What is you personal definition of a Pool Hustler, or Shark. I ask the Question as I just start the RE READ of Willie Game, Mosconi Autobiography.

Think will got it right in the book.

Hustlers

Two different people IMO. Although non shooters will try to complement you by calling you a hustler, it's really a derogatory term which means a player who plays below his level to entice others to gamble. Wrong on many levels. Shark to me just means an excellent player. I never hustled anyone. They knew what they walked into pretty quick. People appreciate great players, even stupid drunks. Hustle that drunkard and your asking for trouble! Hey coco man, I got your friend thing way back and accepted it I think. Don't quite understand the whole friend thing cause I am new. Have a great day!!

I would think it would be how far an individual would go to hustle . If he is just disguising his game i don't see how that would be different than a poker player using deception to disguise his had .

A defense disguising their coverage , a pitcher throwing a curve ball instead of a fastball every time etc . If your going to gamble you should expect to have someone play safe or what ever means there is to win according to the rules you've agreed too.

Actually sharking would indicate a shark , and sharking is worse than hustling because your using a distraction to cover a short coming in your game

When i was in junior high kids got in a fight , it was serious , and one kid kicked the other in the chest and he went down , he jumped on top and started hammering the other kid.

The other kid bit him and wouldn't let up until he got off . The kid hammering was bad mouthing the biter calling him a sissy and a cheat for biting . Guess he thought nothing of kicking .

Shark sharking

Two different animals. Depends who uses the language. A non player thinks he is complementing you by calling you a shark. Nowadays players complement you by saying (he is a player). Shark is kind of old hat. Sharking is just wrong in every way! You are trying to bother people. You are an idiot, no matter what level you are. All sharks(skilled players) are not sharking, of course some might. Now league play is really casual and some people bother me by being super friendly through the match with no real intention to be sharking you. I can live with that. The higher level you play the more proper most folks act. That's the way it should be.

hustlin' . . . .?

It's kinda like fishing - you gotta throw out some bait if you expect to get any bites . . . . . . .;)

Hustling is good for business, but Sharking is bad.

Hustling for me is like the art of war, you use disguise to mislead your potential opponent into thinking that they can beat you, and you get rewarded in the end. Sharking on the other hand is bad no matter how you cut it.
But I do have one rule when I hustle. Never hustle below average players and drunks.
And the hustler do get hustled sometimes, but I think that's a very positive thing, so I can find out why I lost and improve my game.

A "hustler" is someone who tricks the mark--either by disguising his true speed until bets are increased, or who uses other trickery such as third parties to complete the con...some cases it's an out and out con up to and including intimidation from others to get the mark to increase or pay up on a bet that was unclear as the match progressed.

A "shark" is just a straight up strong player who "eats everything in the pool"...the term "sharking" is really a misnomer, since that's just bad sportsmanship intended to throw an opponent's game off, such as coughing, making noise, shifting around in line of sight of shooter, getting up before the last shot is pulled, woofing between shots, etc. "Sharking" has nothing to do with being a "shark".

Hustlers are often sharks, but not all sharks are hustlers...

To me, a hustler is a con-man who knows he's good but chooses to disguise his skill for personal gain.

Meanwhile, I know what to shark someone means, though I wouldn't call someone who distracts opponents while shooting as a pool shark, so a pool shark is a person who's really good (so is hustler if you use it jokingly).

A hustler is someone who works hard trying to make a dollar.

A shark is either that jaws character or what happens to me when I am beating my opponent.

Let's try this, jack hynes was a Hustler. Chris Bartrum is a player!

That is pretty much what Willie Mosconi said in his book, and that earn you GEENIE!

I told the "shark" where to go yesterday

Yesterday while playing at a local bar league tournament I had the displeasure of running into a wanna be shark. While running out a game of 8 ball where you call ball and pocket.....our league rules state that if a foul is commited while playing you must call the foul before the next shot takes place..........well......while calling the 8 in the corner he shouts foul!!
And I said.....what? where? I repeated the previous call with many on the crowd saying I had called, but I guess the foul may have been 3 shots before while using the rake. Just that he did not noticed.
I know that I did not notice the foul if it did happen like his friends told him, but even if that was true he was being ignorant and rude waiting for me to aim at the 8 and shout when I was about to release cue ball.
Mi view is that the opposite player must call the foul when it happens and not delay or you forfeit the call.
Any oppinions on this, was it right of me or just wrong
Ps. By the way I won the tournament but this happen when I was playing for 4th
I told him that he was sharking at me and after a recall of the 8 ball in the corner pocket I ask him if he heard the call, then pocket the 8
Just a one brush with a wanna be shark, he din't know that they tried that before......
The tournament director admonished the guy for the tactics
Have a nice one
