Power Stroke Drill.

Thought I'd bump this old thread back up for kicks. I was banging balls around tonight and tried Joey's drill a few times. It is still a good one to work on!!

You are really into that S & M stuff aren't you?

Now you've got me thinking about going back and using Lee Brett's theory about straight-in shots, concerning the minutes, even though this isn't a straight in shot. Lee suggests in the video (at least that's the way I interpreted his words) that the theory works on almost straight-in shots as well. His theory might help with this shot as well.

It seems that a lot of the older diagrams have been corrupted so I am attempting to put another diagram up so others may see the shot.

For the record, I attempt this shot on 9 foot Diamond Tables and was unable to make a 20 which means that you have to hit between the 5 and the corner pocket WITHOUT TOUCHING THE 5 ball.

I wish I had the scoring legend that I originally used. Unfortunately, I forget exactly what score you got for hitting the 5 ball or coming between the 5 & the 4.

CueTable Help

Sheeesh.... Third time I have gone to cuetable.com to recreate the layout and all I keep getting is a red rectangular box with a red x through it.... hmmmm.

Ok, I think the Wei table features aren't working well right now. I used snippy tool to make a .png file of the layout. It isn't high res but you'll get the idea. Let me know how you do...

(Oh yeah, be sure and mention what size table and type table you perform your magic on. ;))

I have a 7 ft Valley with Mercury Ultra Cloth and I got the 20 in about 8 to 10 tries. I almost scratched in the side, off by 2 inches. I would think I could scratch in the corner as this is appears to be a 5 to 8 degree cut. I bet my friend with his z2 could hit the rail before the corner pocket. He gets mad backspin.

I haven't tried this shot on the 7 footers. Glad you are having such great scores. I could never get those kind of scores on the 9 foot Diamonds at Buffalo Billiards in Metairie.

In re-reading my post, it may have been unclear. I shot about 8 to 10 times before I got my 1st 20. Just 1 20, then I stopped.

I haven't shot on a 9 footer in close to 20 years, and I was not capable of getting a 20 on any table back then. I can't imagine how hard that would be, the felt would have to be better than mercury I would think?

I get frustrated trying to draw in to the long rail,I can draw the cb str up off that cut.
I haven't hit either of the balls..I get in between them..or to one side or the other..thanks for getting back to the practice table..I own a 8' olds..haven't tried this drill ob a 9'ft. I aim center pocket, because I want to make the ball..where are hitting the ob..I draw the cb into the side pocket trying to hit the long rail..sorry if my post seems messed up..I'm using my phone,an its getting the better of me today.

Scratchs,
It's just a fun drill, something to frustrate the heck out of you.

Don't worry, it seems that those who use an 8 foot table have a little better success with this than on a 9 footer.

It's been a while since I practiced this and I am about due for some self-flaggelation.

Does anyone else think they could draw to the end rail without hitting the side rail?

And yes, I will give this a go today on a Diamond 9 footer. I have a terrible habit of grabbing the cue on power strokes. This should be a good one for me.

edit: this will be in dry conditions on Simonis 860....this stuff is slicker than owl snot!

Okie
I can hit the long rail just fine..I have a problem drawing past the side pocket..
on that shot I'd just draw up an arcoss the table..or follow an go around.
But the drill was..draw up past the side pocket..my drawing the ball str up the table
was a miss stroke..once that happend, I thought..hey how much more can I get on my
stroke...I don't own the shot by any means..but its a fun shot..I bet Effern can do it..lol.
you have a good weekend.
