question on diamond tables.

the Brunswick BUG bit me
Silver Member
Hiya all,

still looking for my table, so i went this weekend to check out a 10y old diamond table. now the table is used (id say its a 75-80%).

question 1:

the slate is a 3 piece slate. on there website diamond says they use a 1inch thick 1 piece slate... so im not sure its a diamond anymore. the table has the diamond logo on it, and it looks like a diamond, and the owner imported it from the USA 10years ago from loontjes. So did diamond change the slate over the years, or is this table a fake?

question 2:
Where can i find new leather droppockets for this table? the pockets are very very old, and id like to purchase new pockets. is this possible?

question 3:
the upperpart of the rails are used. the wood is full of scrachtes in the resin finish. I know a good wood artist, that is pritty handy with wood, and has workingspace. would it be worth to sand the finish of, (maybe even aply a stain to it, as i dont like the colour of the wood so much) and refinish it?

this is the table.

Any info or comments are greatly apreciated.

Hey it looks somewhat like a Diamond Pro but I cant be sure, try looking at my 9 ft Diamond Pro in the main forum pictures either listed as table under light or homemade light. The guys that installed my table last week said the slate on my table was 1 5/16 inches thick and they had fun taking it up 12 stairs in my house as each of the three pieces weighs about 350 pounds. I know if it is a Diamond it will say so under the skirts, each side or end was stamped with the model no and mahogony Diamond pro on mine. Hope this helps---Leonard

Solarjte,

I bought a used Diamond Pro about two months ago and had the same type of ?'s. My table looks just like that one. I sent my pictures to the salesman at Diamond and he assured me that it was a Diamond. The people at Diamond are very helpful and you can find the contact info at their website. Diamond is not nearly the size of Brunswick so it is unlikely that there are knockoff Diamond tables.

Regards,

Kevin

I reread your post and the one piece slate is the new Diamond Pro am like the IPT used and it is 1 inch, but the Diamond Pro used three piece slate that is over one inch thick maybe closer to 1 1/2 inches thick. Hope I'm helping some--- Leonard

Email your pics and questions to Diamond and I'm sure you'll get the answers you want. I have one with 3 piece slate and the pic you have provided sure looks like a Diamond. The 1 piece slate is what they use for their tournament tables.. I think it might be called the pro-am and the table shown is called the Pro.... like mine. They will also be able to tell you about the pockets. You could even call them. They handle calls on a very personal basis and you'd be able to talk to a real person who actually knows what he's talking about. I think his name is Brian... not sure.

While the table is torn down then why not have your woodworker friend refinish it? Sounds like a great idea as long as you can afford it.

Thats exactly what i was thinking too. now that the table is totally in bits and parts, it would be perfect to stain and refenish it.
Someone on the forum actually tried it too, but i didnt got an email yet from him to share his experience. I think the resin layer is pritty thick, and ill have loads of work to sand it all off. my woodworking friend will show how to do it , and assist me for free i think. Ill be the one doing all the hard work.

I dont got the $ yet for the ballset, table lights, etc so ive got time. its not like the table needs to be in place right away. i need to order several items too like cloth, cusions etc. first.

thx all for the info. i doubt it would be a replica too, as the guy who sells it, actually know the name of the only shop who imports diamonds. I have seen the diamond logo on the table too. just the slate made me think...

350 pounds each slate? WOW :) guess ill need more then 4 strong man... i live 15 stairs up too :D

PS EXTRA question:

Ive checked for new leather pockets, and it seems there are 2 types. #3 and #6. Anyone knows perhaps wich one it is? (i could call diamond, but it will be a hell of an expensive phonecall calling from belgium :D )

ive done some checking, and i could fully repair the table for around 500. so total cost: 1500 (if i can take of a 100 from the original price) + 500 =(k55 (30€), simonis 760 (180€), leather pockets (40€), bees wax + repair thing for the slate (10€), refinishing (??), aramith tv pro (120€) , staples, pencil for the lins, thing to taper the table, shims, ball marker, etc (100€)). that would be fit JUST into the budget (aka ill be broke :p but worth every peny !!!!!)

The pocket styles you mention are for antique and antique-style tables
and IIUC - would not fit your Diamond.

You might ask the question in the 'Talk to a mechanic' section
of the Forums. If buying the pockets directly from Diamond is not
practical, you might try to locate a local Leatherworker, they
are'nt all that difficult to make

good luck

Solartje,
Try using skype for international calls. I'm in south korea and use it to call home to america. www.skype.com . It costs only about $0.02 a minute to call the US from your computer if you have high speed and a microphone.

would something like this be good? i dont really need the upper part. that seems to be ok, its just the leather pockets that are all wearn down. i supose just for the leather sack , measurements dont matter?

arsenius: ive been saying to myself to install skype for over 3 years now,and never came to do it :) might be handy to install it now. thx for reminding me

Diamond prefers to sell you a 1-piece slate table, but if you have stairs and corner issues they still make 3-piece slates.

Mine

I have a Diamond that has a 3 piece slate. I am not sure how old it is, But it was used by the "old" PBT tour. I was told that Earl Strickland won a tourney at the Sahara in Las Vegas, on this table.
It now has new Simonis and it plays GREAT. It even has the PBT logo on the rail.

OK yes, Diamonds are notorious for worn out leather pockets
and, since all you need is the "baskets" the uppers are not an issue.

#5 - #6 refer to the Pocket IRONS<they are covered by the
upper leathers

Scince the table is apart, you should be able to find
a shoe repair shop that could easily attach the new webs
to your existing uppers

Answer to question 1: Diamond has always used a 3 piece slate in their Pro model pool tables, depending on when it was made, it's either a 1" slate, or a 30mm (1 3/16th") thick slate. Diamond has to date, only installed the 1 piece 1" slate in 2 Diamond Pro 9ft's...I know, I delivered both of them to Texas.

Answer to question 2: Call Brian at Diamond, or email him for new pockets. Diamond's pockets are not made by anyone else, therefore they are NOT available on the market to purchase except through Diamond. Brian = 812-288-7556 or bmiller@diamondbilliardproducts.com It's a whole lot easier to replace the pockets than it is to try and re leather them.

Answer to question 3: Refinishing the top rails is no different than refinishing any other type of wood furniture, it's just not that hard, someone in your area must know how to do that.

And last but not least...yes, that is a 9ft Diamond Professional in the picture you showed.

LOL...I found Diamond. I started out working as a consultant to Diamond, helping them develope the Diamond "Smart Table" back in 2000...the rest is history. There's a lot of customers that want Diamond tables that are not in Diamond's back yard so to speak, so I decided a long time ago that I'd fill in where Diamond couldn't...so, here I am...LOL, so I work for the customer first, Diamond second, myself third.
