Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

We believe it would be more exciting to play Earl, Johnny or Rodney 'Two Shot'

That is the WHOLE purpose of this post...whether it is for "big" money or not.

I want to see the game. :)

We believe it would be more exciting to play Earl, Johnny, Dennis or Rodney 'Two Shot Shoot Out'.....I'll get ahold of them and see if they will come down here and play soon....we will have it streamed (we will get television involved soon) and make some DVDs explaining the game in vivid detail.

We almost have this documentary to the point that will free up some of our computers to do some other project....maybe we can do a 'Two Shot Shoot Out' video, just depends on how much time we have to spend on the new Billiard Club details.

it's effective "whistles and bells" for the entertainment synergy that must.......

I watched pool on ESPN when it was on. Some of the longer games were cut down so it looked like a different game when they came back from commercials. That spoiled the entertainment factor for me. I think editing a two shot game down for TV would end up looking like a best of reel. You would loose getting in the flow of the game. Some people would like the ADD format but I wouldn't like a chopped up two shot game just to squeeze it on TV.
Cameras and production technology has improved dramatically since we put on all the ESPN events in the mid to late 90s. We can now put cameras on the pool cue that are so small they can hardly be seen. What a perspective though, to be able to see the shot from the cue's perspective.

.....of course we had the "pocket camera" even back then. We now want to figure out the way to put the camera on the player in such a way that it isn't seen by the viewers, but can give the players visual perspective.

This still isn't the "magic bullet" that we discovered, it's effective "whistles and bells" for the entertainment synergy that must go into a successful Pocket Billiard show.

Yes, it's a shame, but the older player's mentality was to keep things hidden from the regular players so they could capitalize off them. I don't blame them, it's been done in many other businesses and is evident on Wall Street and ventured capitalist's investment opportunities......they have an advantage and it's only valuable as long as others are kept "in the dark". I decided to change this pattern and dedicate 3 years to try to change the game into something more marketable....that could be used as a marketing vehicle like other sports have become like NASCAR, and Texas Hold-Em.

The same thing is being done with 'Two Shot Shoot Out' - this game brings out the best shot-making, safety play, strategic decisions, touch shots, long bank shots, long cut shots, shots off the rail with power/finesse, etc......and the best player will win over the course of time by wearing their opponent down using the shots I just mentioned. The "roll outs" are also very strategic and sometimes the player will reposition one, two, or three other balls on their roll out....and for good reasons that may not be apparent until two or three shots later.

One Foul ball-in-hand is another story. The shots are mostly random because the players can't place the first shot to set up the best situation available on the table....this is what is done every time when a champion player rolls out....we know where that shot is and what all the percentages are to make it or get safe...or a combination of both at the same time......every ball on the table is involved in this formula and it's very complex, however after many years of playing our minds start to show us the correct shots and why.

The absolute best way to play "Shoot Out' is to require a "roll out" on the first shot and I will explain exactly why in the near future. Many of the greatest point can't be explained in writing effectively, they most be demonstrated and explained at the pool table......you can either believe that or not, I would recommend you keep an open mind and at least give me the benefit of the doubt.

My background consisted of playing this game for millions of dollars over the course of 17 years, and we won over $300,000 a year, three straight years and no one could win playing this particular game.... we played everyone that would gamble. I'm not "bragging," these are just the facts and many of my road partners can back these statements up including "Strong Arm John" who is considered one of the best "Road Men" in history.

I would certainly vote for him, as well as Weldon Rogers, Buddy Hall, Vernon Elliot, Omaha John, Allen Hopkins, Nick Varner, Doug Smith, "Country Calvin", Reid Pierce, "Mike Johnson", Dalton Leong, and Rusty Bandimiere....all of these players were extremely advanced at 'Two Shot Shoot Out'....we traveled, played, or was in at various times with all of them playing for exorbitant amounts of "chips".

My agenda for promoting this game is simple - It's vastly better than the current game being played and no one finds the current game mentally stimulating. 'Two Shot Shoot Out' is more like poker where you can "DARE" you opponent to "Shoot or Pass" and that's what makes it so much more interesting.....

No matter what, the people that truly want Pocket Billiards to be in the public spotlight again will support the most entertaining game.....this should not be negotiable, I understand everyone's right to an opinion, but this is a "no brainer". 'The Game is the Teacher'

This is great. This type of entertainment is needed! Loved the rivalry between the sexes in the audience. WHen you drew and broke up the two ball cluster at 7:30 but go hooked, hearing all the women together going "aaaawww" was priceless! When Vivian ran the previous rack, the crowd was loud!

Yes like many have experienced, the path to success is filled with "bumps" and bruises. :D

Making the necessary changes is difficult to understand until we get the "magic bullet" part of the equation. Poker was the same way until they started showing the "hole card" that was their "magic bullet"....pool has the same scenario, but it has nothing to do with the speed of the game....it took almost 3 years to figure out the formula, and brainstorming on this forum certainly helped.....it take every step in the path (even the bumpy ones with thorns) to get to the destination.....it's a journey, but the map is not the territory, the experience is. :yeah:

I just had to except that the time wasn't right.....although sometime it would be!

Thanks, that match was a lot of fun, excitement, and a nice amount of money too.

That production has almost all the components - we know now that if there would have been the right people in place (like the ones that developed Texas Holdem) they would have figured out the other qualities - to make this even more popular with main stream America.....but it was not meant to be (at that time).

We had a lot of momentum at this time and it was just a short time after this that we did the 'Million Dollar Challenge' and that's when Earl did the unbelievable and messed up out whole plan.....on one hand I was happy for him to do such a tremendous feat and win the money ... on the other hand I knew it was going to mess up the 12 tournament TV schedule I'd been working on for several months.

At the end of each day I just had to except that the time wasn't right.....although sometime in the future it would be - and it may take 17 years to get another chance.

We've got the wheels in motion now.

and we are @ $500 @ <2 hrs!

.

We've got the wheels in motion now....should get a response from them this weekend.... our producers really like the Mosconi Cup team this year.....they have the right look and personality.....with the addition of Corey and Shannon Dalton (for obvious reasons).

Personally, I'd much rather watch a 2 shot push out 9 ball than 8 ball; as would I believe, most serious players; however, SJD makes a valid point with his contention that John Q Public can identify with and probably would prefer to see 8 ball for the simple reason that he wants to see pro's play the game he plays and John Q has never played 9 ball.

Here's the thing: There was a guy working on the house not long ago who saw me practicing in the basement. After he finished his work he decided to take me on in a game of 8 ball.

I let him break. He managed to make a stripe on the break even though he had a horrible bridge and no decent stance to speak of. He was obviously a guy who had never practiced an hour in his life but likes to play when he sees a table.

So after he makes the ball on the break he proceeds to make 5 more stripes. They were all ,like, wide open 2 footers. I'm sure he wasn't planning ahead either. After he shot one, the next one just appeared before his eyes. Finally, his last stripe is a wide open three footer and he missed.

If he had made that ball, he would easily have run out because the 8 ball was 4 inches from a pocket. He ended up with the cue ball touching the middle of the end rail and I came back and won.

So, as I said, SJD has a valid point. I can also understand how the pro's might feel they're not showcasing their skills sufficiently enough when they play 8 ball and how frustrating it must be when a player with clearly lesser skill beats them with simple luck.

Notice they are not playing 500 rummy their playing Texas Hold'em that yes is a fast moving card game that has strategy and yes a degree of luck where the best don't always win and lesser players have a chance to win and that's why it's so appealing
Sounds like another game I know

Yes, 'Two Shot Shoot Out' has all the same aspects of poker, but people will only "real eyes" this if they've played both games.

Pool, Poker, and Pain was on to something and I admire them for trying to put the two games together......that was the "magic bullet," they just didn't have the right bullet for the chamber (so to speak;)) . 'The Game is the Teacher'

it's like watching two players taking turns "hitting the bag"..

I grew up playing 8 Ball and rotation, and while 8 Ball is a very popular game to play, it lacks the "magic bullet" that would entice people to play.

At the highest levels it's boring to commentate 'One Foul' there's not the right components to make it interesting (breaking, kicking, ducking, easy run outs with ball-in-hand, etc)......there's no "sparring" like in boxing and without that it's like watching two players taking turns "hitting the bag".:sorry:....people like the "hand go hand combat" that football, tennis, baseball and hockey bring out......the solution has always been "how do we bring this quality out in the game of pool?"

We've played several LIVE matches on ESPN and they all did really well. I played in 2 of them and the pressure was noticeably more than playing "Live to Tape". We could have continued, but no one pursued it after 1999.<--Gosh..I wonder why ???

Why is it, that you CANNOT comprehend why ?..ESPN (like ABC long ago) has almost completely given up on pool, as an attraction for advertising dollars !..Trick Shots, and the 'Ladie's' re-runs, are just used to fill dead air time !..It is shocking, that a person of your [sic] intelligence can't see that, and YOU think 9 BALL (ugh) will change all that !

I was going to "quote" all your posts, beating the "2 shot 9 ball drum", but in checking back over this thread, I may not have time enough above ground !..(and that's not counting the hundreds, from other threads)

Since you, (and many of your supporter's) seem to have the attention span of a 'gnat',... I have decided to simply furnish a link, to one of MY posts, in which I detail why you will NOT be able to effect ANY change at all, with your "short-sighted method !..Obviously you, and your minion's, have forgotten it, (or missed it) so here is the way things really are ! (STILL)

You are funny, Sir....and I do respect older people because that's how I was brought up and I've spent a lot of time around the "seniors" in the pool hall where I grew up.... you are so clever to throw propaganda at me and anyone with an open mind that thinks pool can change.....how precious. :joyful: Did you work for Monsanto? Why are you so determined for pool and it's players to stay oppressed.....does it give you a feeling of "revenge" or something else?

Only the naive' would think that "TV" puts things like pool on TV....it's people (promoters) that put sports and games on TV, and unless they think there's a huge benefit ESPN would not get involved.....and these days there's no huge upside obviously....that's what we're determined to change......and I predict we will because I work with REAL PEOPLE, not fantasize about "TV" suddenly waking up and saying "you know what's not on my station? Pool, pool's not on and I want to go investigate it and see how it can happen"....(Matt Braun is the one that's been putting "Challenge of Champions" on ESPN for over 20 years.....is he the only one that can do it? He's a Western Writer, and doesn't even have a TV background for goodness sake)

This is fantasy indeed, TV doesn't care what's on as long as it makes money, like a bar owner doesn't care what beer, wine, or whiskey it carries as long as it makes them money....and liquor representatives are the ones that come in and sell the "Newest, Latest, Greatest" products........who does this for the "Pool World"? That's right, no one......and the results are obvious in this respect as well.

How many TV events have you done? 0? And you speak with authority. LMAO!!! That's like someone that's never been out of Kansas trying to explain the ocean to someone......what a humorous man you are.....gotta love your spunk though.

It's really cute that you think the future of pool is your lawn and you insist on telling everyone to "Stay Off"!~!! I've not laughed this much since I Joe Rogan told me about how he got his start in the Men's locker room.

This was my original pool mentor that ran the three table pool room where I grew up in Green City Missouri. I started visiting the pool hall when 7 years old and had to stand on Pepsi crates to reach the table. Orrin took me under his wing and assured my mother I'd be safe and he'd make sure I just played pool while in the building. That wasn't much of a task, I loved that game and it become a big part of my life.....it was my sport, my escape, and yes, the game was also my teacher. Thanks, Orrin for all you did for me, RIP my friend, you will always be a part of my pool career and I'm sure you would have been pleasantly surprised to witness the journey the game has taken me on......and now it continues.
