How do I sign up for this?

Over the past couple of days, I have left a couple of phone messages, and sent a couple of emails, but no reply yet. I'd really like to get in on this, and would like to make travel arrangements (from San Diego) and hotel reservations (any suggestions?).

Who do I need to contact?

HELP!!!

Thank you.

Funny - I'm attending as well, and I quoted the exact same price to someone in my local pool room when he was wishing he could go too...

See you there!

Secrets Never Before Told.

To all of the AZBers who will be attending the school:

Besides getting all of your equipment in order and bringing an extra shaft, you should be deciding on a method of transportation for your cue.

The most important thing that I would be bringing with me to this class is a SONY ICD-P520. It is a small but capable digital recorder. You could record most if not all of the conversations that take place by placing the reorder on the pool table. Best Buy sells them and they're not that expensive. Carry a few extra batteries and you are good to go.

You should use the digital recorder to personally re-record your important points gleaned from the school while it is fresh in your mind.

The camcorder with tripod would be great to have if you have the room.

Don't forget to record those never before told Filipino Secrets of banking and kicking that the Filipinos are known for. :)

Have fun.

I cant believe some of you!!

Some of you have the arrogance to actually comment on the cost? Shame on all of you who made ANY comment on it. Especially you Scott Lee. As a matter of professional courtesy you shouldnt make any about what ANYONE charges!

Why should people Go to the Predator Pool School rather than get a lesson from Some other people or through gambling.

1) They learn or already know that they arent good enough to really gamble.
2) What shot they shouldn't being taking because it will cost them the game. this becomes costly as they keep taking the same shot. The best solution? Get the LESSON from a pro, who can show you the shot and explain to you why
3) A unique opportunity to learn from World Champions!!
4) BBQ at Toasti's
5) To Finally get the correct answer to the ever popular question...."What would Efren Do?" !!!!!

5) To Finally get the correct answer to the ever popular question...."What would Efren Do?" !!!!!

This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Personally, I am not criticizing the cost of this instruction at all. A class with Efren, Francisco, Toastie, and Tony - how do you put a price tag on that? In fact if you have an opportunity to learn from these players and you can afford it, go for it. My position is that the students should realize that they are not going to be able to learn everything in one lesson with the instructor - no matter who the teacher is - just keep your expectations realistic and above all else - have a great experience. Just understand that there are no quick fixes - magic teachers - or hidden secrets to becoming a great player. You have to work your ass off to get better at this game. $1500 and a few hours with Efren will only scratch the surface to what you have to to do to apply the knowledge he will pass on to you.

I'll address some things that have come out of this - especially since I have received criticism on and off the forum about this.

First, I'm going to clear the air about the criticism I got for mentioning this -
I have offered to provide this school with some free material on the mental game - and that offer still stands. I have a degree in psychology and I have used that over that past 15 years to develop effective training programs designed especially for pool players. Charlie, I can mail this material to The Dome - just have Thorsten or Dan get with me to provide me with the address. I am not offering this to intrude on this class or to market myself or anything else - or to try an be part of this to satisfy my ego. I am offering this in support of ALL of the instructors. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Second...

For those that say that you can't learn as much from me or from Scott & Randy - your loss, not mine. You have a better chance keeping your options open when it comes to searching for knowledge. An open mind is a black hole for knowledge and a closed mind is a brick wall to knowledge.

Overtime I learned that teaching is not the dissemination of information; it is the guidance and direction towards the application of acquired knowledge. Teaching is not something "everybody" can do.

I base the success and effectiveness on the achievements of my students, not myself. To do otherwise would be unprofessional and inconsiderate on my part.

Teaching is what I do, I have gone to school to teach, I also play pool and teach pool professionally. I earn an honest living at it. I spend a lot of my time developing new teaching methods and learning material - sometimes I work 18 hour days. I put my heart into what I do.

Also...

Dismissing credibility or effectiveness of my instruction based upon my skill being measured against Efren or Toasti - that is ridiculous. I am in total agreement that the players involved in this school play better than me in competition - no arguments here - but I am a professionally schooled, trained, and licensed to teach more than just pool.

I take offense to anybody saying that my class would be less effective than anyone else's. In fact it intentionally sabotages my livelihood - and that effects people in my life that nobody here knows. That is unfair - and inappropriate to imply - especially since I am in support of this class.

I am glad to see that these championship caliber players are willing to share their knowledge. I consider Thorsten and Tony friends of mine, they have a great knowledge to share with everybody- and they really are good people, excellent communicators, and I respect their playing and teaching abilities immensely. I hope they know that - if they don't - I just said that.

Let's get back to this class being about the students that will benefit from it. In the end the student's experience is much more important than the that of the teacher's.

Jean would have run over Alli in any era. Most have no idea how good she really was.

You are entitled to your opinion but shouldn't express it quite so boldly IMHO because you have no basis upon which to make such a statement.

MAYBE Jean was better in her day but there is no reasonable basis to suggest that she would have "run over" Alli.

I know Jean personally and can tell you that she thinks the whole "who is better" debate is silly.

Regards,
Jim

Sorry, but I don't think there's much substance here.

Here's someone else's with far more facts & substance, imo:

I saw nearly all of Jean's career up close, at least from 1976 and on. In fact, if there are five people alive that saw more of her matches in the World championships live than me, I'd be surprised, and I've probably attended close to 50 WPBA events in which Allison Fisher played. Yes, Jean has the higher title count, but the competition was weak back then. In fact, the typical field size in the women's World Straight Pool championships was eight back then, and I've got the programs to prove it. Jean was an exceptional straight pool player, but consider Allison's one straight pool endeavor at the 2000 BCA US Open 14.1 Championships. Allison won the high run prize and in the final against veterna straight pooler Loree Jon Jones, she dominated, gettng to 100 without missing a single ball. You'll never convince me that Allison couldn't have played straight pool at least as well as Jean if she wanted to. Still, Jean gets the nod in straight pool. To my knowledge, however, only three current BCA Hall of Famer competed in any of those events, and that would be Dorothy Wise, Loree Jon Jones, and Ewa Mataya Laurance.

Jean won the lion's share at nine ball in the early day's of women's nine ball, but not against tough fields like those of recent times. Allison's 50 titles in an era in which women's fields were far deeper rates as far, far, superior to anything Jean accomplished in competitive nine ball. Allison won her titles in an era in which a) current hall of famers Loree Jon Jones, Ewa Mataya Laurance, and Robin Dodson, b) near certain future hall of famers Karen Corr, Vivian Villareal, Jeanette Lee, and Belinda Calhoun, and c) potetntial BCA hall of famers Ga Young Kim, Xiaoting Pan, Kelly Fisher and Jasmin Ouschan have been in the mix.

Many choose to deify Jean based on her exploits against men, but such accomplishments are irrelevant. Allison opted not to compete against men, but Karen Corr, who has won about half as many WPBA titles as Allison, has had great success, including multiple Joss tour titles, competing against men in an era in which men's fields are far deeper than ever before. Does anyone doubt that Allison would have surpassed Karen's resume in men's tournaments if she cared to?

Yes, Jean won sixteen consecutive titles at one point, but taking the competition into account, to me, Allison's eight straight WPBA titles in 1996-97 represents the most reamrkable achievement in the history of Women's pro pool.

Jean gets the nod in straight pool, Allison in nine ball. They are the two greatest that have ever played women's pro pool. Nonetheless, this comparison is about as close to a dead heat as you can get. I simply refuse to give one the nod over the other.
