Pool Cue? Pool Stick?

This has probably been covered here before, but, what do you think about calling pool cues "pool sticks"? Are the terms ever synonymous? To me it seems ok to call the cheap ones on the wall at a bar a stick - but at the same time it seems almost blasphemous to use the term "stick" when describing a fine custom cue.

I gotta keep tellin you'se guys. A Stick is a boomerang that doesn't work.

I absolutely hate it when someone asks me, "Do you want to shoot some Stick".

What the heck is Shooting some stick supposed to mean.

Anybody asks me if I "want to shoot some stick"?
The answer is HELL YES!

'Cause he's a trick, with a stick:grin:

"Pool cue", "cue", "cue stick" and "stick" are all commonly used. For some reason "pool stick" isn't. Go figure.

sometimes it's my gorgeous and wonderful cue

Sometimes it's a worthless piece of kindling

Most cue collectors or just players that understand nice cues, refer to them as pool cues.
Some people think it makes them sound hip to call it a stick "I gotta go get my stick man".
It makes me cringe a little, but I hear it all the time.

Sometimes "cue" is ambiguous because it might refer to either the stick or the ball. "Stick" is unambiguous.

Is it "pop"? Maybe "soda"? Or..."soda pop?"

All the same thing. Hey, if you bought it, call it what you like.

I'll call it both a "cue" or a "stick". It's always "pool cue" though, never "pool stick". I will also call my whole case my "sticks". I think that carries over from golf.
