the reason i feel pool is going down is because u have these tournaments that have 80 or 90 players paying $60 or $90 to get in and 1st place paying 700 to 1000 these so called directors are the only ones making any money when you have these guys making twice what 1st is paying then something needs to be done you have good pool rooms that have good paying tournaments and not taking nothing out. And i understand these guys have to make a living but there just robbing us pool players thanks just wanted to ask how other players felt
 
Punctuation would help.
Most TD'S are hard working men and women that are trying to bring something to our sport. They have to make a living, the room owner has to make a living.So there will be cuts taken out.Would you work for free?

Also, what if there were no tournaments for you to complain about? Would it then be that you complain that there are no tournaments to play?

Also, there have been a plethora of posts on the same subject lately. You may want to search and read some posts from other members.

The jacoby tour is a great tour to play. It has less players usually and pays out just as much as the other events. It is ran very well and no one is barred from it. Meaning if you win you have something to brag about.

we had 63 people and with the calcutta first place was almost 4 grand pretty good i think, but i do agree with you most tours the td seems to keep way to much money
 
I wasn't big on tournaments when I played, not even bar tournaments. If you won one that was the end of your easy action for 10 sq miles.

However, with poolrooms going under right and left now, wouldn't it be wise for the rooms that were big enough to put on their own at least once a month? Even if the room only put up $500- $1,000 added and just took a green fee out they might add a few new players a month to their room. If 25% of the rooms did it it would cut down on gas, motel, and other expenseses.

I'm sure it's not as easy as I'm making it sound so please enlighten me. No tour owners though:smile: . Johnnyt
 
Pool tournaments pay out too many places. They should do like poker does and pay out only 10% of the field.....

Some rooms can run their own tournaments and some can't. I've seen people adding a lot of money put all the byes in the same bracket, and pros look at the chart and not say a word about it. If it were my room I'd want an outside director to run my tournaments so I wasn't accused of favoritism.

Getting the tour scheduled and happening is probably more work for these regional tours than running the tournaments. If there were easy ways for rooms to schedule and publicize tournaments in cooperation with other rooms then they could hire a director and maybe not pay for all the other work.

Well, the kind of tournament you speak of around here, Ks,Ok,,Ia, Il., this would payout at least $2,000 for 1st place plus calcutta, which would be at least $1300 for 1st, and that is for $50 or $60 entry fee. The Midwest 9 ball tour, run by Evelyn and Danny Dysert (excellent TD's) pays this out all the time in their events.

I understand that pool room owners have to make something. This is for sweatnbettin. I own a pool room and have ran many of my own tourn. My tournaments were $50 entree, no green fees, and gauranteed $1000 for first. If you get people to come that's where you make money, not giving it all to the directors. Why should they make $1500 or $2000 or more in some cases? Who deserves that much for running a tournament. That is not the u.s.open or dcc the directors that do this know who they are. I will not bring up there name. Thanks for your comments and by the way these tournaments are in ga tenn sc nc and ala

I just try to recoup the expenses I have into the events thats all! I dont charge room owners a penny to run it other than free pop and a meal a day for staff running the event.

I do all of the set up, advertising, recruiting of players and begging for sponsorship money to add the always 1500 added to every single event. The room owners just make money by having extra people around and the players get paid for showing up, i try to pay1/4 to 1/3 of the field.

I do this to improve the image of the sport and to help players with talent make a living and also bring live streaming video to pool lovers! I do it because I love it not to become rich! I have others things Im working on to make a living but not these events.

Not all TDs charge a lot but if they do, I have to say that I can see why in a sense because these things are a lot of work and I spend much of my time working on these events. I just choose to do them fo rthe love of the game but making a living at it isnt wrong either. Just another opinion.
 
Like i said in my earlier post i understand a director making something for his or her time it is a lot of work. But when the people make more than 1st pays then something has too be done and the only ones who can do anything are the players .And too all the good directors out there keep up the good work. And if u just ran a tournament and u made more than 1st place paid than u know i am talking about u

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT EACH OF YOU DO FOR A LIVING??AND THE ONES THAT OWN A POOLROOM!!! BUY ONE AND SEE,OR START A TOUR!!!IF YOU DONT WANT TO PLAY SET AT HOME!!THE T.D. The players are putting in all the practice at a chance of winning some cash. This is a living for many and a gamble for a living at that. From what I have seen on here the TD's are not on here asking for someone to back them so they can compete against other TD's and win the TD job and $$. The are getting paid and too well. If they loved the game and doing this for that reason, they would say cover my expenses. The only people in this for the love of the game are the players. It will remain that way until millions or even an above average living is available. It is an easy well above TD's regular pay cheque money maker. That is why you have so many little tours and $1000 1st events rather than $50,000 or $100,000 1st events. There must be 20 tours on the front page... every month they hold events and the TD is prob getting $1000. That would be a $20,000 monthly event... Anyone want to play for extra $20K. Personally I think it is a rip. I don't care who they are or how much experience they have. Get a computer program for the draw and tracking and give the players a $100 to sort the problems them self... you still wouldn't pay $2000 that a TD sometime charges and the players would be happy making $. Everyone in pool wants to make money and some are, I believe the wrongs ones.
 
If it is so easy, then why dont you do it yourself? Most people just see the TD come in, draw the matches, run the event, and go home. Let me assure you, there is much more involved. The before and after, is what none of you see, the road work, the phone calls, the advertising, the time spent putting it all together.
It is very simple, if you feel that the TD is making too much money, THEN GO HOME!!!!!!!!!! But if you want to play in a well organized and professionally run event, step up to the plate. Knocking everything is what is bringing this sport down, not the guys trying to make a living providing events to the world.

Why thank you Stick. Most of the pups on here don't have a clue, and I am too lazy to bring them up to speed. I am semi-computer illiterate, and don't know how this posting thing works, so as soon as I find out how to give rep, you have some coming.
I don't even know how to make new paragraphs but am learning fast. Maybe you played in one of my events over the years?

I ran tourneys where I live for about 8 years, and did enjoy it most of the time. I was paid hourly. I never took one dime out of the players purse,
even when I ran a big weekend Open Tourney.
There is a tremendous amount of work to running tournaments. I dont blame some TDs for paying themselves for their hard work.
People that criticize, obviously have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what it is like to run tournaments.
BTW, I doubled as a day care service. LOL (just teasing)
Even though there were problem children, the good ones always made it a great experience for me.
There were many polite classy players that made my TD days a total delight for me.

I'm still waiting for someone to ***** about TD's playing their own tournaments, another can of worms that one is.

So if a percentage of the pot a fair compensation or should a TD get paid a flat fee, if so what is a good number?

As long as you have a helper, I dont see any problem with TDs playing in their own tournaments. I played in all of mine and I was lucky enough to have a helper(volunteer) to watch the board while I played.(most of the time it was my husband)
I think TDs should get a flat rate from the house, so the players money is not effected.
2 day open tourney - 100 per day
weekly tourney - 50 (with a field over 25, which takes about 5 hrs)
