I have noticed recently that studying pool and understanding it on every level has
helped me out in almost every aspect of life. I believe that this is because pool is
almost a meditation for me. You have to stay grounded, centered, focused, and relaxed ect ect. I have especially noticed that I am better at other sports now. Has anyone else noticed this after you started taking pool seriously?

Yes! While studying pool, the most valuable thing I learned is HOW to study and train to be good at ANYTHING. I can apply the same principles and methods to doing everything in life more proficiently and with better focus.

Pool is not helping my marriage...

I always tell people i have two wives, one has more holes than the other :):):) until i started playing one pocket :(

When i was at college my teacher said to me once, after he notices that i am missing his class and flunking an exam, look Naji, pool tables will never get old, they will always be here, even after you die, but your chance to learn and study does not last for ever, use it before you loose it; quit pool and focus on school; i did , thank God, then i started working, after a year or so, i heard the same from my boss, then after marriage i heard the advise again from wife, also after my sons are born; also, i am hearing it with my sons at college; when the fff$$$%%%% am i going to have pool for myself for God's sake!!! i guess i have to keep filling all holes!!

I have to agree. When I came back to pool I began writing notes on it and trying new things in aiming and in banking. I love banks. Pool became..."Me Time"...and I tend to want to take everything in life....just a little at a time. I like to take things apart in hopes to be able to explain them to myself and in so doing began doing everything that way and found that is a good way to conquer many, many things. Nice Post.

I imagine this is why some of the greatest sports psychology books for pool were written with tennis and archery as the topic. Lots of sports psychology ideas cross over to other sports and/or parts of our lives. Good post OP.

I found in my short time in nursing (12 years) that a pool table in a rehab center, hospital, or a assisted living faculty was not only good for the boosting of the patients mental status, but also his/her physical rehab as well. I had an 8’ table put in a assisted living on my last job as charge nurse. In just weeks the dozen or so men and two women that played it everyday were more alert, friendly and more mentally sound and a lot more social. I guess it gave them a reason to get up and get dressed every morning. Residents that use to sit around all day were up for breakfast and then rushing for the pool table.

As far as physical, their gates were better in a short while, with more pep in their step. It’s a shame that ad space cost so much in AARP and publications like them for the table companies to buy ad space. There should be at least one table in each rehab center and assisted living, and at least 6 in each V A Hospital. Johnnyt

For me, the learning, planning, preparing, executing and adaption to feedback that is so blatantly prevalent in pool can be quite useful when applied to other facets of life.

I can tell which players approach the game like Ty, and have more respect for them. Whether they make it to the final round or not, I respect the player, not the skill. There is at least one pro you can think of that many of you do not respect, inversely to his ability.

one thing it taught me is that you have to consistently play higher levels of competition in order to see better results, whereas in other sports you duck your competition until you are ready to best them.

Thanks for all the great feed back everyone!
I have noticed that when I play better players than myself it forces me to play better and focus more as well. It is a little odd how that is backwards in pool.
