Proper way to orient bar rack?

I always wondered why they didn't put the flange on both sides

You'd save the cloth, it would be more ridged, it would be easier to lift and the edge would be radiusd on both sides to lift easier without hitting the balls when tilting.

But what do I know?

The extra flange would prevent the rack from being ejected out of the mold when it was manufactured.

Well, they usually rack pretty bad either way.

Mismatched balls don't help either.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I love barboxes, and box 8 ball is one of my favorite games, but those crappy little racks make me seriously think about buying a decent hard plastic triangle to carry around in my car. Although, that would only benefit my opponent, as most bar players don't attach any significance to a good rack.

Pool is a tough enough game without having to fade substandard equipment.

Or you could just use a regular rack, not a bar table rack.

Wood racks are not allowed in the local bars here, as they could be used as weapons. All bars in my area have plastic racks.

And I always rack flange down.

Are you playing with Nerf balls too?
Cause there are 16 6oz cast phenolic balls, and they are WAY worse than a wooden triangle in a fight.

lol ...what about the 20 or so wooden clubs hanging on the wall? Or the shank that can be made in .3 seconds with a broken beer bottle?

LAWS! Let's make more that have no validity!

Y'all are completely wrong. The flange is there to aid in spinning the rack in your fingers after lifting the rack off, proving to all the other d-bags that you're d-baggery is superior and shouldn't be messed with.

Done correctly a true alpha d-bag should be able to spin the rack about nine times in two seconds. A man like this will rarely find his match in any bar.

Every alpha d-bag knows that this is only able to be accomplished with the flange down.

BTW, this is level four d-bag behavior. Level one is learning how to hit ever ball as hard as possible, level two is spinning your pool pole like the midget in the movie. Third degree is pounding the hell out of the lead ball every time you rack.

DoubleD-bag you are correct! Without the flange, there is way too much friction on the rack and the Alpha-d bag must resort to a basketball type finger hold to get the need revolutions. Sometimes the Alpha-d bag will wet his fingers with the beer he just placed on the felt to reduce frictions even more. Provided he has completed the back row "pop the eight" with the thumbs technique first. It must be a complete d-bag show.

Oh, I forgot the wink to the girlfriend and the finger gunshot to the breaker. Also important moves.

Out of so many topics on the forum, this simple little question has provided some insightful information. I was going to make a comment on how silly it was to spin the rack after taking it off the balls, but then realized, that once in a while I do it, oops my bad, but what is with setting the eight ball on the other balls and letting it drop into place when the rack stops? I don't get it. All the players I have seen doing it are just your usual banggers.
