Do you have a table in your shop? Do you consider it a vital piece of equipment for the cue maker?

I think it's critical, for me, anyway. I experiment a lot so it's nice to have a place to test things. I also hit balls with every cue before I send so I know if it's going to feel right & not have any issues. Sometimes tips aren't what I think they should feel like, etc. And it's a nice backdrop for taking pictures so I don't have to put the cues on carpet or whatever.

As for me, its essential if there's a cue there should also a table:thumbup:..
Testing would be the main objective..

pool table in shop maybe (odd size)

I Agree I need one in my shop. BUT, I have no room. Do you think anyone makes a test table, like the one I saw at the show? Maybe a foot wide and six feet long, about the size of a cue lathe (hightower) deluxe.
I guess even longer so I could test cues, jumps, etc.thanks JerseyBill

Are you kidding.........where in Gods name would I be able to find room in my shop for a pool table? I had to put the darn thing in the house! Now testing takes twice as long because once I go in the house..........pantry, TV, computer, a couple phone calls later, back to the table for some more testing........

It is an absolute necessity. You need someplace to spill stuff like oil, grease, epoxy and superglue.

I find it essential, but I know a few cuemakers who get along fine without one. I of course like to test any cue I work on and it also is nice to just hit some balls around while you're waiting for epoxy to set up. It also works well to keep repair customers out of my hair while I'm working.

I designed one that is two feet wide and six feet long with one corner pocket and one side pocket. I have asked the local table maker to make me a prototype. It's based on the test table that one of the dealers takes to the shows. I thought that such a table can be used in shops, on the road, in homes where people don't have enough room, in pool schools and in pool rooms for training purposes.

So far nothing has come of it. Hopefully someday. What would such a table be worth to you?

You just described my set up and habits pretty well.
It is nice having a pool table close by to test hit cues. I know many that take them to the pool hall and test them.

I got tired of going to the pool hall to test hit cues as well , so I got a table for that reason, also it was a Gold Crown 3 for less that $700

I just Gave My table to a friend of Mine last week. I hated letting It go mostly for sentimental reasons, but I found that I was going to the pool hall most of the time anyhow, never used My table anymore, and the space saved was more vital to me for other things. The pool hall is only a few minutes from Me, and I get free table time, so It's no big deal to run over there and do My testing. I'm sure that when ever I move into a larger shop I will be living farther away, and that I will get another table, but for now It works for me. Besides My old table is located only a few minutes away as well, and I can use It anytime I want to. I do feel close access to a table for testing purposes is important though.

I have a hard time keeping mine from getting covered up with stuff. I know that should not happen, but it does.
