Question about Gambling

I played a guy the other night it started out friendley just 50 a set.
We play for 6 hrs and im 700 winner he told me im not wuiting till im even so I just quit then.
Is there a rule you have to let someone get even or did I miss something.
Just wanting a few comments did I do the wrong thing or should I have kept playing.

P.S. he got pissed when I quit.
 
well if i were a gambler

and i am i say lose it like you won it! 50 a set in this case! if you want to double it then go ahead but it is your call! i always let them shoot at me so i will try a parley if you will! im mean it was his money let him fire at it if your comfortable with playing for larger stakes!if not tell him win it back like i won it from you! there are plentyof days and let him play you the next day if all else fails!:D
 
Anyone with 1/2 a brain should only gamble what they can afford to lose.

He would have gladly taken your $$ I'll bet. He gets mad...........BOOHOO.

People will get on here and tell you that you have to keep plying as long as the other guy has money.....I disagree. You quit when you want. If he doesn't like that, too bad. I have always said that if you want to play until someone was broke, just play for it all in one set. If you say $50 a set, either player can quit when they want and the other player has no right to complain.
 
If I felt like I would continue to win, i would be happy to continue playing as long as he had the money. Make him post it up!!!
 
Up Front

Discuss everything up front when betting. If not, there is always opportunity for disagreement. I played a strong regional player a few nights ago and everything was discussed up front; wager, length of session, spot, racking, when to post. This usually makes for a good action game.

Some pool players have some unwritten code that if the down guy wants to continue at the same game you should give him the chance to continue to play. If you quit because you had to leave or couldn't play late, give him a chance someother time to play the same game. I personally would never quit the game completely if he is willing to keep loosing at the exact same game.:D
 
i like what you did quiting because he said you couldn't that is. but if you'd have kept playing you probably would have made a little more
 
No matter how much $$ I have or how much time , I ALWAYS say before we start I have to leave in like an hour if that's ok. Then I stay if I need to or go when I want.
 
If you have your opponent 10 bet units stuck and you still havent busted him, your not betting enough.

This is the only way to gamble! Doesn't mean there still won't be problems with idiots out there. But still the best way to start of a match.
 
Dude bottom line is you played for 6 hours. You gave him ample oportunity to win. It aint' your fault he's a slow starter. I would have continued till he was busted, and then given him a 20 if he agreed to pull his pockets inside-out, and walk out of the pool room with his head down.:D
 
I try to let everyone I gamble with know how long I will play before we start. Not how much $$$, but time. This way they cannot be upset if you have to leave. If not, you should offer to play him the same way the next day, before you have a chance to spend too much of the money.

I believe it is somewhat rude to quit winner, but sometimes there is no way around it. Like most have said, bet till you bust them. The last couple times that I won a game and needed to go I told my opponent we could play later or play one set for half. This way you are not the bad guy. They can agree to play later or choose to have a chance to get half their money back, or lose 50% more.
 
If I beat a guy out of 700 for 50 a set you couldn't keep me from playing till he quit. Thats flat out pounding someone. Also 117.00 an hour is worth my time. If he didn't want to adjust or do something stupid like play double or nothing(unless it was the nuts) I'd play and play and play. I might tell him to raise it to a hundred though.

Wouldn't you still be the bad guy if you only let him win half back? Isn't that still "rude"? That is why I think it is okay to quit whenever you want. I try to be nice about it, but most people won't let you, so screw 'em.

The offer I usually make is play for half OR play later. That way I either win at least half of what I have given my time for or play them later. Also the man asking this question never said that at any time he told his opponent he would be leaving at a certain time. This would make a huge difference.

I played a guy in a bar one night until 7 A.M. (the bar closed at 6 and they let us stay through cleanup). At 7, he told me there was another bar open 24 hours if I wanted to go. I went and played him until 9. At this time, he told me he was out of cash and his ATM card had dispensed its limit for 24 hours, but he would go to the bank since it was open if I wanted to play some more. He came back and I torched him again. With no cash on him, he said if I'd play some more I could come by his bar the next night and collect. I agreed as long as he covered my bar tab as well.
 
I say quit whenever you want. I've tried to do the "right" things before and got robbed (literally) afterwards. The way I look at it is "all is fair in love and war". I am not taking them to the prom so I don't really cared if I am perceived as a bad guy or not.
 
I usually say that I have to go soon, but I also offer to play X number of games for whatever amount would allow the guy to get even. For instance, I might have offered to play this guy 5 more games for $150 each (assuming he could show it, of course), or, if I had enough time, 8 or 10 more games for $100 each. I will never play one set for the full amount (maybe not even half, depending on the amount), though, because I'm not going to go hill/hill in a set and lose in one rack what it took me hours to build up.

Obviously, I don't have to do any of that, but I feel that it's the right thing do do, and I also figure to get more repeat business by offering that courtesy. Plus, barring any mounting momentum shift, fatigue, etc., I figure to win more than half of the next 5 or 10 racks anyway; we're both playing on his money, so I'm liking the game a lot more than he is at this point.

cripes. just quit whenever you want. given the details, no idea why you wanted to quit then, but it's part of the game. The only side I'd argue is maybe telling him hey man, 2 more sets and I'm out or let's play for what you'll play for another hour but then I gotta get out of here.

The other thing about down $700 @ $50 a set is the money better be on the lights by this stage.
