The old Trampster got his ass handed to him on a dinner plate today playing One Pocket and that did not include a side salad or desert.
What do you folks do when you have a bad day at the poolroom, or a bad night of league play?

I go to bed early the next two nights, then I practice nothing but my stroke drills (Mother Drills)for 3 days. Then back to my regular practice routine.

Sleeping it off might be the best advice :)

I go home and kick my dog, dang cat is too fast! Looks like dr9ball has done did that a bunch of times himself! :D :D :D

Let it go

Your going to have days and weeks hopefully not months,just keep at it and have fun,keep loose,and stay calm. [& have fun]
 
For me, this usually happens when I lose focus. I take a day or two off, clear my mind. then when I come back to practice I am refreshed and concentrate on whatever I was screwing up.
 
Thats just one time. I just went two and out tonight and I don't think I have felt better. Thats just how it is. Everyone goes through that. Just think you'll do better next time. Or the common "bad rolls" thing. Efren said " the more I practice the luckier you get." Funny...
 
everybody has a bad day...

you treat it like the rest of your garbage...

toss it out and never think about it again..

dwelling on bad days.. is like not taking out the garbage...


it starts to fester and stink and eventually gets so bad that all your time is consumed with the smell of rotting garbage...

it's easier to just toss it out everyday and never deal with the smell..

every time you walk to the table is a new chance..

a fresh chance..

you don't let last weeks spoiled hamburger impart it's stink to today's steak..

throw it away and forget about it..

negative thoughts are mental garbage

they pile up and get worse..

you gotta let it go... and forget about it..
 
I agree with Softshot. You have to dump the garbage -- But before you do, is there anything worth learning from?

I don’t keep a journal (not a bad idea by the way) but I do seem to remember the shots I should not have missed. I diagram these with a description of what was wrong. Now I can practice that shot at home until I have beat it to death – won’t miss that little sucker again and I can truly forgetabout it. That piece of garbage won’t show up again.

There is a confidence builder knowing that I have mastered that one and this helps the next time I play.

Notice, he didn't say 'if you lose'. He said 'when you lose'. Use that!
Dissect why you lost. Things you could have done differently, or things in your game you need to work on. Put those into your next practice session.

It's good that you're upset about losing. That means you have a competitive spirit. That's much better than just not caring. Not caring means nothing will change in your game. But that competitive spirit and drive is what will bring your game up to the next level.

Winning in pool really means you made less mistakes than your opponent. The more weaknesses you can eliminate from your game means the more times you will win.
 
I often think of Bustamante when considering how to react to a tough loss. Years back he was gambling with Johnny Archer, and JA ran the set out....13 games I think.......Bustamantes reply was.....double it? nothing like running 13 racks and your opponent wants to "back it and jack it! :)"

To me this tells volumes about his approach to the mental part of the game, and his control over his emotions. There was no fear, anger, give up.....just a self confident world beater.

Like said above.....no one likes to lose, but the only way you can REALLY lose is to NOT learn something from the experience.

Claim the winner cheated, refuse to pay, then commit suicide. I've done this for years . Works well.

...Winning is overated anyway...A lot of responsibilities come with a win..
You have to worry about getting robbed or trapped....how to invest the
money....stockbrokers fees are enormous...not to mention the bites...
Dylan says "when you got nothing you got nothing to lose."

But if you're still obsessed about winning just go back the next day
and say....I wanna see you do that AGAIN!

How did you get through the suicide part, inquiring minds want to know. I thought that was a trick you could only do once.
 
One thing I like to do is to not over analyze something too early. If you have a bad night you have a bad night, let it go and move on. If it becomes more and more common then you need to start thinking about what is taking place and what your doing wrong to correct the situation. When you start to over analyze something too early you could be beating your head in to correct a problem you don't have!

Just remember we are human! We are prone to make mistakes, your going to make them. Everyone has good days and bad days. Keep thinking all you want about the game and how your going to win the game or how your going to make each shot, then once it comes time to get down and make the shots get out of your own head and let your body take control and do what you just planned out.
