Ppl don't pay up, when do you let it go?

I had a guy last week I played for a beer. I won and he didn't pay. Keep in mind he is a friend of my buddies. No big deal, so we play a game of partners for a beer and they lose, again, no sign of a beer. So (me being me) kind of bust his balls a few times about the beer, but really it's no biggie, I have my own cash, but it's just the point. About a half hour later he wants me to play my friend and bet me $10. I said ok, but put the $10 up cause you're not gonna screw me outta $10, cause u already screw me out of two beers. It starts an argument (which is fine with me) but it's only over a couple beers. Anyway, they all decide to leave and I follow them outside and told them to forget about the beers, let's just play pool and have fun. This guy (prob in his 50's) takes a swing at me. I blocked it and told him to stop it or else (maybe not that nice). He was my elder and I'm a little younger (43) and in decent shape, so why even accept the challenge? I just let him go on his merry way. My question is, how would you have handled it?
Joey

This isn't about money, it's about hard feelings the man harbored for you for beating him, for whatever reason. The man was clearly in the wrong. Your friends did the right thing to leave the bar once things got heated. You were unwise to follow him outside no matter what your intent. Best to let these overheated, alcohol intensified situations diffuse themselves.

So many people get shot and knifed outside bars, I wonder how many of these situations would not occur if everybody was sober and acting rationally? The fact that he took a swing at you tells me he was not in control of himself and it could have been a lot worse.

By the way, I commend you for not decking him, even though you had the right. That says a lot about you. I certainly hope he gives you credit for that.

Hmmmm beer....

My friend and I were playing doubles 8-ball in a bar in Ft Lauderdale 20 years ago. The bet, a beer. They lost, wouldn't pay up or buy a round, so I bought a mug and poured it on the guys head soaking his welching ass. The look on his face and everyone else watching? Priceless........ :O)

The bouncers did make us leave, but I laughed all the way out the door!!

You need to stop playing pool.

How in the world does this talk even turn to a gun. You have some real issues to go from not paying to ill play again if you go get my soda, to defending yourself, then a gun if they have a weapon.

Just like all the problems going on today, if you choose to be done with the game after the first time, the second and third times don't appear. But hey, you go on Cowboy with your concealed gun. Good for you....

Until we have walked in another persons shoes none of us should pass judgement. The reason why I choose to carry a weapon at most times is not the concern of the public. However lets just leave it with there has been probably close to a half dozen times in my life that I have been the victim in a life threatening situation. I carry now because I like to feel safe when going about my life. I am not a cowboy as you put it but I choose not to be a sheep to the wolves out there anymore. As I said in my post I would have had them pay off the first debt as condition of the second. There would not be a third. I would not have followed them out as the OP did however if I I will not hide from anyone either. Honestly I see it as a threat if someone punches another. The idea of them having a weapon could be something as simple as a spiked ring that would blind a person for life with one punch. Another point the original poster stated that he was punched while a police officer stood there and watched that seems like a crime in itself

Not to be real argumentative but who appointed you to the position of GOD or gave you the right to say I should give up playing pool.
