Problems With Very Slight Cuts

Okay, i had this shot the other day to finish running a rack of 9-Ball. The cut angle on the 8-Ball was very slight, it wasnt straight in. I wanted to pocket the 8-Ball and follow up off the rail to around Point A for the 9-Ball. But i overcut the shot and missed the 8-Ball, hit it near Point B.

My problem with this is i was certain i had the aim down perfectly on this shot. my concern was more hitting it straight into the long rail as opposed to over-cutting and hitting it into Point B. which, of course, is what i did.

Anybody ever struggle with slight cut shots like this? and can anyone offer some tips/advice on how to aim at these type shots?

What Spidey said for making the shot. As far as position goes, you are asking too much of the shot. The only way to get to A is to miss the ball. Even if you pound it in the hole, you aren't going to get much off the side rail. So, knowing that, why even try to?? You don't need to. Just make the ball and follow down about half way to the pocket. That still leaves you a very good shot on the 9. Even if you are on the rail, you still have a good shot on the 9. Quit asking to much from the layout you have. Work with what you have.

Ok, look, the diagram probably isnt PERFECT. but if i would have hit the CB at 12:00 it would have followed up to around Point A on the actual shot. So perhaps the diagram isnt perfect but i was just trying to give the general idea - not to recreate with pinpoint accuracy on a wei table.

my whole point was not to ask about position, but rather that i have trouble aiming on these very slight cuts. i missed the same type of shot a couple of days ago too. it looks perfect to me when i stroke, but when the CB gets down to the OB then its off by about 1/4" and i overcut the OB.

So your using throw to make the ball?

No, it's actually a cut. You're arcing off the CTC line with the hip pivot which creates a very slight cut angle. You do get some outside spin because you're striking to the right of center; however, it's not the throw that pockets the ball.

If you align CTC and pivot 1/2 tip from your bridge at the pivot point of your shaft (spin only), you'll prob miss the shot.

Your eyes are wrong. Gene from perfect aim could help.
