Pool games that didn't catch on

The bobbleball site is still up. www.bobbleball.com

The "non-cue" version is aimed at kids, people who aren't good at pool but enjoy it and seniors. The "cue version" of tagball is a lot harder. Think snooker combined with 9 ball and 8 ball. Basicly, you have to "tag" the bobbleball but one or more rails kicking it, then shooting your shot. Yes, you have to tag it after every shot. It's harder than you think. I happened to be a rep for them and it is a fun little game for families to play.

If you can't find one Straight Pool, you can have mine.

It certainly won't be getting used any time soon. No pool halls left in my little Burg.

Send me a bag of Lays and a Bud King Can at a later date.

This forum has a lot of knowledgable people, therefore I'd like to ask the question here:Do you know any "forgotten" pool games, I'm especially interested in games that require specialized euipment (ball sets etc)? I just find it appropriate now that Bonus ball is on its last legs, to remember all those unheralded games of the past. This could be a great field for collectors I think. It would be great if you could also supply pictures and a bit of background.

... Back Pocket 9-Ball.... nice for rotation and 1 pkt fans!..

7 ball for sure. It was played on TV and looked like it may catch on but never did.

Yes the first I thought of as well. The game was thought up by Charlie Ursitti I believe.

They used to play a lot of Hurricane 8 round these parts ( 4 solids, 4 stripes, racked in a diamond with 8 in the center with BIH like 9 ball ) haven't seen anyone play it in a very long time.
Keno, we used to play that everyday almost usually for hours on end. SO MUCH FUN! We never used cues though, we rolled the balls by hand to the head rail back to the board on the foot. Not sure if any rooms round here even have a board, haven't seen it played since Jack & Jills shut down.

Ty.
Hurricane 8 sounds like a fast paced game! Where there any other differences, or was it exactly like in regular 8 ball apart from the ballcount?

Straight99 - Hurricane is fast paced, kinda a mix of 8 & 9 ball. Only played as a gambling game, but then again most of us never got on the table unless it was for the chez most of the time. Rules - you shoot whatever u would break in; if some of each then choice. All fouls would be BIH anywhere on table just like 9 ball. Only ball that had to be called and go clean was the 8. Only other rule u must hit ur ball first.

Just remembered another game I heard of. My dad told me they played it back in the 50's & 60's. It was called slam pool. Whatever game you would be playing u were not allowed to stroke - just had to step to table and shoot. And every shot had to be hit hard. Kinda fun, you should give it a try sometime.
