OMG, just how good does that cue look now...nice that we got a chance to really see the grain in the woods. I know you are HAPPY :)....it's spectacular.

Sean

And the pics still don't show the grain as much as I can see it in natural light. I like the straight grain of it, and the lighter grains seem almost translucent and shimmer when the light hits them right. The cue does appear to be ebony from a distance, but up close it changes to that dark burgundy. Some have also likened it to Brazilian rosewood and Macassar (sp?) ebony, although more on the brown side, but similar graining.

If you are looking for something different, especially to use pink ivory into, you really ought to give Madagascar rosewood/Bois de Rose a consideration. I just knew the two woods would work well together!;) The whole design has a simple elegance to it, I think. And the double thick pink ivory veneer 'pops' that curly maple forearm!!

Yeah, you could say I'm pretty happy about this cue. :D

My Skip will soon be here. :D

LOL that gives new meaning to post pics of your Skip.
I've had that same letter many times and you can never sleep well that nite, you should have done what I do and hunt that truck down to the ends of the earth.

Nice cue, Bugs! Looks great!! I'm sure you'll enjoy the cue.....do you plan on shooting with it? I am doing well with mine.:D

19oz, 58", Curley maple forearm with Rosewood points and maple, orange, brown, and black veneers. Long rosewood buttsleeve with short white cap. 2 shafts at 12.75mm with ivor-x ferrules and triangle tips. Black collars with maple ringwork. Skip really does some awesome work!!! :D :D :D

Hey Mark,

Congrats on the cue! It's awesome...clean, traditional. Have a great weekend of trying it out!

Regards,

Steve

Another beauty from Skip....congrats! What type of rosewood is it, out of curiousity? I'm a big rosewood fan these days.:)

Lisa

Thanks!!!

Thanks, Steve. Hoping to get the classic "pool neck affliction" with it this weekend. Really looking forward to feeling the Skip Weston "hit" firsthand. I'm definitely gonna spend most of the weekend getting to know her well!!! :) (wow...I've got issues!!)

Lisa - I'm embarrassed to say, I'm not sure what kind of rosewood it is. When I ironed out the details with Skip, I asked for a rosewood sleeve and points...and matching recut veneers. I never stipulated which type...and he never said which one he used. Under the light, there's the tiniest bit of a dark purple-ish hue to it.......but I'm uncertain about which area of the world it came from.

The cue is 90% exact to what I imagined. The orange recut is a touch darker than what I imagined...but that's what happens, I suppose, when you use actual hardwoods as opposed to dyed sycamore or poplar wood. That, and the joint collars were supposed to be brown phenolic with a silver trim ring (to match the rosewood). Instead, I got black phenolic with maple ringwork. Now that I see it up close, I think I prefer the maple ringwork in black. It adds a touch more to the cue...and Skip didn't even charge me for them. Also, they match the outermost ebony recut veneer on the points (and the black bumper..and the ferrule pads, too :))....so the cue came out looking really great.

Can't wait to take her out tonight!!! :)

Congrats on a beautiful cue buddy.

I remember when Skip and I were discussing rosewood options, him mentioning he had some dark East Indian. Looks like you got an incredible, dark piece of it.:) I thnk the cue looks stunning! Simply elegant!! I went looking at some samples of it on the web, and found some very dark pieces such as yours that, while still unturned, had a dark purplish hue to it.....pretty cool. Mine is very similar in characterisitic, however, it has a definite rich burgundy undertone.....think black cherry in color.

I thnk you are absolutely going to love the hit of the Indian rosewood! I have a Paul Allers SP made of the Indian rosewood. It is a much lighter color however. It wasn't the prettiest SP on the rack, but I knew it was gonna be a great hitter, and I wasn't disappointed.

Give us a review once you've had time begin the 'bonding' process.;)

Thank you, Lisa. I took a gander at some of the rosewoods online, too...and I think you're right...it appears to be East Indian. I was amazed to see how many different types of Rosewood there was!!

Well, I spent most of the night in a Northern D.C. poolhall tonight....and I couldn't put the cue down. The hit is absolutely PERFECT! The feel is great, the feedback is awesome...and I was able to put a SICK amount of spin on the cueball, without really having to try all that hard. Now...I'm not much of one for a ton of english and such...but I just had to put the cue through its paces...and it came out Aces all around. I'm seriously impressed....and can't wait for round 2!!! :)

Rat,

When are we going to play? I don't go back to work until Weds, so hit me up.

You can play with my Skip if I can play with yours. (That didn't sound quite right...did it?)

Matt....wanna play today? I'm free...and the only thing I have on tap right now is getting a new cell phone.

If so, I'll bring my 3x6 case...and bring my top 3 favorite cues to share notes on.

8 Ball Rat,

Great playing today. I think you have found your "player" in that Skip. You were running out like a champ. Let me know when you want to sell that Jensen. It played dynamite!!!!

See you next week for round two!

:) :)

Thanks, Matt! I think you're right...the Skip has quickly managed to become my favorite cue...and now my regular player.

As far as tonight's game goes....thanks for going easy on me! ;)

And yeah...the Jensen hits silly good. Almost scary, really...but I could part with it, I suppose, if the stars align themselves right! :)

Nice game tonight, bro. See ya next weekend.

You just let me know buddy. Judging by the specs on your cue, mine is very similar to your tastes.
