Proposed TAR Match

Justin, consider a Earl Strickland vs. Mike Sigel TAR Match. Say best of three 14.1, 8 Ball and 10 Ball. I know Mike and Earl were considering playing an exhibition Match recently. Mike was at Champion Billiards in Frederick all week. He might be game because he is promoting his new GPPL league.

Just a thought...let me know what you think!

Also calling on all AZ members to say whether they would be interested!!!

Thanks

Of course! I'm afraid that Earl would slaughter Sigel. I don't say that because I respect one over the other, but nobody can deny that Earl is on a mission lately, playing at an extremely high level. Sigel has been away from competition for too long and must be very rusty. I would love for him to prove me wrong though! Edit to add: Earl may have an agreement with Steinway that prevents any matchups elsewhere.

Mike might surprise, but on paper and recent playing time I don't think he could get there against Earl. Johnnyt

Remember that time when JCIN of TAR said something along the lines of "never again" concerning working with Earl?

He's a dynamic player, and fascinating to watch when he's steamrolling his opponents. I just don't think we're going to see Earl on TAR again.

Justin has stated, on MANY occasions, that he is not interested in dealing with Earl again.

Methinks you would have better luck getting BigTruck or POV to present this. (Or Mark Cantril, neither of those guys are under contract, are they? :p )

Who knows, maybe Justin has softened his stance, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Maybe Sigel vs. Varner, or vs. Rempe, or vs. Hall.
Or Earl vs. Reyes.
But Sigel is probably a little too long away from the fire to be a good match for Earl right now. Certainly would have been a dream match to see when they were in their prime.

Check out Accu-Stats...they've matched up MANY times already, when both were "in their prime". Personally I think Earl is capable of playing at the same level still. Not so much Sigel. jmo

My Rationale

Earl will win the 10 Ball...Mike will win the Straight Pool...so it will come down to the 8 Ball set and whoever has their break working will win the 8 Ball. I have watched Mike play at Champion Billiards over the past 2 years as much as anyone and if folks think he is not a top notch straight pool player as well as a very, very quality 8 Ball player they are wrong IMHO.

I think Earl wins 10-ball and 8-ball easily and Mike wins the 14.1 easily.

I don't believe Mike is a top 8-ball player. He showed little form during the IPT, which featured 8-ball on the old nappy cloth that Mike grew up on. That was seven years ago!

Doubt I'd purchase this if it were a TAR event.

We agree on 2 out of 3

Thanks for the reply but I still think at the level Earl and Mike play the 8 Ball comes down to who is breaking better!
