Racking with the Magic Rack

OK, I put out 30 bucks for two Magic Racks -- a 9-ball or 10-ball rack, and a separate 15-ball rack. After several days of practice on my home table, it still takes me at least a couple of minutes to rack 15 balls.

Using my last rack (Don's Rack) it takes me a few seconds, and the results are equal to any I've achieved that the other piece of marketing crap.

Anyone else feel like this? How the heck do rack with any speed with these pieces of ... well, I already said it.

Try the Slug Doctor or Tight Rack. You only need one template (never leaves the table and doesnt interfere with the game) for all games and it cost around 15 bucks... BTW Ive used the MR for both 9 ball and 10 ball with one template so you may have gotten hosed :frown:
 
Place the one ball on the spot...

place the next two balls softly against the one...

place the two outside balls in the next row...

roll the 9 ball up between them

roll the next two balls against that row...

place the last ball....

done correctly takes about 15-25 seconds...

The hard part is NOT throwing the balls into the rack too hard

slow down the placement and it goes without a problem..
 
I speed up the process by placing the magic rack where it belongs. I then place the balls in a regular rack where I can reposition them quickly. Then I roll the rack up over the magic rack and bingo, they sit right in the spots. This save a few seconds over placing them in a couple at a time.
 
I just got the 15 & 9 ball rack last week. I like it, takes me a little longer to rack, but I get good racks every time. I may rack faster with practice, however, I like good tight racks so the extra time is well worth it to me.

Whats the big rush anyway? :smile:

I think in match play with winner breaks and loser racks this is the great equalizer. Magic Rack puts the loser of the last game in the position they should be in.
 
You should probably just use a standard rack for 15 balls, but for short rack games with a hard break, the magic rack is certainly better and usually faster than a standard rack.

Second, you don't throw the balls in it like you do a wooden rack. You PLACE them in. Only takes me a few seconds. I place the one and the 9. Then grab a ball in each hand and just place them in place at the same time. Takes a couple of seconds. (less than 10)

I think the MR for full rack games is not as good as for 9 ball or 10 ball. First, it's way harder to make the game ball off a full rack, if you get a bad rack in 9 ball, or the table just does not allow the balls to sit right, crappy triangle, whatever, even if the 9 does not pop into the corner, it has a good chance of sitting in front of it just waiting for a quick combo.

I've never used the 8-ball rack, but for 9 and 10 ball, it's very quick once you set it up a dozen times or so.

Also, the time it will save you from checking the balls, re-racking, trying different side of the triangle, looking for a spot on the table where the head ball does not roll off, etc..., will probably equal out to using the MR, even for a full rack game. Although it's useless for anything aside from 8 ball and maybe rotation. Don't think anyone would use that thing for 1-pocket or straight pool.
 
I can rack w/ the Magic rack faster than fiddling with a nornal rack. You get used to it.
 
I got a deal I guess. $8.00 for three magic Racks. Maybe a little slower but nice to have a good tight rack first time every time!

I wanted a very light rack to just gather the balls into position with the Slug Doctor or Magic Rack, and I wanted something traditional looking so that novice guests will not have to go through a class to rack balls at my place. Now I am making them into works of art that function well and don't place any unnecessary strain on my back while bent over toward the rack area. The last thing you want during a session of any real length is to spend a lot of time reversing your lumbar curvature with a big heavy rack or rolling balls into place in a long process.....
 
Racking 8-ball with the Magic Rack is super easy.

You only have to look at the pattern of each row once to see what each one looks like.

Roll the top ball into place first to hold the rack.

Then you can roll the row of 2 balls up together,
The row of 3 together (with the 8 in the middle),
The row of 4 together
The row of 5 together, or left 3 then right 2.
THEN, and only THEN, do you press them together to make sure there are no gaps. There is no need to do this before all the balls are present as there might be slight shifting when each new row appears.

I timed my self and every rack is done around 15 seconds and 100% tight every time.
