Pool In Zurich

Thanks

You don't have to be sorry, thank you for sharing your pics.

Weren't you the one who recommended Ist Billard to me about 3 years ago?

If so, what part of Switzerland are you in?

I'm there once or twice a year, and I rent a car and drive all over.

Yes, that is me. I'll PM you later, I have to move now.

Prices are 24 Swiss Francs (about $27) per hour for pool and 27 Swiss Francs ($30+) per hour for snooker.

Zurich is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so this is typical.

if the USD$ didnt suck so bad it wouldnt be so expensive, as you know. And its only gonna get worse.

for that price, they should have ginacues for house cue's

holy cats, thank god i live in a city where you can still play for 9 bucks an hour. I couldn't imagine having to pay 27/hr for pool time. i most definitely would be bringing out the shot clock, and no one pocket games either.

Well you pay more here but people also earn A LOT more here. You can work at McDonalds in an entry level position as a teenager and make 18CHF7hr which is about $20USD.

They also have private clubs here where you pay a monthly membership fee and get a key to the place so you can play anytime you want so after 4 or 5 hours the membership pays for itself. The one we play at is only 15-20 members and it's in a rented office space so it's nice. They have a lounge area, 4 gold crown tables that are kept up nicely and a kitchen/bar area.

They stream their Friday night tournaments so if anyone is bored during the middle of your work day today check it out at http://www.bczw.ch/on_air.html First match starts at 12:30pm Central standard time. I believe it's straight pool tonight though so I'm not sure how exciting it will be.

It's also the second most expensive country in the world in which to live (behind Denmark). Thus, real estate prices are very high. It's a small country and not much room to grow, plus it's a great place to live, and the crime rate is one of the the lowest in the world !! And the place has got to be one of the cleanest countries anywhere. So, I'm assuming the price of admission keeps out some of the riff raff, not to mention that everyone is armed to the teeth :)

That is not true. We are really far from the top of the world ranking concerning personal guns.

The gun laws are getting more restrictive. And many people are turning in old guns to the Police to be destroyed.

Monday Night

This was taken Monday night at a private billiard club in Zurich. It is Christina Delagarza, myself, Sandra Hofmann (German player) and one of the locals who played Scotch Doubles with us.

Thank you to Christina Delagarza for hosting us at the club. It was a great time and I hope we can do it again.

I love these pool room pics from around the world. I remember when you came up to Maine Cuaba... must be cool to be able to travel so much.

I gotta admit, the table time prices made me gasp a little. I almost punched my MedicAlert bracelet. Imagine if a pool room could get away with charging $27.00 in america... we still have guys on the forums who say "you pay a DOLLAR when you play on barboxes? It's only 50 cents where I come from."

Creedo, I hope we can play again sometime. I go to T.J.'s every time I'm in Maine, and have become friends with the Reynolds. Hopefully I'll get back again soon. If so, I'll let you know.

Zurich is a great city, but everything is very expensive. The club I was at Monday night was about $11 for 3 hours. But that was as a guest of a member who pays monthly fees.

Cuaba - I've since moved to VA! But if you come this way we'll shoot again. How much is a shot of something fancy in Zurich?

Scott - that's nuts, until now the highest I bumped into in the USA was 20/hr, at Dave'n'Busters (I mean, seriously?). I'm guessing gamblers occasionally used the private room? Or it wasn't that kind of place?

You mean "personal" and not govt issued assualt weapons, machine guns and/or pistols ?

A gun is a gun no matter how you got it.

I was giving Switzlerland a compliment. They won their freedom and stayed neutral for centuries because of their "guns", and avoided two world wars. And most every household has some type of weapon, whether personal or govt issue.

Even Hitler did NOT want to feel the wrath of a heavliy armed population in which almost every adult male has done their mandatory militiary training. Probably the only smart thing Hitler ever did was not MESS with the SWISS :)
