What is the best 8ft or 9ft table i can get for under $1500 ...
Buy a used table and have it recovered. Ask to play on it first, if possible, to check for dead rails.

I agree with Bob, buy a used table.
If you buy a new table for $1500 it will be total crap.

will8834,

A friend of mine recently bought a Pool Hall in Ohio near I-275 and plans on selling off the 8 foot Nationals that are there. They are drop pockets and have a wood grain finish on top, the look of them remind me of the Brunswick Gold Crowns. The sale should be around March of 06 and he plans to let them go cheap, buyer will have to move them. I will post the notice here when he is ready.

If you weren't all the way down there, you'd have sold it to me...

I sold it this morning. I let it go pretty cheap because I have a Diamond professional lined up to be moved into its spot and the person who sold me the Diamond practically gave it to me but only if I moved it ASAP. Everyone involved in this changeout seems to be pretty happy.

Oh one more thing. If anyone is interested in a Diamond Light, I have one now and I dont need it. I would be willing to let it go pretty cheap too. Message me if your interested.

Have you tried craigslist? Searching in my area, there were about 12 tables, very reasonable. Some are old Brunswick's that have been sitting in someone's basement for years and they practically give them away just to get them out of there. There is a craigslist for every major city.
