Push shot with BIH?

If there was a push out allowed with ball in hand -- BUT THERE'S NOT! -- there are cases where it could be useful. Suppose your opponent fouls on the break and you have ball in hand and a push out possibility. There is a cluster that you have no good way to get to. You call a push out, move the cluster apart and leave the cue ball behind a ball. Your opponent passes and you shoot a jump shot to the one and run out.

But the rule change is very, very unlikely to happen.

something like this perhaps? with BIH from the break, this would suck.

-s

Take the BIH, jump the cue ball with a draw stroke over the obstructing balls, pot the one, and pull that sucker back through those obstructors to get on the 2... :D

LOL, thanks Bob. That's exactly the example I posted earlier with the WEI table.:D

You might play this shot whether you had BIH or not if you didn't think the other guy would get out. A lot of the time with great players they will push out and try to tie something up since the pusher is usually at a disadvantage. This is the opposite. The pushing player figures to make the jump. But if the breaker takes the shot he probably will just foul again anyways. So, whenever the pusher gets back to the table he will have an easier run out.

If this were the position after a scratch on the break, I don't think this push makes any sense here. A good player not wanting to do anything chancy against a weak player makes the one and plays the cue ball below the three. Then the breakout of the three and a snooker can easily be executed at the same time.
