Have any of you ever seen this guy play when he's in stroke? He is almost unstoppable. He has one of the most powerful strokes I've ever seen, his break is superb, his MASSE and KICKING abilities are out of this world. He is the most exciting player to watch. Right now he is scorching everyone at the IPT. I look for him to go far. He might even win it, if he keeps his head on his shoulders. He plays with a very professional attitude, and has this walk of confidence when he circles the table. Keep an eye on him!

I watched Rafael play today and he just had that eagle eyed stare. Robin Dodson and Tammy Jones and I commented on it. He is dead serious for the cash...intense focus and killer stroke!

I spent a lot of time with Rafael. He is definitely one of the greatest to pick up a cue BUT also someone who fights with inner demons.
His game is definitely inspirational - it's good to see that he is playing again and well it seems.

Mexico has produced some very good players, but looking at history a little, the Filapinos have the edge over Mexican players. But, once in awhile, a great Mexican player will rise up to the elite playing field, and take home the money. This could be Raphaels brightest day. He has the skills, knowledge, and ,seems, determination to carry him through.

Update:
Rafael Martinez is still undefeated at 10-0 after beating Neils 8-7.
He is the only one left who has not lost a match! He sure does look hungry!
Can he beat Manalo's record run from the KOTH? we shall see soon enough, I really though that record would stand for a while.

Often during the course of an Eight Ball match, a player is forced to shoot an almost impossible shot. No one in my estimation is a better shotmaker than Rafael.
I've seen him make circus shots for the cash on several occasions. When he gets down and is focused, he can make anything. His biggest problem has always been maintaining his self control. If something happens to touch him off, he is liable to totally lose it. I think alcohol played a big part in some of his worst outbreaks.

I concur. He taught me a way to back cut a ball frozen on the second diamond where you have to shoot the cueball over the kitchen line. That shot has won me some cash in Mexican Rotation.
I'd also put Rafael up against just about anyone for being able to make the cueball sit and spin the longest. He used to bet people that he make it spin longer with the cue than they could with their hands. LIke taking candy from babies.

Man he was on fire, but suddenly the wheels have come off, Putnam, Diks, and Matlock have taken the first 3 matches from him, he has lost 4 straight matches since yesterday.
I think the long hours and the intensity he was showing earlier is catching up to him.
He needs to beat Nevel and Lining to have a chance at getting through.
What an amazing run though, 12 consecutive match wins, certainly a strong showing. Hope he can make something happen.
