Pool table cloth

Someone mentioned to me that there was a new, high quality mfg. of cloth that was every bit as good as the Simonis and was more reasonably priced. Is anyone familiar with what it may be.

I thought they told me Grenada or something like that, but I just can't remember, and I'd like to look into it a bit more.

They said it was announced recently on a pool special on TV I think. :confused:

Although I won't say its as good as simonis, I think your talking about Gorina.

You've not played on it then. Gorina Granito cloth comes in different grades, just as Simonis cloth does. The Gorina Granito Tournament 2000 cloth is as good as anything out there and and better than most. I think it's faster than Simonis 860.
 
Granito

I have Granito Basalt on my home table and I loved the speed and the way it played when it was in good shape. It tracks pretty easily, though, and isn't significantly cheaper than Simonis. I'm going to replace my cloth in the very near future with Velocity Pro at half the cost.

Meuller's prices Gorina Granito Tournament 2000 at $177 for a 9 foot table.

Billiard Warehouse prices Simonis 860 or 760 at $251.75 for the same 9' table.
 
Thanks for the inputs. I have relatively new 760 on my table at home and at least for me, it can be a tad too fast. I play 14.1 and thought that with the humidity in my basement it would closely simulate the standard 860, but that extra rotation or two of the CB makes me dislike it.

Since it's pretty new, I hate to spend a lot now to do it over. I thought the Gorino was much less. I see now that it isn't, so I will probably just live with what I have on there a bit more.

edit *** I may have read the Gorino cloth types wrong, but I don't think the tournament cloth is worsted cloth and that is all I'd be interested in.

Velocity Pro is a low priced alternative that a lot of people are having positive results with. (Myself included)

The biggest question with Velocity which came on the market in March 2007 was durability.
Now 1 1/2 years later we're finding it holds up and plays very well.

The keyphrase in your post is it's a "low priced alternative" (at $139 for a 9' table).

Your basement humidity can be cured just put an electric blanket up against the underside of your slate then turn it on about 15 to 20 minute before you play.....
 
How comparable is Velocity Pro to Simonis in regards to speed? Is it as fast or just under?

My buddy is going to recover 4 tables at his pool room and would like an alternative To Simonis. Thanks!!

From what I'm reading so far the Simonis 860 is 90%wool and 10% nylon. Their 760 is 70% wool and 30% nylon. (which I thought was a tad to fast)

Happily, the Velocity Pro I've been told about is rated at 85% wool and 15% nylon. A seemingly happy medium. Poolfelt.com has it at 139 for a 9' table. Free shipping, and a box or two of chalk to boot. It also mentioned the rail cloth is pre-cut.

This is worth a shot for sure .....IMO
 
Funny how prices vary

I recently installed Velocity Pro on 4 tables in my room, and although the results on durability are yet to be determined, I have found most of my players like it and have not complained. The speed is slightly slower than my Championship pro but very negligible. If it holds up it is a Godsend for room owners.
Why?

Cuestix sells it for $84 for a 9ft. table. Sure beats 139. Or $177 or 251.

Vilocity is very simular at half the price.

Velocity speed is about the same as 860.
Keep in mind that altho Velocity compared well with Simonis there are quality differences.

For 4 cuts you could have got it even cheaper elsewhere but
I believe you failed to mention that $84 is a Cuestix dealer price.

BTW - what is Championship pro ??
Something new or did you mean 3030 Tour Edition?
