I thought it would be interesting to have a poll to see how much money we have in our pool cue(s), case(s), extra low deflection shaft(s), and our accessories. I've been up and down with the number of cues that i've owned at one time and i'm down to the lowest number of cues i've owned over the last few years. I have to admit that the economy has played a role in the amount of money I have in my pool related equipment.

Between my sticks and table, I'm over $3500, but I know people who have investments in collectable sticks who have spent many times that amount.

I voted over $3500 but included my table. Sans table, it would have been in the category between $2500 and $3500.

It's a funny poll to me, sort of. Over the past 10 years or so I have foolisly invested thousands of dollars into custom cues and cases only to never be totally satisfied. I have definitely learned that it matters not, how much you spend that counts on a cue.

I still have over 5 grand in cues that I don't use, which is not much compared to many on this forum. Even though I have these very nice cues and cases, I have switched gears. If I added my table and accessories in, I would be well over 10 g's!! Ouch

I now play and break with a very plain birdseye Schuler cue. No breaker, just carry a plain GTF case with no pockets 2x4 (very nice and light by the way). The only specialty equiment that I carry is a Predator Air. I could and would gladly sell my custom cues if the price was right because I am completely satisfied with my Schuler. It has no rings, points, wrap etc.. Just a one piece handle and it plays fantastic, to me.. JMHO

Nothing wrong with playing with fancy cues if that's what you like, I have just discovered that they are not necessary for me.

$80 or so on tip tools, shaft slickers, joint protectors, etc.

$700 on equipment, or thereabouts. I'm not big on equipment; I've spent just enough to have equipment conducive to playing great pool; the rest is up to developing my skill level.

Up to the last few years I played (tried a comeback) I would say under $300 covered my cue, cue case and a few items in it. Sometimes I owned a table, sometimes I didn't. The last year I spent a lot more money on cues hoping that they would help me play good again. No fool like an old fool. Johnnyt

Quality table (made by Sovereign Billiards) and balls/table accessories- 165,000 baht (add another 15,000 baht for shipping and set-up)- works out to about $5600- could bought a Brunswick Metro table (if I had room for a 9-footer- current table is an 8-footer) for almost $12,000- toys can be expensive here in Thailand.:rolleyes:

Cues- About $5000

Miscellaneous doohickies- maybe $250

I think you hit the nail on the head. I know players that wouldn't think of playing with a fancy cue because they think they'll get a score one day on an unsuspecting player by keeping a low profile with a plain cue and a cheap case.

I've owned a number of top name cue makers Hoppe style cues that were really nice cues, but I guess it's just me because I became bored with the plain look of the cues. For me I like a cue with trim rings, veneered points, and some inlays and I don't mean over the top inlays, but just a few ivory diamonds and ivory dots placed in the right places makes all the difference in how much I like a cue.

If you like your plain Shuler then I think that's great for you and if I like a cue with trim rings and a few inlays then that's what makes me happy. That's the beauty of the cue world with all of the different choices we have. I think you can spend about as much as you want on a cue within reason if your budget will let you.

I'm on the high end

I've got a few cues including a couple of Gina's and an old TAD so I guess my answer is self-explanatory.

Although until I bought the last Gina I paid $130 for one Gina and $400 for the TAD, but in 1969 & 1978 respectively.......:)
