Thanks for your constructive and positive input. With that bubbly outlook how could anyone not want to continue trying to organize events. I mean what good is getting a hotel to ante up $15,000? Might as well just tell them to keep it and we can all stay home and play on the internet.
 
There are two announcements coming Friday night, players should like them a lot! This should get players excited about the event.
 
Pool is dying

First the not so relevant part. You guys have the best President in your history embrace ad support him while you can. Your new health care system is going to be the nuts, especially for professioal pool players and hustlers I guess (they get hurt more than average) ;).

Now for the important part. My wife plays Pro level curling (don't laugh yet) she also has a day job, and I love pool so she understand my want ing to go an travel to watch Pro pool tournaments.

However when i compare the two i think pool players mostly suck at supporting the big time players. In curling they get corporate sponsorship from blue chip companies for rec league all the way to the big time. When the big time tourneys are on, they get fans who take a full week holiday to travel and attend (there's no league big event, just fans showing up)they play in front of 15,000 fans, get good tv deals and ratings on major networks and big big prize money.

Now if i compare this to the last June Summit of pool in Vegas where there was an abundant # of league pool players actually there at the RIV for the ACS nationals no one showed up to support the pro event. (i know the quality of the field issue) i have been to Vegas many times to support this event, even when the field is good or amaizing, amature pool players don't care to show up (it's $10 bucks). I used to think that promoteurs made it dificult for fans to get to event by putting the shows in Vegas or Chesapeak or Manila. There are natural markets like Chicago or anywhere in the state of Texas that have tons of league players that should be at least the priority market for promoters to atract fans, but tourneys in those markets don't atract many paying fans either.

TAR who is the best pool show on the planet, when they put up a $25PPV's that i think would be available arround the world get viewers in the hundreds (btw it should be millions) - and these are dream match-up for big money, to a pool fan nothing should be better, yet.... where are they???

I play in leagues and if i would suggest to go to the DCC or the US open as a 4 day trip i get yawns. DCC is the Disneyland of pool, i don't get it.

I know some AZ'ers are the best fans and do what they can to support, i'm not trying to be a jackass, i find it sad for the most part that's all. Most of you know what the top players sacrifice to be at the top of this artform, yet they have to bust their asses wiwo for crums and be treated like bums instead of elite.
 
i wonder why my league operator should not be leting me know of all these events? Of all people league players should be the first in line to see pro events. they can even get organized to travel in teams or groups. THey can even offer a trip as the league prize.

I suspect many Canadians voted for him and if it turns out like the health care up North people are screwed. My current health care if free and I pay no copay. Now that's health care.

No curling is interesting, I never knew there were so many ways to scrape and brush ice to move a rock :).

Interesting you mention this, Melissa Little is doing just this! She's offering a paid entry into the 2009 US Open for the top point getter in her 15 rack pool league. Here's the info: http://www.melissalittle.com/melissa_little/15_rack.html.

She said next session the prize would be for entry into all 3 tournaments at DCC. Way to go Melissa! Thanks. It's an interesting idea and hope it catches on...it's good for POOL which is on "the brink of death".

i'll only be playing in the ten ball event....

I didn't realize at first that it would be played on barboxes, but after I found out I figured what the hell, my wife said I could go, so why look a gift horse in the mouth, besides I've never had troulbe playing on barboxes just never really cared for it.

So I'm taking three days off from work and have reserved a room at the sands from Sunday through Wednesday.

How can you beat 35 a night?

Shit if you split it, it's friggin 17.50 a night. i'm not splittin it but so what.

I'll be losing about $800 from not working and it'll cost me about 300-400 but so what....it's playing pool and I need a break from work so let's get it on...

You are right. I think the Canada vote was the determining factor in Franken getting in office also.


Regarding pool dying............well so far it's been a long lingering death. Maybe someone will find the cure this year.

Regarding this event. Those who can should attend!:thumbup:

Has it occurred to anyone that people in America who have JOBS don't have an unlimited amount of time off work nor money to "support" pool tournaments around the country? My stepmom works for a huge hospital chain, she has been with them for 30 years, she has TWO WEEKS paid vacation a year.

And right now those with jobs are wanting to hold on to them so asking for extra time off, even unpaid leave, is not something that most folks want to do when someone else who doens't play pool is standing outside ready to fill that position.

And even if you have the time it's not easy to travel to events and fade the nut of hotel/food/airfare etc... IF you aren't likely to cash in some way that gets you close to even.

What pool desperately needs is a way for all these big tournaments to be fed by local weekly tournaments. If you take a little bit of money from each player in the weeklies and spend it on the best player in those series to pay their way to the bigger events then it works out better for everyone. The bigger tournaments get plenty of entries they can count on, the players have EARNED their expense money and the local players all got a good shot to go with everything paid for. And I guarantee you that doing it this way will inspire a lot of players who didn't get the paid spots to go anyway.

But honestly, people have to make decisions as to which events they can attend. If my choice is BCA/VNEA in Vegas or DCC vs. Bartable Reno and I can only choose one due to my limited free time and budget then Reno is off the list.

Every major sport has a feeder system in place EXCEPT pool. No wonder we are on the "brink of death".

Good Idea, I love the idea of having local leagues putting in money going towards a representitive going to a major event. People put in all kinds of money to these other leagues and get nothing back for all for the money spent. Only the operators are making the money. APA for instance.

I think the real problem is that these kind of events really depend on the "weather." This might be "here today, gone tomorrow", it could easily fall off the radar of even the most avid pool players. There is really not much to look forward to.

if I understand your meaning, then I would have to disagree. This event is very simular to the USBT. If we can weather the first year, we will grow, and it will be around a long time. We are already putting things in place to feed the event in the future.
