Pro darts is still better than pro pool

In every measurable way. The Crowds are really good! TV coverage is too in Europe.

Way more money vs pool and no pro dart player questions if it's guaranteed or not. They are dealing with Barry Hearn.

There is in actual World Championship of Darts that means something. No "quibbling" over the rack.

It's a 1.5 million British pound tournament with "unknown qualifiers" that pushes the World's Number One into a first round tie breaker with no losers bracket.

Just today.

More people watch the Super Dull every year as well.

No money there though, lol.

Pool is one of the greatest games in the history of games. It's been around for hundreds of years. It was popular before TV was invented.

Good for you, I hope you get to spend all your time in the dart forum in 2016!

Just wasting your time here, didn't you read one of the many threads, pool is done.

"Pro darts"... lmao.

It seems funny, but the laugh is on pool. The European darters have professional leagues and tournaments that pay good money. Its big entertainment there because of how it is promoted. The money being made by outfits like Ladbrokes ensure it will continue to be promoted well. ;)

I just watched the first half of that....most boring thing I've ever seen. How do they get so many people to show up?

I just can't take darts seriously. Watching players walk into a bar with their cute little dart cases just cracks me up. It's almost as boring as watching tonight's Democratic debate.

Darts and maybe curling look to be the only sports/games where one could drink and compete at the same time. Where do you get those little dart cases? I'm changing games, pronto.

Pool is a sport though and darts is not. For me watching darts is about as entertaining as watching someone knit a blanket.

Once again the only reason darts can get the tv time is promoters and advertising. If the manufacturers of pool and billiards products would put more money into advertising the sport might actually recover from the bad stigma associated with it and become more popular.

Remember that is Europe, not the US. Comparing darts to snooker would be more accurate. They BOTH outperform US pool in sponsorship, spectator ship and of course revenue. I enjoy playing darts and can watch it. I love playing pool.

Lol. Darts isn't a sport, eh? Phil Taylor... One of the best players ever used to play 8 hours a day solid to be where he is. What defines a sport? If darts isn't a sport pool certainly isn't. Both require no physical fitness and both have no advantage of being genetically gifted such as having great reactions, speed, strength. They are heavily based on technique. They are finesse sports. Making a 180 is far tougher than making a 3 pack. A 9 dart finish requires more precision than a 147 imo. I played darts to a very high level as a kid but chose to go down the snooker path. I've made 147's before but couldn't ever dream of making a 9 darter. The skill required is ridiculous. Looking back I wish I had taken darts more seriously. The money involved today is insane.

Free booze? Lol
Boring as hell to watch.

Darts has been on free to air tv for as long as I can remember, many pubs here in the UK still have darts boards (although less than a few years back) and virtually none charge to play (they work on the basis if you're playing, you're drinking).

With that in mind before Barry Hearn waved his magic wand there was always a semi-decent following anyway, however over the last few years he has turned the PDC world championships into almost a Christmas tradition in the UK.

Yes the drinking is a large part of it, but some of the matches, especially in the latter stages are great to watch. Even as a non-darts fan surely you can appreciate the precision these guys work to when trying to hit triples, doubles etc. Throw in the pressure for a pretty large paycheck, world title and you begin to see why it's so popular.

From a pool point of view it's such a shame the same hasn't happened with the world championships....maybe one day...but I believe for the first time the Mosconi Cup will be in the (much larger) Alexandra Palace, rather than the York Hall, so it suggests Barry still has hood things planned for pool too :-)

The dart world championships in 2020 will pay the winner 500,000 pounds or almost three quarters of a million dollars. 300k pounds this year.

The world number one almost lost to some kid yesterday (500-1 betting odds) and the thousands of fans were cheering the kids name as he almost pulled of a miracle. The pace of the game and enthusiasm of the spectators is something pool will never be able to compete with.

I love all billiard games, but only snooker comes remotely close to darts in popularity. When the Mosconi Cup gets over 5000 fans to dress up and sing songs, I'll believe its getting anywhere near the popularity of the game.

I don't think darts is a better game, but its obviously better suited for attracting crowds..

Hell, I'm a three cushion player. I watch videos of absolute masters playing incredibly and there are 20 old guys in the stands. I love one pocket but even one pocket players realize there is no way in hell anyone would put it on tv. Half of the nine ball players I know don't even like watching straight pool or one pocket.

Don't leave out horseshoes, one of the best drinking sports.

Jarts is not a good drinking sport....

Might as well throw in Cornhole and Shuffleboard while you're at it...although I'd rather play those two games than throw darts.

Whatever floats your boat dude.

LMAO. I'd rather watch paint dry regardless of what the prize money is. :boring2::boring2::boring2::boring2::boring2::boring2:

Darts isnt any more a sport than pool

Nothing athletic needed, how else would fat and old guys play for long periods of time

No ones sucking wind
Smoking and drinking while playing soccer anyone?

Give me a break already,
