I just got done watching the Racking Secrets DVD set again and wondered how many people here use the techniques while you are playing? For me, the techniques work really good (for a 9-ball rack).
Good DVDs Joe!:D

Hmm, sounds interesting...never heard of this DVD before. I know there are breaking patterns depending on where one breaks from. Where can I find more info abot this?

Thanks,

pip9ball

It doesn't show you how to give bad racks. It shows you where to break from if there happens to be a gap that you can use to your benefit. He also shows an order to always rack in. ;)

I read the section in the "great break shot" book and i found it pretty useful. I tried to teach some of it to soem of my friends that play okay. I really dont use it much when i find my sweet spot on the table. Now if i know the opponent is purposely messing up racks then i'll prob study the rack every rack. I do want to get the DVD too.

Yup, check every rack now, even if it ticks people off. I just tell 'em "It's a habit." It's worked well for me for some time now. I've showed it to a few people and they were surprised.

I dont see how someone could purposely mess a rack up if you watch them rack, They usually pull the balls tight with there fingers and ease the rack up.

The dvd isn't about how to give your opponent a bad rack.
Sometimes when there is a gap in the rack you can use it to your advantage.

LOL! Then you need to watch closer! Never seen somebody tilt the rack just a bit after you've broke in the nine? I have. Seriously, as has been stated, the book/dvd are about using sloppy racking to your advantage.

Joe packs alot of great information into those 2 discs. The 9 ball info really will help you if you dont mind looking at the rack and thinking a little. Some of the best info is in the straight pool break shots, where you have to think about the ball you will be contacting and how to try and get a shot after.

I have had this dvd for a year and it is like my personal bible when it comes to reading the 9 ball rack as I don't play a lot of 8 ball or straight pool, this dvd rules.

Is this DVD strictly for 9-ball or does it explain racks in other games too?

You recommended PSM to most of us and I am in the middle of reading it right now.

So let me return the favor, Joe Tuckers Racking Secrets is a valuable DVD to obtain (clearly you can see the results in the DVD over reading the book). I highly recommend the DVD but you have to be willing to do the time practicing the pattern recognition of racks and execution. It will take some practice but it appears you are willing to work to get to the next level.

There was a great article in P&B a few years back by Nick Varner about how to rack in 9b to favor a run out, or to make one harder. By no means was it how to slug rack, or tilt, or wet the wing balls.

on the same subject, I draw a complete line around my rack, and a line down the middle from the spot to the rail, and have a center mark on my rack to ensure the balls are exactly in place every time.

I have seen some serious rack mechanics in my time, using all kinds of crap to gain an advantage. Thats the problem with 9b, your opponent gets to rack the balls and try to become part of the outcome of your break. I like rack your own with your opponent being able to check the rack before you break.

No, it gets into 10 ball, 7 ball, 8 ball, 14:1, 15 ball rotation. I think it covers them all. More so on the gaps in the racks for 10 ball and 9 ball. It discusses how to use the gaps to your advantage. Which side to break from when these are present. How much angle to the head ball to break from based on the amount of gap between the balls.

Also has a lot of instructional material in the book. Very well illustrated and definately worth the money.

I have the book. I think it is better because you can take it with you to use for reference when practicing. This is also helpful when checking the rack against an opponent. You can tell when the gaps that he is leaving in his rack is to his advantage. We play alot of rack-your-own.

No matter where you buy it from though, tell them I sent you. LOL
