Practising on a snooker table?

Does anyone do this (i.e. with 2 1/4" pool balls)?

I tried ages ago on a full size one and at the time definitely didn't have the skill level to make it worthwhile (which is probably still true :-), but I'm thinking maybe on an 8ft table for example it could be interesting (probably rubbish for 9-Ball though)!

Any thoughts on whether its worthwhile/too frustrating/adds no value and does anyone ever have any problems with the cushion heights not quite being the right size?

I live in the UK so 8ft snooker tables are pretty easy to pick up second hand and you can sometimes get some very good bargains, which got me thinking about this.

Played a lot of golf, pay ball and 7&9 ball on 10’s (12’s on the rare there ain’t many alive here)....heck yes it’s good....split the wicket.

It’s got its limitations but some of the eccentricities are def a build on a good all a round game

I also would play and practice on 10’s and 12’s when I was in high school. Many of the bars in the Midwest had at least one big track along with 7fters. I never got to play golf much, now it’s all Diamonds. Now If I get on a snooker table I will only play snooker.

We used to play 9 ball with standard balls on our ( now long-ago-sold ) 10' snooker table. Tough at first but we got used to it pretty quickly, Certainly sharpens your game, vis-a-vis aiming.

I can't even IMAGINE an 8' snooker table, To me, that would be like a 2.5 x 5 pool table! Wow.

Yes

I sold my 4 by 8 when i moved, sold the 2 bar boxes I had in my bar. I bought a 5 by 10 snooker table, we have golf game ever saturday, and one pocket or payball during the week. We use standard size pool balls, it's tough, but fun

Only problem I see is there are certain shots on a snooker table, down the rail for example, that are much more difficult on a snooker table than a pool table. Could get a bit frustrating.

I have only tried pool balls on a 12' snooker table a couple of times and I wouldn't bet I could shoot the ball straight into the holes 9x in a row, much less shoot them in normally.

Must be a difference in pocket size.

Sounds like Chinese 8-ball, 2 1/4" ball set and snooker style table/rail/pocket.

Yeah, well thats what gave me the idea, but snooker cushions and pockets will be fractionally different, so wasn't sure if it would work that well.

I don't think they make 8ft Chinese 8-Ball tables, otherwise I'd think about that.

Right??? No kidding! Talk about a toy!!! WOW.

8ft snooker tables are pretty common over here...our houses are a lot smaller than yours!!!

That said in clubs I've never seen anything smaller than a 12ft (although I hear there are some leagues on 9ft tables in some parts of the country)!

Yes, thats exactly what concerned me. I thought it might just be too difficult (maybe not even possible?) on shots close to the rail.

I presume Chinese tables, although they look like snooker tables are actually fractionally different, so the close to the rail shots, although tricky do go!

Never seen a Chinese table so I don't know if there is a difference, hard to tell just looking at videos.

Used to practice straight pool with the red balls, during college. Move to a nine footer and pockets seemed enormous.

Straight pool with the red balls on a snooker table sounds like a lot of fun. I'll try that one. Thanks.

I run drills on a 6x12 snooker table with 2.25 balls and then go to a bar box tournament.

Feels like a tonka toy table at that point.
