Possible cheating AzB'er at Denver Open last night?

Hello all;

Was watching The Bigtruck stream last night when there was an incident involving an AzB'er who allegedly cheated by moving two beads for himself after winning a game. I believe his opponent called him on it but nothing was done about it since the ref or TD did not see what happened.

I will hold off with names for now as I am unsure if there was any resolution or other developments after I signed off. If this actually happened, what a crappy thing to do.

Not wanting to start a rumor mill here - if anyone has any facts or can provide more clarity regarding this incident, it would be appreciated.

Best,

cheat

I was watching the stream last night also and the player in question did move 2 beads instead of one, but from what i saw there was no resolution to it because as the cheating player stated the ref did not see it.

Hello all. I was/am the TD and the reason that nothing was done is that the opposing player did not bring this to MY attention. The only way I found out about it was through spectators after the match had continued playing. Had the opposing player stopped the match and said something to ME we would have been able to address this differently. I have spoken to the opposing player and everything has been clarified. Thanks for watching the stream and we will be back up today at around 12 MT for the final 12.

Thank you for responding.

Too bad for the player who got had. My only remaining question is whether the player who awarded himself two beads instead of one did so on purpose.

Was this blatant cheating?

So could you please explain it to us?

Thanks.

impact?

did it change the outcome of the match?

cheating sucks, no exceptions, just curious if it mattered in the end other than the sharking effect

Brian,

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of AZ'ers who might say "if you snooze, you lose!" The number is small but sometimes very vocal. Especially if the focus isn't on them!

I was there and it is true. During the 1st game there was a question about a hit and because the ref was not called to watch it, the shooter got the benefit of the call (may have been the right call anyway, but I was not paying much attention). The beads still were at 4-2 from the previous set racing to 5, so after the person who thought they were wronged won the 1st game, he only moved the 4 beads over leaving the 2 for him. The "other" player was at the end of the table and could not see what was done. The "other" player won the 2nd game and went to move his bead (should be 1-1) and asked about it to his opponent. He was told if the ref didn't see it...blah, blah, blah - A$$.

The "other" player didn't think anything could be done about it so he did not go to the tournament director, so there was no involvement. The rail was livid and would have clarified everything for the tournament director if called, so it could have been corrected. It was not the t-director's fault at all.

And yes, it did have something to do with the outcome of the match, it was hill hill (4-4) - the "other" player lost.

I will not name names, but I'm sure someone will. It was very sad. I think the one that stole a game should have been disqualified from the tournamnet for unsportsman like conduct.

just a move

The difference between cheating and a move is if you get away with it or not. Kinda like when a player blatantly fouls and then says the call goes to the shooter when there is no ref.

Somebody did that to me on a ridiculously obvious foul and on my very next turn at the table I shot an object ball cleanly into the hole, without benefit of using the cue ball. The other player was a wee bit upset but I told them no ref and the shooter says it was a good hit! I have done that a few times actually. When the smoke clears the other person usually realizes there is some benefit to playing a gentleman's game.

Nice, I could just imagine the look on your opponents face.

In this case, if the player that cheated would not correct his ways. After the next game I won as he was racking, I would move all my markers over, put my sticks up, and say "man 4 break and runs in a row,,,I was on fire, good match". and go to the TD and inform him that I won.
Two wrongs don't make a right, but if an individual is going to intentionally pull that crap, I don't even want to play him.

That's real strong. And smart too!

I been playing, reading about, studying, watching and around pool for 40 of my 51 years. And I just learned something new to go into my "If Needed" part of my game.

Thanks Hu!

Who cheated on his score? Not cool. Was it this bill guy thats the announcer now or Tommy he was playing?

I've been called lots of things before but never a shrinking violet... ;)

If I ponied up money for an entry fee to play in a tourney and someone tried to get over on me by taking an extra bead, I'm pretty sure there would be a problem.

The guy who we are discussing, his name is Bill Meacham, AzB member "Island Drive" (maybe it's with a space or a hyphen).

Strangely, at this very moment he is co-commentating on the Bigtruck stream with Ray. I tried twice on the chat to ask Meacham about it but was asked by Ray not to. I'm guessing it was awkward. I am a big fan of Rays and his Bigtruck stream. I honored his request to drop it.

So there you have it, maybe someone here on AzB who knows him can ask what happened. The rail already seems to know what went down; but I'm sure they would be interested to hear why... :(
