Hi!
On saturday I played in the team tournament. I was playing 9ball leading 8:5 in the race to 9. I broke the rack, two balls went in. There was dead combo 2-9 so if I pot the 1 ball I would definitelly win. 1 was quite near the corner pocket and cueball was near the opposite corner pocket near that 2-9 combo. To hit the cueball I had to stroke over the 2-9 so I had to use rail to put my bridge hand on. Now the funny part: I couldnt get firm bridge due to the fact that I could put only my little finger on the rail, the rest of my fingers would rest in the pocket opening!
So I was thinking for a while and all of the sudden I got an idea. What if I put the chalk in the pocket opening to have something to rest my index finger on!? I asked TD and my opponent - no objections on their side, they couldnt find any rule that would be against this so I proceed with the shot with the chalk under my index finger. I was able to pot the 1ball and 2-9 combo respectivelly thus winning the match.
So question is easy: was it legal? Once there was no objection by TD or opponent I felt free to shoot but what would be the call? Was it abuse of the equipment or not? I know WPA banned Earls finger extenders but that was equipment NOT approved for tournament play. Chalk is definitelly approved equipment.
