Qualifiers This Weekend in CA and Taiwan

I live in orange county which is a drive from victorville, but I do know of the players who are playing in the qualifiers, and they are very good local pros, but until the IPT can get some stability you just arent going to see all the best players from the area gather in these tourneys. And im sure its like that all over the country and world as well. Also 2000 bucks isn't chump change even if these guys play for big money all the time.

No, $2000 sin't chump change, But I can't see ANYBODY would risk one thin dime on the IPT. The IPT is run by STIFF ARTISTS!

the flipside of this situation is that you will inevitably get some people, who think it's worth the risk entering a qualifier. say the IPT doesn't fold - winning a qualifier would leave them in a pretty rosy position then.

rightly or wrongly, that's how some people will think.
 
These

look to be 'rescheduled' qualifiers only. Notice the numbers are 27,81, & 85, and higher number qualifiers have already been played. Also, you can not click on them to see the player lists.

Can anyone in the Illinois area tell us anything about Pro-Tyme's Billiards qualifier this weekend?

I see Ho Casinos is still being advertised on the front page.
 
Unbelievable

Anyone willing to pay a fresh $2,000.00 entry fee for a tour that has stiffed the entire pool industry, and literally does not even exist, I completely cannot understand? I think that it's totally bizarre and unbelievable.

Can anyone offer a rational explaination?

It looks like these have already finished, there's no online coverage but the "past events" page already shows the winners. Perhaps there were only 2 entries in each?

Perhaps all the players still showing up for IPT qualifiers have won a free entry by coming in close to the top in previous events, or winning a local prequalifying tournament? Or they just booked and paid online months ago before the whole Reno debacle and can't get their money back.

Also if memory serves these are NOT qualifiers for a 2007 IPT tour card, but qualifiers to qualify to play in the 2007 Qualifying tournament to qualify for of one of 50 available 2007 IPT tour cards made available by cutting the bottom 50 2006 IPT players (Sorry Bernie!). Seems weird to charge the same $2000 for only a chance to win a further tournament to qualify for the full tour, where the same $2000 was charged to win a full 2006 tour card.

But of course if there's never another IPT event it's all moot, to all us cynical AUSCFANSY* members it's just KT trying to grab as much cash on his way out the door.

Setting aside for the moment all aspects about whether the IPT is effectively dead or not...there's actually nothing that weird about what you refer to in the above highlighted bit.

What may make the 2 years appear so different is that you are not comparing apples with apples.As regards "$2,000/- cards" in 2006 there were only 10 surplus cards which became unexpectedly available at a very late stage shortly before the first event started and apart from any other aspect there was only time available to run 5 x "$2,000/- entry" tournaments to get those 10 card winners (it actually cost next to nothing for the other 140 members to get their 2006 cards as they were awarded not played for).

However as regards 2007 there were always going to be 50 cards made available as part of the basic annual tour qualifying structure so of course there would be more entrants and a more tortuous qualifying procedure.

Understood. So (as you say putting aside the future, or lack thereof, of the IPT) what still seems odd to me is that usually you have a pyramid structure in sports tours - Entry fees get progressively higher as you get closer to the top level. You start with local tournaments with low entry fees (say $100) feeding into regional tournaments with medium entry fees. (Say $500) Then the regional winners go to the big national (Or in this case International) tournament with a high entry fee (The putative $2000) to compete for the full Tour cards.

The IPT has basically just drawn a line at $2000 no matter what. Initially this was to publically declared to be to ensure only serious players stepped up. In the light of Reno and no tournament dates for 2007 it seems purely to earn the most profit in the shortest amount of time. Clearly they have little or no interest in growing and developing the sport from the bottom up.
