walking all over Kim Davenport's commentary. Kim was supposed to do the color and Kevin kept injecting his own thoughts and then asked Kim to verify that what he was saying was right or not. He should have just kept his big mouth shut when it pertained to what shots were going to be shot or why a shot was performed a certain way. I'd suggest that he stay out of the booth so the people he hired could do their jobs.

I definitely see your point but it would still be entertaining I'm sure. Putting Ewa aside for a moment, the styles of a Jimmy and a Mitch would be interesting to listen to. Jimmy is a runaway train that has a lot of knowledge and Mitch is the voice of reason. Could be a great combination.

As someone who is still learning a lot about the game, Grady seems to do a lot of hand holding through most of the racks. A guy like me can learn a lot by watching and listening.

*I am sitting in a Starbucks*

I couldn't stop laughing inside at the Mitch and Jimmy post. But then you wrote what I was thinking and I lost it all together. I got a few funny looks.

i think a guy that would be great at the job would be Bert Kinister.that would be one awesome commentator .

Danny DiLiberto and Mark Wilson. DiLiberto for the colorful commentary and stories and Wilson for his astute technical knowledge, particularly his focus on mechanics.

Have you heard Efren on one of the Reno tapes with Incardona. Efren was brilliant and showed a deep knowledge of rack runnng.

I know who i dont like and that is Sid Widdel, he does not have a clue and says the most ridiculous things, i once was told a story that Barry Hearn who owns matchroom once told him that if you ever learn anything about this game then your sacked.
He is crap.
Regards
SJ

I'm a fan of Allen Hopkins. While I don't think they're terrible, Mitche and Ewa Lawrence are starting to get played out. It's time to get some new blood in the booth.

Cardone (Billy I) is my personal favorite. He is very insightful and often prophetic in his match commentary. He's even occasionally funny, though not necessarily on purpose. Plus his voice is strangely soothing, unlike Mitch or Mataya (yikes!) or Mark Wilson.

Danny D. would be my next favorite, when he's not repeating jokes/anecdotes that is. He has a boatload of pool (and life) knowledge and it is evident hearing him.

p.s. Am I the only one who thinks Danny looks like the cartoon from AI: Artificial Inteligence (Spielberg).
