Would you enjoy playing at a private club more than a public place ?

Or do you enjoy the 'social aspect' or 'being seen' more than privacy?

and speaking of private clubs - i only know of one myself. [IBC] are there more private billiard clubs out there? (in the U.S.)

why is there not more?

These places are exclusive, and the cues and balls are mainly for snooker. :D

Many condominiums have billiard rooms, (mine has two 9 ft tables) in effect, private clubs. No travel, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I suspect that all the billiard supply companies aren't surviving on the business from pool rooms, but from home installations. So, with far greater accessability to pool tables, the demand for clubs or pool rooms decreases.

GOOD - that's how many of them are in Germany and I miss them. I had a key to one of them and it's a different atmosphere when you can control everything and don't have to fade the pool room scene.

I still like the pool room but it would be nice to have a private club as well.

(I have two pool tables, maybe I should start one)

Private clubs are pretty cool andI belonged to a private members snooker club when I lived in England. However as Groucho once said "I would not want to be a member of any club that would let someone like me become a member" I concur :)

I've been toying with a private pool club (cigar smoking allowed!) and the numbers just don't work (with or without the smokers). In the end it just makes sense to join the Elks, VFW, etc.

Our club house a nice 4 table room. Also has 4 star personalities. I would enjoy a private club or upscale pool room where every member has to sign an agreement to abide by the rules of equipment and behavior etiquette.:lol:

I have belonged to a private club that had pool tables among other amenities and I thought it was great for many different reasons. AND I enjoy playing in public rooms too. The public rooms offer a different clientele but the atmosphere is the same in each place........pool attracts a certain type of person...... I love it.

There are many private "clubs" or billiard rooms in the club houses of gated communities everywhere, many in the Palm Springs area alone. To this you can add billiard rooms located in country clubs.

I run a private club, small monthly membership. For those that do not have to drink while they play find it worth the fee. Open 24/7, mostly pool tables, but we do have one billiard table. At least for us, like it or not, have to allow smoking, otherwise, we would not have enough members to pay the rent. If you are looking to just play pool and generate enough money to pay expenses and keep up the equipment, it is a pretty cool deal. There is no profit in it.

I have been a member of both private clubs and also clubs that were part of public pool room. As far as playing goes, I very much prefer private club because playing time is cheaper in the long run and you don't have to put up with a lot of crap that goes on in public rooms sometimes.

However, for private club to work at all, even if you can cover all the expenses comfortably with just a small monthly membership fee per person, you still need 100% of integrity from all people involved, i.e. owners, founders, members...etc. This is absolutely vital. If there's any animosity at all amongst the players or the owner is using money in a non transparent way (to put it politically correct:grin:) then the club does not have much of a future. That's the story of my club unfortunately.

I play in a private club, a very nice one indeed, at least it used to be, but it is all going to hell. The founder/owner did not pay for the rent and electricity for several months back despite being paid member fees on time. He did not appear in the club for three months now!!! He owes a lot of money to a lot of people, including some to actual club members, appears to be broke even though he claimed to be a millionaire (I was naive enough to buy that stupid story). Nobody pays anything to him anymore, there's no confidence anymore. The funniest thing is that the tables that we play on are his on paper, but he tricked the real owner and paid only about half the price they are worth (of course using borrowed money from someone else). So the real owner of the tables has been chasing our "president" for money for more than a year now. But there's nothing he can do as the real owner is from another country. Ouch! This is just a very short version of the story...
