Who of the AZ'ers play regulary on this tour?

Can anyone please tell me about the format?

It seems to be 6 different categories; Pro, Open, A, B, C and D, with the Pro and Open players playing a 10-ball tournament, while the others are playing a 9-ball tournament.

I guess these are handicapped. How does this work?

How do you know what category you belong in?

I am planning to join the event the 16th-17th Jan, if I can figure out what category I belong in, and would enjoy meeting some AZ'ers :)

Thanks

Roy:

I'm not going to make DCC this year (as much I'd *love* to go) because of my hard-wired work schedule that will prevent travel. However, methinks I'll be able to make this Predator tournament which is local to me, and I would genuinely welcome the opportunity to meet you!

I'll have to check the specifics of this tournament, but I'm most likely an A player, maybe high B if something's bothering me subconsciously and I'm having a bad day. Again, though, I'll check.

Looking forward to the opportunity to meet you,
-Sean

Ok, will be cool meeting you, looking forward to it :)

I have sent some e-mails to Tony Robles, so I will play that weekend, just don't know which event yet, pro/open or a/b/c/d. Would be fun to beat a pro too :D

my guess is you belong in the A or B division but you'll probably rob the C or D division you nit.

I am willing to try my luck starting in the D division and work myself up the ladder. If I do well I can play as a C next time I go to New York.

Good luck NN, hope you do really well in your tournament. Win a lot of $$$$$ so you can cover bar tabs the following week.

Excellent idea to spend a little time somewhere else in the US while you're here for DCC. If you only had time for one other place, New York City is the first place I would have recommended. Good call!

From my understanding Tony is a fair judge on the player skill levels and puts people in their right divisions. Im playing the stop on the 23rd and 24th. Ive never played in a Predator event but since im a little out of shape (get it) when it comes to my stroke Tony will probably put me in the B division.

I've heard really good things about the tour itself so i'm looking forward to it. That and i have a lot of family and friends that live in the NY area so hopefully i'll get to see them aswell :D

Waitaminnit Sean, didn't I read somewhere that you posted that your high runs were something like 8 racks in 9 ball and 5 in 1p and 114 or so in 14.1?? Taht would put you in the "pro" category, or at least "open", unless...

Roy,

The Predator tour is going to have a slight format cahnge for this year. There will be an open division that plays 10 ball and an "A,B,C,D player" only division that will play 9 ball. The rating that you receive will only determine how much of an entry fee you pay. The tour is still unhandicapped for actual play. The only wrinkle is that in the ABCD event, A's and B's play in one brakcet and C's and D's play in another, until the hot seat match. At that point, the A/B hot seat player will play the C/D hotseat guy for the true hotseat. Basically, the A/B's and C/D's dont get lumped back together til near the end of the tourney.

Well now, *someone* seems to be either trying to rub my nose in it, or is still hitting the bottle even after New Year's celebrations have already subsided. <blows raspberries> :p :D

As for what capabilities determine what category player, different folks have different impressions of this, depending on their locale (what may be a "B" player in some parts, is seen as being an "A" in others). I'll present the data and let Tony & crew decide; that's what that "I'll check" stuff was about.

Regardless, I think it'll be fun!

Assuming that the eleventy zillion racks run number you stated is correct, NOWHERE is that considered a "B" player. :o

Eric, are you sure there will be no handicaps this year? They did use them last season, only for abcd events.

Actually, I don't know for sure, it's second hand info. I can call Tony or maybe GG will chime in here...

Hi everyone! Hope you all had GREAT New Years! :)

This year we'll be running two events simultaneously.

Open/Pro event:

Open to anyone with the staggered entry fee as before, thus:
$100 Open/Pro
$75 A/A+
$60 B/B+
$50 C/D
$40 Juniors

It's a 10-ball tournament though using rules similar to the WPA rules (call shot/call safe) with some differences. No handicaps in this tournament -- everyone plays even up and it's a race to 9 on both sides with winner breaks/rack your own.

Also, the Open/Pro event doesn't start till 2 or 3 pm, I'm not sure. :sorry: Sign up closes at 2??

Amateur Event (ABCD Only)

Again staggered entry fees & sign up closes at 11:30 This is a 9-ball tournament race to 7 on both sides, alternate breaks/rack your own/9-ball spotted if dropped in bottom two corner pockets.

A and B players play at the top of the chart while C & D players play at the bottom. The two charts meet up in the Semis. It is handicapped so if a D plays a C, D gets one game going to 7. (No plus/minus rankings)

Hope this helps! If I missed anything, let me know!

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Since a D gets 1 game when playing a C, does this mean that a D gets 3 games if playing an A in the semi?

Are both tournaments played on 9ft tables?

Thanks for the clarification, GG!

WPA 10 ball rules- http://www.wpa-pool.com/index.asp?content=rules_10ball

*edit-GG, will the entry fees be adjusted for the different levels in the 10 ball open, or is it a flat $125 for all?

Eric

Hi Eric- Open 10-Ball tourney is $100 for Opens and Pros, $75 for As, $60 for Bs & $50 for C/Ds. We have some people that still want to play in the Open event and play with the Pros so we're letting them play at the staggered entry fee rate. The $125 entry fee is only for the Seminole Tribe of Florida Empire State Championship in September at Raxx.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Are both tournaments played on 9ft tables?

All tournaments on the Predator Tour are on 9 footers.

If a D plays an A, the D gets 3 games going to 8.
If a D plays a B, the D gets 2 games going to 7.
D plays a C, 1 game going to 7.

Looking forward to seeing you at the tourney Roy!

Anyone able to tell me the easiest way to get to the tournament this weekend, from Times Square?

Where to play pool today?

Roy, I usually drive to Raxx Billiards. If you are planning on taking mass trasit, there is a train from Penn Station (34th and 7th ave) that goes to West Hempstead. The poolroom is a few kilometers past the Belmont horse track. I believe the train gets you close, but you may need to take a bus or taxi to get from the train to the room. http://www.mta.info/lirr/html/lirrmap.htm

More info here:

http://www.predator9balltour.com/schedule.htm

As far as Pool rooms, assuming you are taking the train to get around, go buy a "Fun pass", which is an unlimited day pass for the subway and bus. You might want to try Amsterdam at 11st and 4th ave (Union Square). It's a nice room, has good equipment, but not much as far as action goes. If anything, it's an easy ride from Time Sq. Just take a "yellow" train downtown to Union Square, get off, walk a few blocks south to the room. Easy.

Welcome to NYC!

Eric

I think you will need a car for this one, unless there is a bus that goes there. You can try calling raxx, 516.538.9896....but public transportation sucks on long island.

If you want a game, I am free to be victimized today.
