Pro Play Wooden Triangles

The black composite Diamond racks, imo, are best for the $$.[/QUOTE]

I've never used one but they get good reviews. It's just missing the clunky wood sound while racking that us old timers remember

My Delta 13 sound does not bother me but then again I am not one of these people that shoves the rack back and forth 45 times over the racking area after they have the rack loaded. Im not sure what people accomplish by doing that. I love the Diamond wood rack that (used to?) come with the tables but what I am curious about is how do you keep the head ball from sticking to the rack in warm, humid weather? In the summer on many nights you can see the head ball stick to the triangle and pull the head ball forward when removing the rack.

I was having troubles in a tourney with this one night. I watched the guy I was playing rack and he kept the 1 ball out until the rack was all pushed up tight, then slipped it in and snuggled it to the others before pulling the rack up. It worked pretty well most of the time.

I don’t do the rack shuffle either, it irks me.

Also had anyone used a wooden rack without a back to it? Just like an inverted V.

FWIW....any video production is enhanced with variations of sounds. The gathering of the balls is distinct. If your doing the dishes with your back to the TV....duh. :) and the racking sound stops you know it's time to turn around.

I don't think these are quite what you mean (I was in 1st grade in '67 so plastiv had already taken over at least on coin op tables when I started playing) but they have a very satisfying feel.

Found them 15 or more years ago on Ebay. I suspect whoever made them is long gone but if you ever see one...buy it.

One year the old Open used the Delta metal racks, and boy what a racket they caused. Ting ting ting, going on constantly. Too much noise for my taste, and they switched by the following year.

Easily solved issue...…...

IMO the Delta 13 is the best triangle out there today. Mine has the leather inserts installed to deaden the sound. They are available from Delta. I have yet to see a wooden rack that works as well. I like the sound of wood as well, but I like a tight rack even better and the Delta 13 delivers there. :D

Can anyone here still rack the balls proficiently without any rack at all? Just rolling the balls up with your forearms and hand formed in a V shape....now that's old school Boy's Club. :)

I can do it but Diliberto was the best I ever saw at racking with his hands.

I couldn't agree more with your comments on wooden racks. I bought a nice wooden rack from a local guy named Bill Westley at the super billiard expo a few years ago. His racks are a little pricey but worth every penny in my opinion. They give a super tight rack every time and are truly a work of art.

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered one after checking out their site.

My only concern, do they have room for your fingers in the bottom of the rack? If there is no finger room to seat the bottom four balls for playing one pocket or 14.1, that's a deal breaker for me.

I think it has plenty of room for your fingers...mine has exactly 1/2” of space between the back edge of the balls and the inner side of the rack

I pulled this off of his website:

Rack Specs: 11/16 inches thick, 1 3/8 inches high, 1/2 to 5/8 inch relief in back (which can be altered). All racks are triple-checked for assurance of a "tight" rack.

All racks are protected with a durable urethane finish.

No problem, I just bought one of the basic racks and couldn't be happier. When you get yours you'll see he takes a lot of pride in his work. All of the edges have a nice radius to help protect the felt. It's also made in the good old USA!!! For the record, I don't know Bill Westley or have anything to do with his business. I'm just a happy customer spreading the word;)
