Pool players with talent thats less Unfortunet

Well, I know I'll incurr the wrath of heck for this, but here goes the skeptic. Let me present my credentials. I'm a bona fide dropout from the 9th grade. My worst subjects were English and composition. I hated my English teacher and she hated me. When I turned in a paper she would give it a brief look then tear it in half and drop it in the waste basket saying, I can't read that. These were hand written you understand, in pencil, and I have poor handwriting. My point? Nobody could write and spell that badly accidently. It has to be deliberate.

But I'll tell you what I'll do. If you are real I'll send you a dictionary. If you will use it it, it will do you more good than all the pool practice you could possibly do.

Who exactly are u turning in to the grammar police anyway ?

I'm glad to see this thread is still going. You can see that there is some quality folks here at AZ.

Thanks for the nice comments and shout out gesture; however, they are not needed. Your success is my reward -- and that's straight up! I'm really glad you got a sponsor. Some of the best news I've heard in awhile :)

I hope others will chime in here as this sort of thread is what AZ is all about.

I wish you the very best in your endeavor. It takes lots of hard work and dedication -- you already have the heart and the support of AZ!

Respects,

I love this post. Matt90 is so right when he said : .... "those of us with good mom's are truely blessed." Gabe, if you are reading this, you are truly blessed indeed! (You're Mom is an angel, but you're a monster! )

Robleyf7: I really enjoyed our time last night at that French site with you me and sde. The one thing you aren't is a "nit" and that's for certain.

Some good advice here from some solid folks that know of what they speak and I am sure there is more to come. Steve (sde) had some solid stuff in the chat as well. Take it to heart and we'll be happily seeing you on a stream someday (soon I hope) taking the cash. I do look forward to that day!

Bob <Loves watching Mom sweat in the chat -- she's a hoot!>

PS: Gabesmom: Tried to rep yea on your wonderful post; but, it seems I gotta pass it on some more -- dad nabbit anyway!

Hi cmbwsu...just now read this post...I've been caught up in the evolution thread over in NPR!

Thanks for the kind words.

But when I found out Gabe wanted to play pool (rather than work at McDonald's ) at 16 yrs old, I decided to just support him with what little resources I had, and see where it went.

So first thing I said is 'I want you to do this as right as we can figure out'...because I had seen so many talented players end up with nothing at the end of the day, having let thousands of dollars pass through their hands....and ended up with no homes, cars, perhaps even families. 3 things I've always believed can really hurt this kind of career, is drugs, alcohol, and often women. (Did I just say that? women?) :ignore: And I think he's done a fairly good job, as I said, considering the vast jungle of other pros.

But since I had followed all his sports since T-ball, the collecting of baseball cards, (which a professional collector in Vegas said he had a keen eye for those - and we still have. Geez, they've got to getting vintage by now ), baseball, soccer.... just his passion for sports...it was only natural to support and follow his pool career.

It's funny...his brother has a 'classified info' job, as an engineer, so can't let anyone know what he does, including his own wife....and then Gabe is out there for all to see. So since I can't keep up with his bro's career, (except for very general information), gives me more time for this.

But, when at a crossroads as to what to do, I just made a decision when they were teenyboppers, to do whatever it took to try to reach a goal. And I think both boys feel they've reached most of those goals in life...and not just a financial goal, but an all encompassing goal, of trying to do what you love, and make a living at it, being fairly happy, caring and giving back when they can. And I must add, they have both been soooo appreciative to me and show it, and give back in many wonderful ways, although I don't expect any of it. (well, there's just a few things on my list I expect

But it has also taken soooo many others in the pool industry that helped Gabe too, and I offer my heartfelt thanks to all of them for that! And I know he understands that himself. And especially Jeremy Jones and Johnny Archer's friendship was important...even his buddies Schmidt, the Freezer, Mueller, his dad's Schurtz Cues, AZBilliards!!!, and many others I can't recall right now.

Just takes all kinds to make the world go round and help people's dreams come true, IMHO.

To a point I agree with Dave Nelson's post. Some of the prior posts indicate
that they have seen this young man shoot a good as he claims but I still remain skeptical that he can be so close to being illiterate at his age. There are so many good players out there who never make it to the top ranks that it would be seriously important for so many reasons for him to learn the English language. I hope he is for real and hope that someone gives him a break to start a long and satisfying career in pool. That would be great. But it is tough and the odds are long. I wouldn't fade it.:(

Christ! Only friggin time you used a . was when you needed a ', as you say, LOL. You know that whole post was one sentence, right? smpilolsfh.

So you think, 'if only, then...' .

You think you are made of what Cole Dixon, Dennis Searcy, George Breedlove, etc...are? Doubtful...and they sure don't play pool for a living.

We would all love to play for a living, reality is only a few can, while many fail.
You better position yourself a lot better for the game of life. I'd suggest accounting. Lol

Robley, pronounced Rob Lee, has overcame some major hurdles in his life to be the shooter that he is today. Like I said in an earlier post.....He has a lot of heart! He has manners and is respectful of others. More than I can say for some in this thread.

Just because someone is lacking in one or more areas, doesn't mean they can't excel in another. I never met someone that I couldn't learn something from. Some I learn how to do things and some I learn how not do things.

Before we start judging others, maybe we should take a good hard look at our own faults.

That would be fun to meet sometime. Gabe is involved in a big tournament coming up at Magoo's in Tulsa in February I believe. Maybe you can make it to that one too.

As far as your spelling, etc., I wouldn't worry what others say. Of course it's always good to try to improve things, such as that. (but IMO, most of us have one thing or another that we can all try to improve)

I have a brother who is very illiterate, with 8th grade education. But he is a genius at construction...he & another brother who has a framing company in Tulsa has built several of Garth Brook's homes in the past few years....as well as building hundreds of homes and commercial buildings in Broken Arrow/Tulsa area. Not bad for being illiterate at reading/writing. But he has realized how it does hold him back in other endeavors.

But still a genius, and one of the best at his craft.

I wish you the best!

ah ok yea that sounds good i might try an make it up there

an i.m not worried about people telling me how to type lol
but i will make sure too type a lil neater

There are some, even in this very thread, that should pay heed to this statement. It does not come as a surprise to me that you are the author of same!

Heartfelt respects,

Truck,

I could not agree more with this post. Knowing you as I do, this is not just super adjectives laced with trite expressions either! You sir are a class act -- period, end of story. :thumbup2:

Ha! Don't worry about my feelings not your problem but thanks for the consideration i just think that a person needs to position his self with the best options that are available and at this time in your life knowing how to run a rack or 3 of 8 or 9 ball is not setting you up for the best mid to late life if you think about how much your life has changed in the last 5 years then imagine if you can the changes that you will go through in another 5 or 10 or 20 or more years and there is a good chance that pool will no longer be important to you but live and food and a place to put your butt and maybe have a couple of bucks to go have fun for example if you got some basic office skills you could almost always find some kind of office work i think that even might be tough in la so you would have to move and then you would need a place to live and pay bills if you can't work from home if you can then you need a good computer at least if your job can't get you one then if you did work you could have some money in the bank so a thou wouldn't bust you

'You can be anything you want' is not a complete truth.

Pool as a living is hard. For a short time I was supplementing my income with my Youtube videos, but the rug got pulled out from under me. I have had some success getting help to do various other projects but nothing that rose to the level of paying my bills.

We live in harsh economic times, but even in the best of economic times the outlook for pool is very lean. For me pool isn't about money, its about passion and enjoying life. With that said don't give up on your dream of playing full time. My only suggestion is to keep knocking on doors, emailing, calling and networking. If you contact a 100 people 99 will tell you to get lost but one will help you move forward.

Don't give up,
Marcus

thanks i don.t wanna play pool to make a living i wanna play pool cuz i love the game an have passion for it an i know that i can do some good once i get out there

all my bills are getting paid an i will have some left over so that helps some

an i have a friend that has a 8foot table an in a few months i think i.ll be ready to hit some big tournaments

but for now hes going to work for 1 month so i.ll practice on a bar box till then
