Im looking for some feedback on how to deal with an issue I am having. I bought a cue from ebay. I paid paypal for the item and sent the payment 1100.00 to a verified person. The person gave me positive feedback on the purchase. He said he shipped the cue priority mail on 5-15 and that he insured the cue for 1250.00. (he bought no delivery confirmation). I called him several times and he called me back several times. I called the post office several times and he said he did also. He said he will send me a copy of the post office receipt by fax tomorrow. Today, again no cue. My question is how do I proceed. He is located in Indiana and Im in Illinois. Mapquest says he is about three and a half hours drive from me. Im my opinion the pony express would have had it here days ago. Im looking for the best way to either get the cue or my money back. If I could time travel, I would go back and calcel the paypal. I cant afford to lose this kind of money. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Deacon

You most certainly are being lied to , nobody would NOT buy the delivery confirmation for 50 cents especially when that is the only confirmation to cover the paypal payment of which you can file a refund, do not hesitate very long efore you file a claim with paypal , do it now and if the package shows up then you can reverse it.

If you ship priority, with insurance, there is "automatic" delivery confirmation as someone has to sign for it.

First I heard of that , but you could be right , then this seller should have a delivery confirmation number at hand?

Regardless, sounds like the classic ebay stall tactic , "I will send you the PO reciept" .

be patient.

I think you should hold off any drastic action for a couple of days. It's barely been a week since he said he shipped it.

wait for the fax from him, then start enquiring with the post office.

Just my opinion.

When insurance is purchased for $100 or more, the buyer must sign for the package. The seller will have a Insured Mail Receipt with a 20 digit number on it. You need to get the number, and start your inquiry at the Post Office.

Ahhh, $100 or more of insurance gets a tracking number and signature, there you go DEACON , make him produce that numer so you can track it.

I was shocked to see a package actually make it my way after 19 days from the time it was shipped so anything is possible. Dispute it as item not recieved and have him refund you and then you can always resend payment if it arrives. But I'd give it at least 2 weeks to get with you. Just don't wait longer than that.

If he can't produce the Ins. number I'd be taking a 3 1/2 hour trip to see him in person. I can't wait until they invent a computer that you can shoot through.Johnnyt

Some good advice here that is right on.

1. Shipping Priority, you get Delivery Confirmation, but Signature Confirmation costs $175 more. However, once you pony up for the Insurance, Signature Confirmation is included. You should have had the package in 2-3 days, but, honestly, I have even had a $2500 cue shipped Express Mail overnight guaranteed become lost only to show up 9 days later, so it could simply be the Post Office. I would get the insurance/confirmation number and call the Post Office, however.

2. You can certainly open a dispute with Paypal in the Resolution Center. They will immediately take the funds from the account that they were sent to and hold them in abeyance until a resolution is made on the matter, one way or the other.

I don't know why people buy cues on Ebay for over $200. I've heard more ripoffs than good deals from people in the poolrooms that bought cues from there. I bought one for a $150 on Ebay about four years ago. It said it had Mother of Pearl inlays. Turned out they were Mother of Plastic... The Mother. I just laughed. I thought I was geting over on the guy but..... Johnnyt

Deacon,

This may not be worth much, but it's probably going to be OK, so hang in there and don't freak out just yet. Work with the seller in trying to find or trace the package. The more you communicate, the more you will be able to tell if they are sincere or not. If you used credit card through payapl, report it to your card company if the package can't be located in a few days.

Likewise, since the package can't be located in a reasonable time, report it to paypal.

This has come up often enough. Unless stuff is sent registered or Express, the USPS is a bad idea. Priority mail is fine most of the time, but when it's not, there is a lot of uncertainty, especially with an $1100 cue.

Who's the seller?

Chris

This deal sounds very fishy to me. It seems if it was legit the shipper would be offering an insurance number (which also acts as a shipping conformation #), not some kind of receipt. If he refuses to give the insurance information or starts stalling around, look out... and act fast. Good luck.

My experience

I mailed some jewelry to a address about 20 miles from me. Insured and registered. After a week...no delivery. When I contacted the post office they told me it isn't "officially" lost until 30 days. Turns out it ended up in an Arizona post office, Tucson I think. The computer misread the zip code and routed it there. Took 25 days for a 20 minute commute. After that experience, I just assume incompetence is the main culprit. One week is not time to panic. You are automatically insured with Paypal anyway. Give it a month before you panic.

Get the # from the insurance slip. You can not track it on your home computer with that # but the PO can. After 10 days go to your PO and ask them to run the #. They will not do it for 10 days. If they can not locate it then file your dispute. Good Luck, I hope allturns out good.

My past experience, I made sure I paid by my credit card through PayPal.

When I was sure it was fraud, I called my credit card to dispute the transaction and also did a dispute through PayPal. PayPal only gave back minimal amount after the dispute closed due to no response from the seller. However, after providing documents after documents to my credit card company, they credited my account for the full amount less paypal reimbursement. So I got all my money back ... took some efforts though.

I make sure I use my credit card to pay through PayPal if I don't know the seller.

This might be a silly question, but what was the sellers feedback status? I simply won't do business w/someone on Ebay unless they have a rocksolid history.

I operated a Mail Boxes Etc for a few years. Let me tell you something funny, with the stress your under you need a good laugh. Lady comes in to store. Sending care package to son in college. Normal goodies, clothes CD's, cookies, gas card. Well I was operating a store in San Diego County. Said son was going to school in San Diego County. Mom tells me Im trying to rip her off with UPS because it is 3.50 more. More uses faithful USPS Priority(Which ALL Have tracking #) Son receives package 6 weeks later. Food is definately bad. Fruit has started a colony of penicillin and ruined everything mom sent. Now mom uses UPS. The worst/what I founf funniest is I offered to hand deliver for gas money as I was going to said school. The drive is 25 min in traffic/15 min without it. So the good old goverment agency needs new ponies. Good Luck. Ill cross my fingers you get your cue and get it in great condition. Id probably drive to his house too!!!
