Randy Goldwater NYC Interview: Patron Saint of 14.1

I don't think you could be any more wrong Walter, if Tony can't play nine ball why was he selected to represent the US in the 03 and 04 Mosconi Cup's? This is an event where the top six American nine ball players are selected to compete by Matchroom Sport and has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the UPA.

Tony is a friend of mine and a class guy all the way. What exactly is your beef with him, might I ask?

Tony's been beating and been a top player for years. I've practiced straight pool with him once on a new cloth with very, very tight shimmed pockets in the mid 90's and he hit me with a 185.

For the record...

I have no burger with TR, personally. Spent a bit of time with him y los otro coquis at the Open.

I think that favoritism by the UPA has led to his inclusion in many events.

I think he is to be envied for putting forth the effort to do what he loves for a profession.

I'd probably keep it to myself if I could do it all over again, but I can't:confused:

Tony Robles is where he is today because of hard work, practice and being a shining
example of what a professional pool player should be.

Not to mention he is an excellent straight pool player and as another poster mentioned
he was a great straight pool player before the UPA ever came into existence.

If anything he elevated the UPA not the other way around. In fact being a member of the
UPA in my opinion has probably hurt Tony and other members more than helped them.

Tony is a fine person and he is where he is, because of who he is, period.

....and he's been where he is for quite some time. At least since 2006 or so.

You know I clicked on a link in another thread and just saw someone saying something about Tony sorry but I didn't like and didn't realize it was a really, really, old thread. LO L

But I stand by what I said anyway.

Because they were, for a time, a sponsor too. Like Seyberts, NYC has also chosen to distance himself from CW, and severed his financial relationship with the event. Amazing how time shows some players "true colors"...and you don't even have to dredge up 8 year old threads to see it. Tony has, on the other hand, been a true professional his entire life as a poolplayer, promoter, instructor, and ambassador for the sport.

But why the link for Seyberts ?

Digging up this old thread actually is rather timely, tho, as in another thread there were a few folks who were unaware of Randy and what he has done in, and for, the pool world.
