Pro Pool players courting disaster

Come on man the apa, bca, vnea are in town and the pros can go pump up in action. I've never walked in a gym or arena and seen lebron james offering 8 going to 10 to play him some one on one. Still can't figure out why though.

Good thing the way them youngsters was crossing u up..

I agree with you 100%..Dumping (STEALING!) is a huge reason why not only Vegas wont trust the players but if Pro Pool ever had a serious meeting with Marketing Directors of for example..Verizon, any Beer Co., Ameritrade, Nike..whomever...who did their research on the potential of viewership for a TV Deal and also the potential pitfalls of "getting into bed" with a new industry / Sport..(revenue stream) they would learn about the negatives as well as is their job and find out the risks..the largest risk (and black eye to the sport) which is "dumping" and probably take a quick pass.

Not enough reward to assume that risk.

has nothing to do with Vegas trusting the players, its been state law forever that no book making on sports events in Nv except contact sports regulated by the NSAC. I have explaned this in great detail here, the NBA couldnt get book in NV, look up my old posts, i'm to lazy to type it again or look it up. or you can take my word for it, or google NRS Nevada Revised Statutes and do your own research , best eric

This is true..Very true..That's why it is virtually impossible to bet on Nevada college ball out there..Smart move obviously..

Didn't Know

Eric I didn't know about the Vegas thing, thanks..but the larger picture for me is the effect dumping has on the sport. How can you rebuild or re-brand to try and grow when players are known to exploit and steal from the prospective sponsors and/or tournaments.

And Mikey, none of them will be getting a $1000 a week. Uncle Sam will get his share first and foremost - something that a pool player is not used to when he wins a tournament for the similar amount. They will probably clear about $700 a week, give or take.

p.s. A lot of casinos will cash paychecks for an added convenience just in case there is a casino on the way home from the BB arena to the players apartment.

My guess is they pay them as contractors and issue 1099's at the end of the year. It would surprise me if they were employees of the company and BB withheld money for them.

So if it goes the full season a guy who doesnt make the play offs will owe about $6000 to Uncle Sugar.

But I'm sure guys will plan for that. What could go wrong?

IMO, they most assuredly will be 1099'd independent contractors with no taxes withheld. WPBL will be required to send a 1096 and detail whom they paid what, and the onice will be on the contractors (players) to fork over Sam's cheese. I wonder what % of players will be in compliance for that? :scratchhead:

But do realize they can expense all kinds of things against that income through the course of a year.

You are one Kool Kat!

Matt, the kat in the hat said that!

your right, it goes way past the Vegas thing, the dump thing is a huge problem, however the audience BB is marketing to dont know what a dump, chop or saver is.

The Hall/LeBron thing that most everyone refers to here-IMO was s fluke it made it on the board, and 2nd-for the Mirage it was peanuts. the Handle in the books is so big they forgot about that 2 hours after it happened.

Bingo, that is correct. I talked to the head of the book (a pretty famous dude whose name I forget right now) and he told me they didn't get hit for that much, just a bunch of $200 tickets that paid $4,200 each. I prodded him to see if I could find out how many tickets were sold. He said maybe a dozen. So they took a hit for less than $50,000.

Even then if you spent more than 30 minutes in the Mirage Sports Book (and I did!), you would either see or hear about someone who just bet "five dimes" (50K) or more on a game. That's one bet! So to the Mirage, it was like they lost one big bet. I keep thinking Jimmy Vaccaro or something like that was his name. He was the most famous book in town in the 90's.

jimmy sounds right, Little ceasars (nothing to do with caesars) was a little hole in the wall joint about where the Paris sits, they took huge action back in the day. I'm back soon and will aask Artie, he knows better than anyone. Cardone knows as well come to think of it, but i think Artie knows the best.the good days when the books gave you action-not a stick up!!

i was told it was around $40,000 is what they lost, = nothing for them (even back then)

I'm still not convinced 100% it was a dump, i just know the table was so damned ugly i couldnt fade that, forget the action. yuck!!!

Still how they got it on the board without gaming up their ass is what the real question is, Ballys used to put up political lines, Oscar's lines, and other new worthy events. but took no action on them, it was just entertainment.

LOL a few mite, most won't. and dont care. some guys do pay some taxes and more do get the write off thing, bowever i doubt their returns would stand up in a audit. For example food is only 50% deductible and they take 100%, same for travel.

Now with even more wonderful taxes they will be abusing that even more, i would if i didnt have a house, income property, cars etc. Looking back if i know what the future has in store for me i wouldnt have paid a dollar. but i was a total square and paid everything and then some.

Vegas and the 49ers

Last years Football Season I bet 2K per week, $1000 on the niners and $500 on two other games I felt good about. I was up 23k for the year after AFC/NFC Champ games (Bet 49ers vs GB for 5 dimes in Divisional which helped) before the Super Bowl..and then bet 20 dimes on the Niners in Vegas and blew it all..a special thanks to the Refs who didn't call interference or holding on that 4th down play in the end zone.

IMO too.

No way BBall is going to provide all sorts of employee entitlements and protect itself against the litany of management liabilities associated with 'employees'.
