Good thing this wasn't my thread. I can not believe the mods here allow this kind of discussion in this particular forum. Get a life jerk-offs and once and for all stop screwing with peoples sales and in this case livelihoods. Unbelievable what has transpired here. Sad and sickening.

You see, people wonder how I got ulcers.

Everyone ought to know that I am making a list and checking it twice, I'm gonna find out who's naughty or nice :)

I hope it doesn't go un-noticed that I have been asking "please" alot for people to cool their jets.

RG, you are a class unto yourself.....Truely a good guy.

To everyone who tried to help reighn this in, also my thanks.

Did any of you wonder why a lot of cue makers may view this forum but they never participate and others have just left the forum all together.

very true.
and guess what........it hurts everyone.
the beginner cuemakers trying to learn, the old ones who would love to share knowledge, collectors and players who are looking to buy/sell/repair cues.
torching cuemakers here is bad buisness for all.
you ever think for a minute that the next big cuemaker could get his start here in AZ land? and you might pound on him cause you think his cue is overpriced by a few hundred bucks?
i hope some of you guys wise up.

Cue Value

mr varney,

I will buy your cue for your initial offering price of $1000.00

I will donate it to the Windy City Open, where it can be raffled off or whatever the promotors think would be nice. I would like the cue shipped directly to Eydie Romano.

Please PM your mailing address so I can send you out a check. I will alsoforward you eydie's info as well.

Happy holidays

rg

Hang on there.

The cue was $1,000.00. Next for sale at as low as $800.00. Now if it sells for $1,000.00, then the value of the cue was at a minimum $1,000.00.

I do not need differential equations to solve this one.

RG - You make this forum worth while.
Happy Holidays ! !

Cue pricing/value can be REAL hard to get right. I was lucky to buy and sell (?) SW and SEARING cues ahead of the curve. Several of the BRILLIANT cue pimps I played the game with thought I was nuts for what I paid and subsequentlly tried to sell cues made by "unknowns" for. Who knew and who knows now.....:)

Happy Holidays to you sir. You da Man. Wish I was going to the Windy City Open I would buy a ton of tickets in hopes of winning the cue.

Okay, that makes sense....don't drive tonight.

It's always cool when someone donates a cue for a charitable cause - hopefully someone who loves it and has lots of connections will win it.

Sorry for causing any ulcers I wasn't trying to attack you all though it may have seemed that way. Its just upsetting to see this happen time and time again. Again I apologize to you.....but only you :) I don't regret or take back what I said.

As far as the price change Varney made I'm sure he was just trying again like always to offer his work at a better than fair price due to the animals that post here. Good luck Mr. Varney.

You might consider addressing the specific posters you found offensive and then stating your opinion within the forum guidlines.

Randy G has to be one of the nicest most generous people that I know! What a wonderful surprise to hear that he had bought this exquisite cue for The Windy City Open. www.windycityopen.net

I can't tell you how very much that we appreciate what you have done! Randy, you are indeed a true friend.

Thank you so very much!

With love,

Eydie

Only thing I would recommend if I were a cuemaker and posted a cue for sale, I would only give the spec's on the cue, the price and answer questions pertaining to construction.

Well, this is essentially what Kevin did, until page 3 where he made this statement:

Varney Cues said:
sorry but I'm firm on this price. I could of easily priced it much higher. You'll understand when you hold it in your hand or hit a few balls with it.

IMO, this claim---that this is actually a deal, because the cue plays that good---opens up this thread for discussion. Roscoe and Pharoah both chimed in on that specific point, ie arguing that "hit" is not the end-all defining aspect for a cue's value, and everything else followed suite. Until this point in the thread, there was nothing but praise for Kevin's cue. None of us who thought the price was too high said a word.

I've never been one to harp on someone's sale item, so the label "price police" really doesn't apply. If you read the progression of posts carefully, I think it would be apparent that the vitriol was initiated by Kevin and his defenders, not by the people who voiced an opinion about that particular cue's value.

the guy makes cues. he thinks they hit good.

if you don't believe him, don't buy it.

you wanna talk about "hit", bring it to the open forum.

let the guy sell his cue in peace.

oh yeah, i forgot, "hit is subjective".........thanks for that update tom browkaw.........we get it.

Not to mention that after the forum starter (let alone a moderator) asks you to stop, you should. It doesn't matter if it's not breaking any stated rules, if the moderator tells you to do something you do it. This is not a democracy and you don't have the same rights on a forum owned and paid for by a person. You do what they say or face whatever they decide to do in return. I mod another forum with 600+ users and it takes 15 or so of us just to keep them all even remotely in check. I can't imagine what Mr. Wilson has to put up with...

You still don't get it. When you tried to sell your Petree with 2 pred shafts
which I though you had priced reasonable. The price police never showed up in your thread notice i'm using Mr. Webbs word. KV never showed up in your thread. I order the same exact cue from Mr. Petree 10 days ago. The reason I didn't buy from you is very simple attitude your attitude. I paid more than you were asking but it was a simple decision on my part. I'm sure if you check your rep points you recieved 0 for this whole outrageous ordeal. You were an are wrong if I were you I would apologize to KV for
highjacking his post not this post but all his posts. I hope you see the
light and wish you all the best. One more thing I do apologize for calling you an your buds Forum Lice that was dirty pool!

For the record, I want you and everyone else to know that I have spoken with the Varnster (Kevin Varney) outside of this thread. You may have noticed my absence pertaining to this discussion. Well, Kevin and I agreed that since we do not see eye to eye on this issue (or many others for that matter), perhaps we would both do best to leave one another alone. No apologies. No remorse. We would simply back away from one another.

For the record, despite the "popular" opinion here that I was acting as the "Price Patrol" or whatever other names were given to me, I was merely trying to defend someone else who was making a pretty unarguable statement: that a cue is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

Anyway, I digress. The Varnster and I have both taken the higher road. We have both agreed to leave one another well enough alone and perhaps this really is for the best.

For the record, I did receive positive rep from my posts. But hey, who cares, right? Anyway, I wish you the best as well sir. A very happy holiday season to all. A free bump for Varney. My love to all of you who hate me. You are wonderful, wonderful people. :D ;)

All I know is....

this thread and the cue value thread in the main forum would serve a better purpose in a "Cue Talk" section. Where an open discussion on cue prices wouldn't be a distraction from a cue sale. Just an idea.. :D

Agreed. This discussion belongs anywhere else but here.

The end result is that a willing buyer paid a willing seller. What anybody else thinks is irrelevant BS.

If your neighbor is trying to sell his house, do you ( not you personally) jump in the middle of the negotiations, uninvited, and give your view of the value of the property? I realize that is a dangerous question because some of the busybody's here will probably answer "yes."

You are correct. As as far as I can tell someone(RG) paid $1000 for the cue so the value to that person is established.
