Anyone know how long it is/was out? Also I've heard rumblings about bad storms in Vegas, any clarity on this? Was thinking about heading out there...

There was some heavy weight lightning going on about 8:00 and some flooding but nothing major, at least where i live.

I didnt hear anything about the Rio but i know they had a flood of some sort at Treasure Island in Gilleys bar, that was on the news. Who knows what caused that ?

Some high winds but that didnt last long, i was going to go to the BCA tonight but the wife was pestering me to stay home because i might get caught in a flood.
I think she really just wanted some help with the laundry, lol.

OH NO!!! Please tell me you didn't even fold a washcloth! Haha I don't do laundry. Hell I don't even pick up the soap from the grocery store.

Crazy there is that much going on in Vegas. I've been there for about 200 days in my lifetime and never seen even a drop of rain.

A new record...

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A severe thunderstorm with strong winds swept through Las Vegas, knocking down trees and utility poles and scattering gamblers from the casino floor at Caesars Palace as flooding hit parts of the famed Strip.

Some resorts on the Strip and Fremont Street were without power several hours after the fast-moving storm moved through the city at about 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal (http://bit.ly/12UXRDS ) reports that Clark County fire units also responded to several calls of people needing water rescue near the Strip.

NV Energy was working on outages that affected 33,000 people across the Las Vegas area, company spokeswoman Kelley Mulroy said.

A new daily rainfall record of 0.22 inches was set at McCarran International Airport, and more than an inch of rain was recorded in suburban Henderson. Some of the record rainfall kicked a hole in the roof of Gilley's Saloon, a Western-style bar at Treasure Island on the Strip where customers watched as sheets of water fell in.

No injuries have been reported, but falling trees and gas lines severed by tornado-like winds forced the evacuation of 200 condominium units on the city's east side, Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski said. Fifteen units were damaged by falling trees, and about 50 residents of the complex were expected to take shelter at a nearby high school.

The National Weather Service says that a 71-mph wind gust swept through nearby Nellis Air Force Base. Multiple buildings in the area were struck by lightning.

.22 inches and a whole big inch in Henderson? What a Pussy storm. Come to FL!

My thoughts exactly. That has to be a typo right?

LOL. We get 1/4" almost everyday from late June to mid September in Tampa, FL. 71 MPH winds...not so much. But it does happen here more than once a season. Johnnyt

Did they have the proper back up generators?
If not, I am imagining the worst case scenario, where people are making a grab at chips in the tables games, and bolting.

Rio power outage

I was in the Rio tournament room watching Corey and Dennis playing the one pocket hot seat match, Dennis up 2-0 plus the ten ball was in full swing, all the lights went out, total darkness for a good 10 seconds, then the generator power kicked on. All table lights not on generator so they were all out.

That made me laugh a bit also, did they get the National Guard to direct people during this emergency situation? What exactly got flooded? A mouse nest?

Yes, the lights went out for several hours. In the convention center,

We had total black out for a few seconds and then the overhead lights kicked in. We shut down the booth and left before everything came back on. I'm expecting it to be back to normal when we get down there this morning.

From what I've heard, the casino didn't miss a lick. The lights flickered a little bit, but nothing else really changed. I did notice that there were some sections of machines roped off and it looked like they had limited or no power. They may have been damaged by a spike or something too.

The biggest issue is the scheduling of the tournament. It's going to be a tough challenge to get things caught back up and back on track. I'm hoping that everyone will understand this and be patient and work with them, but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe the power outage will let Corey get back in his game! I'd love to see him win the hot seat. Corey has done very well since we started sponsoring him. He's a tremendous talent and a champion.

A mouse nest...funny.

I imagine they don't have good drainage and their power lines are on poles unlike underground like most cities in FL. But 71 mph is not too cool anywhere. But the 71 mph was probably for 1 sec in one place the way they report thing today. Johnnyt

How was the 3rd game going for Corey? Was he up or down big, did the layout heavily favor either player?

I think God made this happen because he is pissed off that the filipino's are starting to take over our game of One Pocket...

Nevermind I found it posted on the 1p site, he is down 6 to 1 in 3rd game.

The problem with a place like Vegas/Henderson is that the infrastructure isn't set up for heavy rains. The drainage system isn't so catered towards evacuating big quantities of water. I have a place in Anthem and most of the community streets don't have sewer systems. The water drainage is just a slight cement gully at teh curb. For the most part, this is how it is all over the area.

here's where the problem comes in- the "sewage system" can be overcome very easily by a 1" sudden rainfall. Also, because the ground is so hard and baked, it cannot absorb the water. Therefore, the water sits ON TOP of the dirt/land. It's also the cause of flash floods.

In addition, most roofs are not in the best shape, as far as watersealing. Why? Cuz it rarely ever rains like this. In fact, most ppl's car wipers are virtually useless ever time it does rain. Why? Dryrot.

Just some perspective for those that aren't familiar with different areas. It's kinda like us in the Northeast sneering at Floridians when they complain that the temperature is in the 30's and they might freeze to death due to the incredible coldness.

I was wondering the same exact thing. I would imagine that somewhere someone was trying to take a few extra chips. I guess that it would be the time to do so if you were gonna try...
