The difference between the "banger" and the decent player is knowing what to do.

The difference between good and real good or pro is......executing consistantly.
I know what to do, I just don't get it done all the time

Some of it may also be their unwillingness to be "branded" a banger, league scrub, nit.. what ever you wanna call it. league players get a BAD rap on hear many times by some folks. Not really sure why since I consider us all one big family with different priorities. Not to mention the HUGE contribution to the industry in terms of purchasing power, that is made by "league players" I don't know how it is in other places, but where I live neither one of our official "pool halls" could keep the doors open if they had to rely on the action hounds... just about ALL of their regular business is generated by/from/through the leagues

I think you are assuming there are players in league that can't shoot straight, and who have nothing to offer local level shooters.

I play in leagues and most tournaments around here and if I have a problem i fix it on the table by figuring it out myself or asking someone at the pool hall so I can actually practice it then.
I also think a lot of league players don't post on here because of they way some other people act towards them, so a lot of league players are just readers on here.

i think a lot of it has to do with the exact nature of the question. it's asuming league players play so bad we need to pander to non league players for thier help. i love using az a resource for cue info, tourney info, to learn about players and just get my fix on everything old and new in pool. i would never, however ask for info on actual playing here. i have been ridiculed, insulted and screamed at in bold capital letters for being a league player on this website and as far as i'm concerned most people on here can kiss my gigantic, pale white ass. arrogance floats through these pages like shot through a gun. those statements don't apply to neil - he and i have actually posted back and forth and pm'ed and he is one of the people on here who seems like a decent guy and would want to help some one. alot of others on here just seem like they want to run gums and insult anyone who is not a gambler. if i want to learn something i have plenty of people here i can ask and they can actually show me on a table.
I can hardly ever remember shots from a match. Otherwise I would.

The majority of the time, if someone asks "How do you, or What is the right way or What is the best", there are so many different ways to something it's ridiculous. There is no one best method....it's whatever works best for you.
Frequently, someone coming here for help could very well leave more confused.
Many times someone new here will ask for help and the answers range from.....stupid question, use the search function or that question has been asked so many times I won't comment on it......but they do take the time to post that they won't answer.

i think the tone of your op is also your answer in a nutshell. i found your post condescending to league players. basically your saying (and you can deny if you want to but it doesnt matter) that the only way a league player can get better is to post questions on here for A players (like yourself?) to answere. frankly for reasons already stated (getting flamed) i would never ask for help with a particular shot. also since i have no way of knowing most of the posters on here (you included) how could i be assured i was getting accurate advice. also i find cuetable a difficult medium to learn from. while i am a D player at best (and probably will also be despite hours of practice) i shot in league with several run out players who are always happy to help on a question or shot and since they can see me shoot they can help me understand whether my problem is how i planned the shot or how i shot the shot.
az is great for many reasons and i visit daily but to paraphrase grady asking questions is fraught with peril

I've been lurking for awhile (couldn't post as my account wasn't setup right) and now able to post, I'll toss in my few cents worth...
I'll agree with you that there is an "eleetist" mentality of a lot of the folks on here, even if they don't intend on sending that signal. The quality and notereity of a lot of posters here can be intimidating, especially in the main forum to someone who is new.
What I think would be useful is to actually have a forum (or forums) topic specifically for league players. Either have one for each major league (APA/BCA/TAP/Other) or just a "League Players" topic. That way the folks who look down on all league players as bangers can just ignore it and those of us who enjoy playing in leagues can participate.
Just my $0.02 into the pile....

Most of the better, stronger league players and just good players in general are always looking to improve....they watch other players, looking for shots and ideas, and they try to implement those improvements into their own game.....this isn't just pool, it's every sport I've ever played....it's especially true in pool and golf.....I think it's a pride thing

Maybe using the phrase "league players" threw some for a loop, since there are certainly players who need help who aren't league players. And at the same time, there is NO ONE here who is above learning something new about this game on any given day, regardless of their current skill level. Examination of sticky situations is good for players at any level, IMO.
So, we're all in this together. I keep coming across posts in so many threads where the original intentions look to me like they were misinterpreted.
Can't we all just get along!!!

I assume you're talking about APA levels? If you're talking about 9-ball, I'll agree with you there as it's 1-9. If it's 8-ball I'd say the majority of players are a 4 to a weak 5. It's a very small percentage of league players that are an SL7 in 8-ball or an SL9 in 9-ball in APA.

1) The ridicule leagues and leaguers get on here.
2) As someone else said, too many problems to list.
3) As someone else said, knowing what to do but just not being able to execute consistantly.
4) I know quite a few very strong shooters locally who are more than happy to help because when they were coming up no one would show them squat, enjoy the game for what it is and enjoy helping someone get better. One of them is one of the few shooters in the Baltimore area who Cigar Tom will NOT give weight to.
