My wife said she likes a stiff longer shaft and a hard tip with adequate diameter, whatever adequate means.
Something about stoke being more important. But she doesn't play pool, so I ignore her. I don't think she knows what she's talking about.
Surprised you didn't mention how long she likes it to last.

I always used Kamui hard on my wood OB and 314 shafts. When I went to the Revo, it had a soft tip and I didn't hate it, but didn't love it, either. I switched to medium and it has just been ok. My tip had a blowout on Tuesday on the Revo, so I grabbed the 314 with a hard tip and couldn't believe how soft it felt. And I loved it. Not sure what tip to put on the Revo now.
Kamui Black Hard was the only tip that I found to be too hard. It was expensive to have installed and eventually I had it replaced.

I use Kamui (M) for years but i would like to try a soft, guys in the pool hall i play say soft is better i might give it a try .In the late 60's and early 70's we just grabbed a cue of the rack and played nobody cared about tips now at 73 yrs old i don't think i should worry to much about it.

'guys in the poolhall' are often full of shit. ;) Seriously, if you're used to med's i doubt you're gonna like a soft. Worth a try but i've only liked maybe a couple cues with softs on them. Med-to-hard for me.

I've played with a Kamui Black Soft for 15 years and just had a hard put on another shaft to test. Doesn't make any sense to me, but I really like it. I switch back to the soft and hate it. Trying a medium soon before I align both shafts with the same tip.
Changed my vote to hard and I'm still confused. Have Kamui Clear Black Hard on both playing shafts now.
The hit is so solid without feeling bouncy like a break tip. Most surprising part I think is it's actually helped with my speed control, especially on soft shots (which makes no sense to me...).

My two playing shaft that I use frequently have a soft and a hard. I like both but they do have their differences.

I also have a water buffalo on a cheap cue and the old timers would tell me they haven't used that since the 1980's. LOL

You make total sense to me. You’ve described why I prefer stiff cue shafts and hard tips. It goes against pool hall lore. I don’t have a super stroke that can draw a cue ball two table lengths. But to me, that shaft/tip combination makes me feel more connected for how I expect the cue ball to respond. I find the greatest benefit at slower speeds. KCBH was too much for me. But if that’s your preference, good for you. Those tips should last a long time.
