Pool Room Customers That Return Tray of Pool Balls in Sequence - Why?

I only did this once at a resort in Bonita Springs were they have an outdoor table next to the swim pool.
I retuned the balls in order so I could see if anyone else was using the table. I was hoping to run in some type of action on that table.

I would take a picture of my balls and post it but I don't want to cause anyone distress.

Greg, your balls are all over the internet.

At the pool room I return them all random and mixed up just like I got them.

At home I like to keep them number side up in no particular order.

My only racking compulsion is never placing the 8 on the corners and especially not at the apex for 1P, 14.1, or any game where the ball racking order/placement is irrelevant. I don’t care where else it goes, but for some reason I get bad vibes with it on the head spot or corners for some reason.

Yes, I know there has been a lack of interesting threads on this forum of late and this certainly doesn’t help change that. I’ve always been amazed by the number of our customers who return their tray of balls to us placed in perfect sequence, 1 through 15, with the cue ball being placed either before the 1-ball or after the 15-ball.

I would estimate that number somewhere between 10%-20% of all our customers. Just curious how many of you guys do that and if so, why?
To get more attention....

are you serious? re-arrange your sock drawer weekly too? fold your dirty clothes before washing? ;) I really feel kinda sorry for anyone that has full-on anal OCD. I know a few that do things that at first make me laugh but then i realize it can't be fun. I am 90% opposite, not a total mess but i really care nothing about having things so orderly.
My gun safe, ammo & knife collection are arranged by manufacturer, caliber and blade size.
The time required to put the balls in my travel case in sequence takes no longer than randomly.
I’ve done it so long that you automatically know where the ball position is….5 - 0 - 5…..so the
1st row ends with the 5 ball, 2nd row 10 ball, last row 15 ball. You pick up any #OB and you
look at the travel case and just know where the sequence position for any ball is or you can just
drop them in randomly. But it’s interesting to observe which forum members react with scorn and
ridicule to someone else’s propensity to do something different than they do. Kinda reveals a lot.

Hilarious!!!

these can't possibly be the same people who when arriving at their assigned table they then proceed to dump the tray full of balls onto the slate from two feet up?

Those people should be shot on the spot and it doesn't matter, headspot or footspot, either is fine. 😞

On a normal Sunday evening with nothing going on except me enjoying International Jazz Day (shameless plug for my favorite streaming channel: cooljazzflorida.com), me crying in my vodka martini, I’d view this thread with disdain, but I played so F-ing poorly today, this thread is friggin’ awesome.

Thanks for the levity so I don’t take myself or my lack of skill so seriously. No, really!!

I do not... that indicates insanity. Absolutely mentally irregular. I do not have to arrange balls to figure that out.

I do return mine in sequential order but I have the habit of returning them in the ball tray but the tray is upside down.

It’s really much harder than one would think.

I carry the pool balls in my Aramith travel case in numerical sequence (rows of 5 x3) and 2 CB.
It makes it easy when repacking the balls after playing 9 or 10 ball, which is mostly what I play.

You know which balls are missing if you come up short that sometimes happens with drop pockets.
While gathering balls, you pass a pocket with a OB. Placing OBs in sequence identifies what’s missing.

The last row (OB#11-15) in my case only gets used when I play 14.1 and 8 ball. Just randomly putting
balls in any order in my travel case just looks careless, clumsy and lazy. IMO, I prefer the organized look.
Remind me of when I was going through a deck of cards, separating them by suit and putting them in order. My friend said, "you know you can just count them." It's true if the deck is incomplete it doesn't matter which one is missing. If the 3 ball is missing from your set, you don't have to look for the three, if a ball is in the bottom of the pocket, it's probably yours.

I actually sort the cards because I used to play canasta, which uses 2 decks. When you want to use only one you have to sort them.

It makes it easier for the house to check quickly whether it's the original set of balls and they haven't become mixed up with those at another table (there are actually people who go to pool rooms who would never notice if they had two 2s and no 3). It's also a good way to give the balls out in the first place.

How long you been here ? No reason to be logical. 🙄
