Pressed Triangle Tips or Layered Tips?

Hi,

I like to ask if its advisable to used a bench vise or vise grip to pressed either a triangle tip or layered tips for so many days before installing to the tip of the ferrule? So as to feel the touch and power of the shaft or a cue? Also what tips do you much more prefer to used between these two?

Thanks a lot.

It matters how MUCH you press the tip. If you put it in the vise and crank down on it until the outer edge is 15mm+.... its going to be very hard and "pingy" sounding. If you press them just enough to flatten the crown, it will be more consistant (you wont have to find a good one per se) and wont be feeling like a notch under phenolic.
Tweeten has changed the manufacturing process somehow, where the triangle tips are different than how they used to be. Im convinced they removed/lessened a pressing operation somewhere in the process.

how do you guys tell if a triangle tip is good or not? what is the most consistent non layered med-hard tip?

if i take a cue to someone and tell them to put a triangle on, are they going to just put one on or make sure its a good one?

how much more expensive are layered tips typically? concentric circles of glue concern me, consistentcy and non miscuing is what matters for me.

What you can do is take a ball peen hammer and place the tip on a hard surface, like the flat part of the back end of your vise and give it a couple of gentle taps. Or a couple of not so gentle taps, meaning, a medium hit but not hard enuff to knock the vise off the bench.

I put some Triangles in the driveway and park on them overnight.
I measure their thickness and I like them compressed by 30 thou at least.

Ive always been able to tell when you go to trim the edges, if its flaky, just pop it off and try again.

dont do this......unless you want a break tip

You ain't wrong! lol I put an Everest into a vice for 3 days before putting it onto a buddy's I-Shaft..... He doesn't try to masse' anymore, but he's sure trying to figure out how to stroke a ball from the center.....lmao (He SAID that he really liked super hard tips and that was all he could play with....)
I'm going to put a Moori on for him this weekend, but it sure has been fun to watch him trying to figure out what's been going on!
And pressing a Triangle to go onto a Predator= not so good either.
A little bit goes a loong way.

But if I'm not putting a layered tip onto one of my cues, Triangle is the way to go. I've never found a cue that didn't play great with a Triangle over pretty much anything else. That's generally my first choice anyway.
