be careful,i know they say that they do not remove wood, but i found that not to be true.on my shafts they definitely removed wood.i quit using them b/c of that, which was a bummer b/c i really liked the way they made the shaft feel for a few hours.after a few hours it was back to normal.
i have found nothing better than a damp rag or a rag and a bottle of alcohol if one is handy.

Agreed, the Q-Wiz is nice. I have one I got when I got my viking a few years back for free. Still use it today, a little worn but it works. The OB-1 booth were giving them away at the SBE or so I heard. Maybe if I'm lucky they will include one when shipping me my shaft!
The gritty side removes quite a bit of wood.... that's why it gets white.. the white is sawdust... so to speak. To me it feels like 400 grit sandpaper.
It's not necessary to remove wood in order to get the shaft clean and smooth. Clean w/alcohol and burnish with leather. I have a little bottle of 90% alcohol in my cue case. It's in an old Visine bottle. On rare occasions I have to use a few strokes of 2000 grit but never anything rougher.
Get your Q-wiz from Muellers @ poolndarts.com and while you are at it buy a bottle of Shark Oil. It is the bomb for cleaning your shafts. Clean with shark oil then burnish with the smooth side of the cue wiz and it will feel like new.
