During opening ceremonies prior to the Daytona 500 NASCAR race, the president
of the United States did NOT even bother to offer a civilian salute.
ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL !!! I suggest he attend Citizenship classes.

He otta get an Art. 15 for not saluting! An absolute disgrace!!
A fellow American n proud of it!

I don't see how this is related to pool. However, since the thread is here, I might as well comment. What do you expect out of a guy that represents only 10% of the people in this country? He put our troops in danger and they're getting killed at 1 or 2 a day and for reasons that are not clear to this day and against the rules governing the UN. Given all that, he hasn't given our troops a raise in pay yet and he's been trying to cut veterans' benefits damn near ever since he's been in office! I wish the "moral majority" would wake up and smell the damn coffee!!!!!

Nice post Rick. I would only say that voting Republican is the lesser of two evils. All politicians suck. Back to pool now :-)

Right on, Rick.

If I have learned only one thing in my life, it is that, turning a non political forum into a political forum can produce, at best, the loss of only 33% of one's friends.

The president is a civilian. He does not salute. Only members of the armed services are required to salute in uniform. The politicaly correct thing for him to have done was to put his hand over his heart.

Everyone should "salute" during the National Anthem. A "salute" by a civilian is putting one's hand over one's heart. That is the definition of a "civilian salute".

Also, the media kept reporting last night that Bush was at the race as a "NASCAR fan". Bush couldn't wait to leave and was outta there right after the first green flag. What a bunch of BS. He was only there for campaign purposes and he doesn't even have an opponent yet. DISGUSTING !!!
I wonder who he thinks he's kidding.

I'm almost certain he was trying to hoodwink Al Sharpton, but I could be wrong. I guess you think Kerry is the answer to our prayers, huh. Boy, are you in for a surprise. YMMV

I think I will PM SallyP and try to get YOUR 5 stars back Frank. You may be the only person who deserves them. TAP,TAP,TAP.

Interesting, the far RIGHT, ABC,NBC,CBS and PBS didn't even report this happening. Try and find it anywhere. Goes to show you, Hillary was right. It's ALL a RIGHT wing conspiracy...........LMAO.

Hey Troy, Do you think you would utter those words if you were at Daytona?

There were 200,000 people there who paid at least $100 for their seat. $40 for parking. And they loved the Pres.

When the anthem was being sung I don't even remember seeing the camera on President Bush. It was on the singer. And she sure did one hellofa great job. You have to admit. But in the past I have noticed that the President has the utmost respect for our Country so I think you are full of it to bring this up.

Oh, and when you hear all the Politicians talking about our bad economy - just think of Daytona and how much money our poor, weak economy spent here.

The Secret Service dictates the moves of the President and they are on a tight schedule. It is common for all Presidents to show up at an event, make an appearance, and depart.

President Ford came to my graduation from College, said Hi, and left. That is what they do. Any deviance to preplanned moves gives the Secret Service members ulcers. President Kennedy drove them nuts.

the president is technically not a civilian. He is the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the United States. he MUST be saluted by every member of the armed services, from the lowly private to the highest general or admiral. So therefore i believe he should have stood at attention and saluted, or atleast put his hand over his heart in respect for the flag and what it means. Otherwise go hide in doors where no one can see you............mike

You say you are from Canada, how would you like it if I come on your board in your country and insult your prime minister Paul Edgar Philippe Martin. If I began to call him names. That sir would be very rude and uncalled for. May I suggest what you did is that. Worry about your own leader, leave ours alone, butt out. How much support did you give GB in the 2nd gulf war, how many troops did you send over there to help while we keep you safe and cozy sitting all on top of our border. Why does a guy need 4 names, even our biggest red necks down south only have three.
